  1. In a somewhat related area, is there any way to tell for sure if the rear main in a 52 is a rope type or a rubber one? I have read that 52 was the year of change and also that it was rope seals till 53. I have a slight leaker too and have read about a sealing solution that will help rubber one but not rope ones.
  2. Rust Encapsalator did not work for me. Rust returned within six months in the garage Better results with POR 15 despite aggravation of prep work
  3. I like the shirt!
  4. My Illinois title uses the engine number. I think that they just copied the Wisconsin title that was previous
  5. MY 80 Volare has one twice that size. And it still cranks for a while to start on hot days after sitting a bit
  6. I live in Zion, about 12 miles from Park City. Which yard were they at?
  7. Always happy to see that a change in prognosis for the positive. Hope for the best for you
  8. While looking for a replacement unit for my 1952 it was suggested by The Plymouth Doctor that I contact John Wolf about having it rebuilt. Here is the number I received if you want to call him. Contact John at: 440-942-0083
  9. I have read a lot of the posts here about rear main seal leaks on flatheads and they seem to go from "Nope, never leaked a bit" to " Seems they all leak some". I have a 52 that has what I believe is the original engine that someone before me has at least refreshed if not rebuilt. It sat for about 10 years until it was repaired and got running this fall. However I now notice I believe to be a moderate real main seal leak after running it for a while. It has not gotten on the road yet, maybe later this year. My question is this- I can live with a a small amount of oil leakage, but am worried that the leak might cause some splashing in the bell housing that might get on my new clutch disk and ruin it. Is this a likely problem or is my nerviousness unfounded? Thanks for any opinions.( I am not planning to pull the engine apart unless absolutely necessary and I don't know if a rope type seal or rubber is what it has since there seems to be a lot of differences from year to year)
  10. I have a 1980 Volare with the one barrel 6 that usually gets about 20-22 on the highway at 60 or so. Gutless of course and I have a light foot. The Volare is somewhat heavier as well.(17,000 miles on it)
  11. I swear you have been hiding in my garage and watching me. Is this why my 52 Plymouth is just now after ten years of ownership getting ready to get on the road? And how long will it take me to sort out what I find is now wrong after that much time sitting. Arrrrggghhhh!!!!! Where is THAT remote?
  12. The apartment building I lived in from age 4 to 9 was torn down about 2 years ago. Not sad, but feels funny as I have 55 year old pics of me and my family there.
  13. Thanks from me too! The backward way drove me nuts.
  14. God, it's been years since I read any Gus and the Model Garage stories. I am going to look into this.. Thanks for bringing back this memory.
  15. My 52 shuddered on takeoff for years until I changed the clutch assembly and it stopped. I was always told that either a weak pressure plate or worn disk caused that. I have changed several clutches over the years for this and other problems and never had shudder returning soon
