  1. I bought a tool off E-Bay a few years ago that makes the job pretty easy.
  2. Well after some thought I guess I will jump in to add that my wife and I had dodged Covid since it started and got all the shots as soon as available. None the less my wife’s Boss(she works in a small three person business where everyone has their own room) texted her last Thursday that his wife had tested positive. Everyone went to work but stayed apart. On Friday he texted to let her know he was positive as well. Both of them triple vaxxed. On Friday night my wife started to feel crappy and took one of our two covid tests. Negative. So I went and had my second shingles vaccine Saturday. Started to feel sick Saturday night, severe headache, fever?, runny nose, etc. By Sunday morning my symptoms were subsiding and gone by Monday. My wife’s symptoms continue but diminished much like a regular cold. She did test positive for Covid on Sunday. So as far as I am concerned the shots were worth it. We both have enough wrong with us to make serious complications likely. Obviously all of you do what you like but I hope you all do as well as possible.
  3. On another forum I frequent(non automotive) since I am such a sarcastic SOB I have used something like this with the notation “Sarcasm Alert” posted near it. Seems to help clarify my intent. Sometimes…..
  4. On my 52 Cranbrook I bought a brand new heater valve for a 57 Chevy from a Chevy parts restoration company. Adjusted the hole in the firewall and put it right in. Like yours mine now is off at hot and hot at off but I will just have to route the cable from the other side and make it right. Some day…
  5. They look very good. Nice fit and a good stock appearance.
  6. Not to excuse dumbness but it might have been either all they had or all they could find when the last clutch was installed. Or maybe they just did not know there was more than one. And it sorta fit so…..
  7. Our Japanese brethren have way too much time on their hands.
  8. I am envious. I waved at the garage today. Glad you got out.
  9. When I saw the title I thought of the old wooden barrels. Like a Soapbox derby car or somesuch.
  10. .I have said for a long time that these Big Auctions are often just a bunch of rich folks buying stuff to impress their rich friends, The next Garden party one can show off what he picked up at the auction and only paid$.... The friends then compete to get their own" bargain" at more money to show off. And away it goes. I am sure some are car folks, Leno is an example of that. Others are I am sure are too. But most, no I think not. Just another competition, cars, boats, house, Islands, wives', , etc.
  11. I have looked at a couple of minutes here and there while waiting to pass out at night. I have always enjoyed fairy tales and the prices dummies pay for some of those cars fit right in. And every guy who watches that stuff and has a pile of rust in his back 40 sees his retirement fund in it.
  12. I have the radio out of my 52 Cranbrook and took advantage of the opening for the knobs to put the cable end there. If the radio ever goes back in I will have to rethink it.
  13. I have to say that although I am not a fan of restomods in general your truck is an exception to that rule. Really looks good. As an aside the only restoration shop I ever dealt with for anything(frame repair) actually did an excellent job. Not even a little cheap but work well done. I too have heard tales of horror especially from the folks at the AACA site.
  14. I found out about this site from Bill Ward who had his own forum in the early 2000’s. I have found the other boards I frequent by google searches. I don’t do Social Media. That’s my wife’s job.
  15. You do good work. I have done several one bbl’s and a couple of two barrels but the worst was a big Quadrajet. I got it done and the truck ran better but what a job.
  16. All I have to go on is the statements directly to me by an expert in carburetor repair who has been involved in working on them for several decades. So believe what you will. I stand by what I was told.
  17. I have an old table saw that my Dad left me that looks like it was cobbled together by Rube Goldberg on a bad day. I suspect my Dad found it in the trash somewhere on his mail route way back when and messed with it until he got it to work. I have used it several times and it worked well. Someone else’s trash…..
  18. Hope you get a good response. As I mentioned on Allpar a lot of smart folks are here including a few from Australia.
  19. According to John at The Carburetor Shop the Ball and Ball carbs used on many of our cars were never really a good design. What the were was cheap for the manufacturers to buy. And many have just plain worn out. I was on the second remanufactured one a couple of years ago and drivability had deteriorated severely. I decided to go with the Langdon progressive two barrel set up and have been really happy with the result. So there are other options available if an owner wants to do something different.
  20. Farm and Fleet 10-40 non synthetic.
  21. Well I certainly remember seeing cars and trucks back in the 60’s and 70’s doglegging down the road. Remember when the advice was to try to drive a used car you were looking at through a puddle to see if it tracked straight?
  22. Happy New Year from the Central time zone.
  23. Well you never know what NAPA might have as I have gotten a few items for my 52 from them. Try to find a store that has an old guy behind the counter as that improves the chance he might know what you are talking about.
  24. Although perhaps I am not exactly understanding your issue I do know that back in the late 60’s we thought it was cool to install 51/4 inch aircraft landing lights in place of the high beams in our four bulb systems. That necessitated cutting a new notch in the bucket to have the beams be in the correct location for road use.
