Jeff, By default I am now a Pertronix guy and a 6 volt positive ground alternator guy.

Ha ha ha ha.

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Does that come with a membership card?

I guess if you Must, you can carry a spare distributor with points, condenser with you to feel safe.  ;)

The membership card for Pertronix users will be mailed after you register on the web site.  pertronix.com

Enjoy that sweet car!

Don;

I think you will like both. Well...... ....... as long as they were installed carefully.

I know there are those who have had issues with the Pertronix system but as you know I sure like mine. I have found that NGK BR6S plugs do particularly well with this set up.

As for the alternator.......well that is a real plus as far as I am concerned. I have a lot of accessories on my truck and it keeps up with plenty to spare. Never a worry.

The good in you has prevailed and you've ventured into the Dodge side of The Force...wait...that sounds more like "Dark side".  Kidding aside, that's a nice ride, which I am sure you will enjoy as much as your P15.  Now you have to get that Plymouth sold off, or you'll find yourself swapping a few parts to heat up that Dodge... ;)

Welcome to the Fluid Drive Club Don.  I can tell you that over the last month with Achilles Tendonitis in my left foot, the fluid drive is much appreciated as I don't have to clutch it much.

I just spent the last week tearing apart two M6 transmissions. The one in the '49 upshifts like a dream.  It will not downshift however unless I push in the clutch and unload the torque.  I put in a new input shaft, new clutch sleeve, and new blocker ring...we will see.

I tore apart a core just in case I needed a part.  I put it all back together and cleaned it up and it will go on the shelf.  This is the 5th M6 I have had apart and gone through.  I know more about them than I ever wanted to!

I am very happy about your new ride and I hope you enjoy it.

Just got a bit of history on my D-24

1948 Dodge History

  • Dr. Hugh Hodgson - 1948

  • Johnny Jones - 1977

  • Ahmand & Fatemeh Bahrmand - 1989

  • John Loper- 1991

  • Richard Loper – 1992

  • Don Gaines – 1994

This is my best guess as to the Dodge’s History:

Dr. Hodgson bought the car new.

Johnny Jones worked for Dr. Hodgson (yardman or such) and bought the car from Dr. Hodgson’s Estate.

Fathema Bahrmand was Johnny Jones’ daughter or some relative and inherited the car.

John Loper bought the car from her.

John Loper sold the car to Richard, his nephew.

Don Gaines bought the car from Richard Loper.
