pflaming Posted December 7, 2013 Report Posted December 7, 2013 Outside visors are expensive. All things are personal, I know, yet what is the consensus, do they enhance the beauty of the car. I'm referring specifically to the 1954 Plymouth suburban. . Quote
1950 Special Deluxe Posted December 7, 2013 Report Posted December 7, 2013 I like them. I have 1 to put on my 1950 2 door Special Deluxe. (Sometime) Quote
garbagestate 44 Posted December 7, 2013 Report Posted December 7, 2013 I picked one up about 4 years ago ( a Fulton ) which was a steal by today's standards. Now, it'll cost you your soul or your first born to get a good one. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 7, 2013 Report Posted December 7, 2013 I like the factory style.....those that attach discreetly to the gutter rail....the ugliest things in the world are those Fultons with them unsightly huge dog bones that they attach to the gutter then to the visor...one size does not always fit all if you looking for clean install... DJ194950 Posted December 7, 2013 Report Posted December 7, 2013 I like em, but boy the price hike on Ebvay since I last looked about a year ago! Was about $300 tops for most, even a NOS adjustable. Now +++++ price wise, but with some looking $40 and up. Make your own mounts?? Find a 3 piece as most all were then adjustable as to the width of the car and fit Most cars! Mounts? Modifiy to fit. And brands? Fulton seems to be The #1 brand ou there but there werre others, who really cares, as long as it has some patina!! Maybe contact the fellow with the old junkyard in the hills for a 3 piece visor with a patina complete for reasonable $$, the one you bought the Vert. from ? Perfect Patina! Keep at it Paul. Andydodge Posted December 7, 2013 Report Posted December 7, 2013 I got the Fulton from a guy here, had it shipped to Oz and I painted and installed it, I polished the alloy end brackets and made a stronger stainless steel centre bracket.........sold the car early this year......still miss it AND the visor........boo hoo............lol........andyd 1 Quote
Don Coatney Posted December 7, 2013 Report Posted December 7, 2013 PP, why dont you start a poll? Quote
Drifter99 Posted December 7, 2013 Report Posted December 7, 2013 I vote yes always spices up the look, looking for one myself. Quote
Barabbas Posted December 7, 2013 Report Posted December 7, 2013 I had one on my 52 Cranbrook and took it off. I like the look of the visor when it's parked but I don't like it when I'm driving. I felt a little claustrophobic when I was driving with the visor Quote
pflaming Posted December 7, 2013 Author Report Posted December 7, 2013 I was going to start a poll but didn't know how. Seems the attitude towards the visor is very positive. Quote

captden29 Posted December 7, 2013 Report Posted December 7, 2013 I like them. I have a convertible and they did make them for them, but so rare as to be impossible to find. I have seen them on Hudson convertibles of the early fifties. capt den Quote
RobertKB Posted December 7, 2013 Report Posted December 7, 2013 Never been a big fan of exterior visors but I don't like fender skirts or continental kits either. Quote
casper50 Posted December 7, 2013 Report Posted December 7, 2013 I just bought one for my coupe. Paid $300 from an ebay vender that hadn't listed this one yet. Quote
1940plymouth Posted December 7, 2013 Report Posted December 7, 2013 I like them as you can tell by both cars Quote
Ricky Luke Posted December 7, 2013 Report Posted December 7, 2013 I dont like them. Too much wind resistance. Rick Quote
Don Coatney Posted December 7, 2013 Report Posted December 7, 2013 I wish I had saved the picture Norms Coupe posted of his visor flopped over on to the top of his car by the wind as he entered a car show. I think that photo was posted about 2-3 forum upgrades ago. Back in the days when the forum refreshed after about 1000 postings. I am sure you long term forum members recall that photo. Quote
Dan Hiebert Posted December 7, 2013 Report Posted December 7, 2013 I mostly like them, but some cars just don't look right with one. In the southwest they keep the heat inside the car down, up here they'd keep the ice off the windshield (talk about ying and yang!). As with a lot of these things, back in they day they were probably championed more as practical accessories - very few adds touted how sharp the accessory looked. Personally, I don't think wind resistance is an issue since our cars have the aerodynamics of a chicken coop anyway. With modern styling, I still find I have to stop a car length or two from overhead traffic lights so I can see them, no different than our D24. The Fulton on ours came from a car body that was dumped in an arroyo to keep erosion down, the rancher let me have it. That was back in the early '90s, he probably wouldn't be so charitable now if he knew what they're going for. 1 Quote
Young Ed Posted December 7, 2013 Report Posted December 7, 2013 They do nothing for me and same with spotlights. My car had a spotlight that I promptly removed and sold. Quote
DCurrent Posted December 7, 2013 Report Posted December 7, 2013 I like them on certain cars. Some cars look better than others, but most 40s and 50s Plymouths look good with them in my opinion. The wind resistance was always a concern of mine though if they aren't mounted right. I had one on my 1972 Chevy Truck. It looked liked it belonged on it. Quote
pflaming Posted December 7, 2013 Author Report Posted December 7, 2013 ". . . dumped in an arroyo . . . " . I have never seen arroyo used in a sentence before, nice vocabulary lesson. There is a coastal town in the Pismo Beech towns called Arroyo Grande. Interesting, 'large ditch', one word to replace two words, and I learned that from someone from NEW YORK, simply amazing. Thanks Dan. I wonder what the word would be in German. Quote
Don Coatney Posted December 7, 2013 Report Posted December 7, 2013 I believe in German it means patina sucks Quote
JerseyHarold Posted December 7, 2013 Report Posted December 7, 2013 I have a '51 and '52 Plymouth and I wouldn't put a visor on either of them. I think it detracts from the look of the car. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted December 7, 2013 Report Posted December 7, 2013 Outside visors remind me of the mean old man who lived across the street from our house when I was little. He drove a black 40's GM car with a visor. So I guess I don't like them! Quote
oldodge41 Posted December 7, 2013 Report Posted December 7, 2013 I like them on some cars, not so much on others. I had one offered to me years ago an passed, probably should have at least tried it to see if I liked the look. Quote
