Don Coatney Posted December 30, 2012 Report Posted December 30, 2012 If grown in the ground, Currants and Gooseberries can withstand temperatures as low as -25F or even -40F. But plants in grown in containers have less natural protection from the elements, and for that reason The Bountiful Container recommends keeping them in temperatures above 20F. Quote
Young Ed Posted December 30, 2012 Report Posted December 30, 2012 Don I wondered if anyone else would catch that! Red currant jelly melts into a nice sweet sauce for coctail weenies. Just throw a jars worth into the crockpot with the wennies and let it heat. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted December 30, 2012 Report Posted December 30, 2012 Mostly in the 20s and 30s here in southwest MO these days. Calling for possible snow New Years Eve. Would prefer it didn't do that as Max and I will be playing for a private party at some people's house which is a little way out in the country, All we can do is wait and see. Quote

Just give yourself some extra driving time Bob, front wheel drive vehicles do well on snow, as compared to RWD cars and trucks. Have a shovel along, and anything else you may think is necessary just in case. I drive on snow and when it is snowing very often every winter, a pain, but okay if you take it easy and drive defensively. Hey Superbowl 2011, it was like super cold, ice, snow, in Dallas that week. I just came in from outside, it is about 15-20 above, no wind a beautiful winter day,was puttering around for at least an hour. Because there is snow so can't drive 47, but should take the 55 Fargo to town for gas........Cheers Quote
knighthawk Posted December 31, 2012 Author Report Posted December 31, 2012 yeah ! I know, but, my favorite winter jacket is just a insulated fannel shirt.I have a bunch of the heavier stuff, like the big 'Packers" jackets, insulated coveralls, etc.... Also, only heat in my new shop is a small porpane heater...we had some pretty cold winters while we lived in Kansas, also the last few years.......... I guess some of us just never satisfied ! Quote
Mark D Posted December 31, 2012 Report Posted December 31, 2012 For the third year on the last weekend of the year, I fired up the sauna down at the lake today. It was balmy inside but a not so balmy 34f outside. Since the shore line still hasn't frozen I decided to cool off in the lake. The water was warmer than the air temp. Nothing feels better after a day spent shoveling snow. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 31, 2012 Report Posted December 31, 2012 it's late Sunday night...28 degrees here in Georgia...bit cool but as long as the wind is not blowing..tolerable.. Quote
plymouthcranbrook Posted December 31, 2012 Report Posted December 31, 2012 In Northeast Illinois its 32 degrees and cloudly(on the Lake) Quote
Dan Hiebert Posted December 31, 2012 Report Posted December 31, 2012 30 in Buffalo this AM with a nice, stout, westerly wind. Up to 33 today, then not over the mid-twenties the rest of the week. Occasional snow flurries all week, too. Like Greg G said, more snow this past week than all last winter. But its about time! Although we're still behind the curve. (When its supposed to be winter, be winter dagnabbit!) Quote
