Who Is Actually Driving Their Vintage Mopars?

Recommended Posts

I drive mine... I don't get it out as much as I'd like. Too many other commitments throughout the summer.

We are planning to drive it down to Chattanooga, TN in September for the WPC meet.

Sometimes when I'm out and about I run into other guys with P-H trucks. ;)

Depends on what kind of cruisin' you want to do...

That is certainly part of the plan for this summer! I plan on having everything squared away and the chassis DD ready by the end of the summer and want to display it at a local festival that I attend every year (usually its antique tractors - but I think a fully functional and awesome chassis will get some attention sitting beside one of my Deeres). Hopefully I can mate the body to the chassis before winter and finalize all those details to make it road ready by next spring.

'51 in to many pieces at this time. hope to have it complete in spring 2019. Until then I will have to settle for driving the 72 challenger.

You have to be cautious while driving around in your Ol’ Dodge. Sometimes Mark and FEF will sneak up behind you.

If that big red truck wasn't behind you, you'd be looking at a green 41 Desoto!

Working on rear brakes now; but I'm ahead of last year's schedule as far as a start time.  In 2017 I got the car going on May 8th after the engine rebuild.  Another week or two and I should have everything back together and I'll be driving it to work and beyond. :D  Hope to beat last year's mileage tally of 6,500 from May 8 - Dec 8.

Man, I'd sure like to be, but only having saturdays to complete my overhaul is taking FOREVER!!  I will say I drove it right up to the point I pulled the motor/trans, and I'll be driving it again every weekend (almost) as soon as it's done.  Hopefully I can join his group of "drivers" soon!!

Some really nice looking vehicles here...!

I drive my WC-12 almost every day except when it is raining. Those Military Non-Directional tires are not the best in the rain when trying to stop. Don't ask me how I know.  LOL.

That’s a good looking 31 knuckle. Great shape to.

My 39 P8 is still in progress. Been so for about 3 years now. When I got it - no brakes, exterior lights missing (buckets and all). Rod knocking, no reverse, gas tank, fuel lines and brake lines full of crap, wiring brittle and crumbly. Numerous rust and dents. Some other stuff to.

Pulled original 201 and sourced a 218. Rebuilt with a 230 crank. Swapped in an R6 OD and a custom driveshaft with U-joints. All new brakes, lines and NOS drums as well. Flushed and recoated gas tank replaced fuel lines with stainless. New RI wiring harness. Fixed a lot of dents and replaced some metal. New tires & rims. Sourced and purchased original front and rear light assemblies.

Im about done. It starts and drives but I don’t have tags yet.

Painting it now. Starting with the door jams then I’m going to spray two tone. Tops going to be light tan metallic and bottom a burnt orange metallic then clear coat both with a touch of maroon candy added. Put my chrome back on, find a side view mirror and I’ll be done - cept for the interior. But that’s another story.

Good luck to all the on-going builds. One step at a time.

Good luck to you! Those look like awful tight quarters to be dragging a air hose and spray gun around in. Do you have exhaust fans in the walls?

I drove mine about once a week before I tore it down for the V8 swap. I even drive it roughly 250 miles each way to Vegas once a year on the old 218. However, she should be back on the road within a month and I will probably drive her a bit more with the new engine/tranny.

I drive my '47 when the mood and opportunity coincide... It's all stock and suits me that way. I don't get to drive it as much as I like but that's life.. Looking to sell a couple of other projects if anyone's interested..

I have owner and driven my 1939 DeSoto model s-6 for 31 years. Yes it is a driver and not a trailer queen.  I have driven it fromPhiladlephia down into Virginia to White Post restoration shop when Billy Thompson was having his annual fall car show and open house.  My car has been AACA judged and has been presented with an HPOF bade, Historical Preservation of Original features.  This is as far as I am going with AACA judging. Like i stated this is a driver and I want to have fun with the car and not worry about getting mud or paint imperfections. Yes i do not want chips in the paint but that happens when you have a driver. So who is the dummy that is sitting on the right front fender and why. If you were born inthe 50's you will know the answer and the yellow duck.

One of the scariest men to have ever lived,Groucho Marx. His tv show in the 50's was hysterically funny, and none of it was planned. He would invite idiots up from the audience to talk with him,and within a couple of minutes have them so confused they didn't even know who there were, never mind what they were saying, and his favorite audience members seemed to be young double-breasted blondes. Nobody knew what the magic word was that would get that duck to drop so they could win 50 bucks,so people said anything and everything. I was just a little kid,and even back then I was wondering how he got half that stuff past the censors.

I had an actual fear of running into Groucho somewhere when I was a kid,and having him start talking to me. My plan was to scream like a woman and run.

Nope, it was originally a school district vehicle in California when new and then spent many years hauling logs in Oregon before I got it. It was pretty rough originally and it has taken alot of time to get where she is now. 2 years to complete the progress in the pic below. Add another year of going to shows and building a new V8 for it. I think its come a long ways in 3 years! Believe it or not, I got the paint to come back with Mothers Metal Polish and a wash cloth! It was pretty shiny under all the grime!

I drive my 48 coupe about 1000 mi/yr.  I lived in NC for 5 yrs and drove it year round. Now that I am back in Massachusetts it has been in the garage since December 1.  More snow coming tonight, so I guess it will stay in the garage a while longer.

I will eventually  be driving the Windsor if I can figure out how to get around the annoying garage requirement for antique car insurance but I don't plan to spend 20k on a garage to house a car thats worth 2500.

Driving my 67 D100, I resurrected two years ago from a 30 slumber. 95% Orig. , LA 318, 727 auto 60k miles. It's my favorite grocery getter with just the right amount of patina.

Current project is a 58 Power Wagon W100 315 Poly W/ 4 spd. @51k miles.

Next will be the 50 Pilothouse, I try to only work on one at a time but the 50 keeps  taunting me to poke around!

Hey, on my 50 pic above, zoom in on my tail light. The outer clear lens has a red Cross on it. Anyone have a reference for that? And no, there are no military data plates on the truck.
