John-T-53 Posted October 30, 2014 Report Posted October 30, 2014 (edited) Now that the truck is pretty much where I want it (for now), decided to take on another MOPAR project, fresh out of the desert in Cathedral City. Was looking for something big and ridiculous....What have I done??? 440! (Posting this here because this is the only forum I frequent.) EDIT: originally posted in the truck forum. Plymouthy Adams Posted October 30, 2014 Report Posted October 30, 2014 did you buy it by the pound.....? or by the sq. foot Quote

Merle Coggins Posted October 30, 2014 Report Posted October 30, 2014 AWESOME!! I love those early 70's Mopars Merle Quote
NiftyFifty Posted October 30, 2014 Report Posted October 30, 2014 I know your pain when it comes to parking space! But thankfully I found a place to ship off my wife's Miata so my Mopars can sleep in my shop. Quote
DJ194950 Posted October 30, 2014 Report Posted October 30, 2014 With the size of that trunk it could be easily made into a family comfortable truck. Add rear overload springs. Just remove the trunk lid, lower the back panel, install a truck bed. Done! DJ 1 Quote
pflaming Posted October 30, 2014 Report Posted October 30, 2014 I would hate to drive up along side that with one of the new 'midget' cars. Wow, take a freeway to have a place to let it run. Reminds me of the '71 +/- Fury III we had and my dads' thorough bred horse. At 80 mph it was merely coasting the car that is, the thorough bred could lope for miles. Quote
Don Coatney Posted October 30, 2014 Report Posted October 30, 2014 Least you could do is come up with a Mopar snowmobile or convert the car into a snowmobile hauler. 1 Quote
John-T-53 Posted October 30, 2014 Author Report Posted October 30, 2014 Now, that's a land yacht! Ahoy! Nothin' beats the "fuselage years" of Mopar!! At 19' long it's reportedly the second longest non-limo production car made. The longest was the '73 Imperial. And speaking of yachts, while cruisin' this vessel one can't seem to resist listening to "Yacht Rock" from the likes of Little River Band, Bertie Higgins, Christopher Cross, Seals and Crofts, Steely Dan, etc...LOL! And a very good looking yacht! Chrysler nailed it, especially with the coupe. I just couldn't resist. This is the year the gov't mandated 5 mph impact proof bumpers, so they had to go away from the wrap-around "ring type" bumpers from model years prior. fixed your post! Thank you, and by the acre. Have had lots of freeway time so far. Drove it 500 miles up I-5 last week. Most cars up here in the bay area are only as long as the quarter panel, if at that. 1 Quote
Desotodav Posted October 30, 2014 Report Posted October 30, 2014 Very nice John. So now you have the race truck and the family car? Quote
48Dodger Posted October 30, 2014 Report Posted October 30, 2014 LOL......I'm speechless!!!! 48D Quote
BigDaddyO Posted November 2, 2014 Report Posted November 2, 2014 What have I done??? 440! (Posting this here because this is the only forum I frequent.) You did the right thing. Nice ride. Enjoy it. My biggest problem with the 440 is keeping my foot out of it. I love to hear a 4 barrel open up. Quote
Geekay Posted November 2, 2014 Report Posted November 2, 2014 WOW. Magnificent. Love the white walls. You Yanks must have very BIG parking bays.......although a truck stop more appropriate for this beauty. In Australia in the 80's Leyland launched a family sedan here, a P76, its claim to fame was you could fit a 44 gallon drum in its boot (sorry, trunk). Quote
greg g Posted November 3, 2014 Report Posted November 3, 2014 Is that its zip code number on the tag???? Must create its own micro climate. Rain on the trunk sunny on the grill. Quote
pflaming Posted November 3, 2014 Report Posted November 3, 2014 More drive way space or smaller cars. lol You are a member of the 'Frito' society, "You can't have just one!" Quote
Dan Hiebert Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 I feel your "pain". Many years ago, my father-in-law gave us his '78 Chrysler New Yorker coupe. We had flown to NJ from south Texas to visit, and ended up driving that car back. What a beast, and probably the most comfortable road-trip I've ever taken. Had to park it in the street, wouldn't fit in the garage OR the driveway. My mom needed a car a couple years later, so we gave it to her. Two lines from "Love Shack" by the B52s always comes to mind; "I've got me a Chrysler, it's big as a whale.", and "I've got me a Chrysler, it seats about 20." 1 Quote
John-T-53 Posted November 5, 2014 Author Report Posted November 5, 2014 That's funny, that B-52's song always comes to mind now too when I'm behind the wheel. I gotta get the radio in so I can play it! official music video (featuring their Chrysler convertible) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SOryJvTAGs Anyone know what year it is? Mid 60's - slab-sided era... Now that I got the motor mounts and a couple steering linkage parts replaced, it's getting more enjoyable to drive. Next on the list: rebuild the carb, fix the turn signals, recore the radiator, trouble shoot the A/C compressor power wire, rebuild the front end, replace the ps steering box, new rad/heater hoses, and new brake lines and hoses. Also going to do a trans flush and service and put new oil in the rear end. I want to get it to a point where all the weak points are gone through for peace of mind :-) Quote
