47ply Posted December 19, 2021 Report Posted December 19, 2021 I've found one place to get parts, but any suggestions? I'll need back brake parts, interior redone and a few pieces of glass. So I'm thinking just one right windshield and a few right side windows. Will it look weird with new glass and old glass? Should i try and find used glass? I'm on a budget so trying not to replace all glass but open to it. 47 Plymouth special deluxe Thank you! Quote
Dan Hiebert Posted December 19, 2021 Report Posted December 19, 2021 All the glass except the rear window on these cars is flat. Available on-line through various vendors, but any auto glass shop worth its salt can cut them for you. Not all that expensive. Easiest for them with an old one for the pattern. Appearance between old and new depends on how much abuse your original glass has taken, i.e., sand crazing, scratches, wiper streaks, delamination, etc. Personally, I did all the side windows at once and just got it done, that was 25 years ago so I don't remember the price, except that it didn't hurt to get them made (installed them myself). Parts in general - there is a "Links Directory" under the browser tab with a lot of sources. Start there. I haven't had bad luck with any of them I've used, but some folks herein have had issues with some of them. I redid all the brakes on our D24 with parts from Kanter Auto Products. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 19, 2021 Report Posted December 19, 2021 I have a feeling with the stated tight budget....it will probably always look a bit wierd.....? Quote
Sam Buchanan Posted December 19, 2021 Report Posted December 19, 2021 I bought a new side glass from this vendor: https://www.sandersreproglass.com/ Service was prompt, the glass fit perfectly, and much less expensive than a local shop. Quote
JerseyHarold Posted December 19, 2021 Report Posted December 19, 2021 RockAuto.com has parts listed for these cars as well. Usually at better prices than vintage Mopar vendors. Quote
Los_Control Posted December 19, 2021 Report Posted December 19, 2021 Might check autoglassics on ebay? I personally would not buy from them .... I simply wont order glass to be shipped by fedx or ups, when you can buy it local. Just using them for a price check. Complete glass for my truck they sell for $285 .... That really seems cheap and should fit most budgets? The expensive part is the rubber There are many options for that. Steele rubber seems to be one of the best rubber suppliers, (my personal opinion) But you pay top dollar for top quality. Amazon sells universal rubber by the foot, that may fit your budget better. Will wrinkle going around corners, will have to silicone joints & possible leaks. Again you get what you pay for. Then there are several options in-between. You just need to figure out what suits your budget there. I am guessing that your factory rubber windshield gasket is one piece and most likely needs replaced if it is original. Sooo, both sides of glass needs to come out to replace it. The glass is the cheap part, may as well replace both sides while there. Quote

Los_Control Posted December 19, 2021 Report Posted December 19, 2021 Just checking prices on my truck, I will have over $600 in rubber not including the side windows at all. They take different pieces & I imagine total package would add up to ~$1k just for rubber. While the glass cost $300. https://www.steelerubber.com/ So my idea, buy the good quality one piece windshield rubber for $220 and have a proper fit & no leaks. My rear glass, I may cheap out and just buy universal from amazon, make it work. Steele wants $200 for it also, probably less then $50 on Amazon. Side windows roll up and down and leave as is for now. Quote
Bryan Posted December 19, 2021 Report Posted December 19, 2021 You can't cheap out more than I did on my 92 Dakota.. split wire loom. 1 Quote
47ply Posted December 19, 2021 Author Report Posted December 19, 2021 Thank you, that helps. I didn't think about the rubber. Maybe the door piece I can figure out, but not sure if i can do the windshield my self Quote

I dont mind handing this one off to a professional Quote
desoto1939 Posted December 19, 2021 Report Posted December 19, 2021 I would suggest to replace with new glass. By the time you try to take out the old 50+ year glass it might break and the seal will eventually leak and then the glass will turn white plus the shipping to get the glass. Since most is flat glass just spend the money on new glass. Go back to the same glass company as you get more funds so they can use the same supplier. Maybe do two windows at a time then save some more funds and then two more. It will alget done and in the process you will see improvement inthe car. I prefer to hand the installation to professional because they do it all the time. Also instead of setting tape they will use the new urethane seal on certain windows which is easier to use and permits some final movement to positionthe glass properly, fine adjustment. If this is a drier car go this route Rich HArtung Desoto1939@aol.com Quote

harmony Posted December 21, 2021 Report Posted December 21, 2021 Andy Bernbaum finally reinvented their web site. Instead of looking like it was made in the 40's with a Kodak Brownie Camera, it now has clear and large colour pictures and more info with the descriptions of various items. As previously mentioned Steele Rubber is a really good source. They are not cheap, but they are the only company I know of that makes extruded windshield rubbers ( one piece) Even the split window rubbers, are one piece with the centre divider. They send monthly tips with " how to videos" if you want. They will put together and mail you a catalog specifically designed for your car with everything they carry for that car. I got a catalog for my car as well as my boat. As for the Mopar suppliers. Buyer beware! ( including the one I mentioned) It's a crap shoot that you get what you thought you ordered. I've learned that over the years with most suppliers. But sometimes it works out ok. While recently needing wheel/pinion seals. I was having difficulty getting consistent matches of part numbers being the dimensions ( inside & outside) that they were supposed to be each time I did a cross reference . So I wanted to make sure I was getting the correct size seals. I asked one supplier to verify the dimensions over the phone before I ordered them. The conversation didn't go very well. I was pleading my case to the owner of the company and before he hung up on me right in the middle of me talking, he said he didn't like my "untrusting" (using less flattering words) attitude and said he didn't want to sell me the parts. Then the phone went dead. Quote
Andydodge Posted December 21, 2021 Report Posted December 21, 2021 For what its worth which is probably not much with the current exchange rate of the Oz dollar to US dollar, I'll add my opinion........ .............I have been dealing with Andy Bernbaums for over 35 years and have always found them to be honest and pleasant to deal with especially considering that I am 10,000 miles away and they don't know me from a bar of soap, just a voice on the phone.........however, I have had very poor dealings with Steele Rubber, when ordering a cowl vent rubber to suit a 1941 Plymouth Coupe, the wrong item was sent in the correct plastic bag.....when I rang and questioned this I was told I didn't know what i was talking about, they could never have made a mistake and refused to consider any recourse for me..........I still have this mongrel piece of rubber here and will until I die go out of my way to badmouth these so called experts, masquerading as nice dealers........ah..........there, I feel much better now..........Steele Rubbers attitude cost me over $100.00 for the wrong part and postage.........I don't forgive nor do I forget...........but we all have our good & bad dealings..........lol............Andy Douglas Quote
TodFitch Posted December 21, 2021 Report Posted December 21, 2021 I have a vendor list at https://www.ply33.com/Parts/vendor Most of the regular maintenance parts (tune up, wheel bearings, hoses, etc.) I get at my local auto supply store. Their computer doesn’t go back far enough to find my car but with the parts cross reference I maintain at https://www.ply33.com/Parts/numeric I can generally find a new enough number that they can cross (and then I update my database to include any new changes). If I call them in the morning they will often have the parts in that afternoon for pickup. 2 1 Quote

I don't have any part numbers tho, is there a website I can get part numbers? Quote

Most provide a service of settling claims like this. If company won't do right your bank can and will reverse the charge. Quote
