Took my '41 out for a spin after 4 months of down time- and right away Chuck Berry came on the radio with one of my old favorite tunes.

I was grinning like an idiot!

What cruising song lights up your face?

Motoring down from Ventura on 101, 118 to the Golden State at dusk and seeing the city spread out in front of you with "L.A. Woman" blasting.. Sure beats the cold weather that blew in here the last few days..

Saw Chuck at least a dozen times.. Last time was at his 85th birthday gig at The Pageant in St. Louis. At his worst he was the best.

I usually like to listen to the sounds of the motor and the road. But sometimes I  throw in a cd of big band tunes.  It just seems appropriate for a '40s car.

Always liked Radar Love by Golden Ear Ring.

Stairway to Heaven is a good cruising song IF you have cruise control and the mental ability to engage it,or if there is no speed limit where you are driving.

Our car's radio hasn't worked for 20 years or so.  Speaker went Tango Uniform, haven't bothered to replace it, though I know it's a relatively easy fix.  El Paso, TX and Carlsbad, NM (actually out of Roswell) had good AM stations to listen to, but usually when we were parked somewhere.  I've discovered that I, too, enjoy just listening to the sound of the car and road as we're cruising along.  Modern cars don't blow my skirt up, though.  Too quiet.

Several years ago my son was playing in a blues band in St. Louis and the lead guitarist was from Wentzville. He said a lot of people out there didn't like Chuck because of the restaurant thing and he said he wouldn't play a Chuck Berry song. Then one night we were sitting in a club listening to them and what do you know, there's a Chuck Berry lick!  If you play rock and roll you play Chuck Berry. "Carol", "Nadine", "You Can't Catch Me", "Too Much Monkey Business", "School Days", "Wee Wee Hours", "Reeling and Rocking", every one a classic. It was one of the best experiences s in my life getting to see him at The Duck Room, the whole crowd shouting "Go, go, go Little Queenie!!" with Chuck ten feet away wailing on his 335..

Nobody was better than Chuck.

Once Del Shannon's "Runaway" came on during my first top-down drive of the season in my '57 New Yorker convert.  It was when "Crime Story" was on TV and Dennis Farina drove a 300 C drop top and "Runaway" was the show's theme song.

Felt like the planets were in alignment...
