  1. I got this hub cap, no one seems to know what it was off. any one here know ????thanks
  2. recently I did the brakes on a '55 T Bird, that after repairing/replacing the complete system, the car still had too ,much brake to the rear. The rear would lock up and throw the car sideways. After consulting with a senior member here on the forum, plus a guy I met that builds pro street race cars, and also a retired automotive teacher, It was decided to increase the size/diameter of the main line going to the rear axle. The original line was 3/16, I replaced it with 1/4''. ( was a easy 'bolt' in fit... did not have to change any fittings ) The increase in diameter, plus added resistance of more interior surface, was enough to fix it problem. Afterward , the car braked evenly at all 4 wheeels ! I'm told that some of the car manufactors increased the size ( like I did ) on some cars built soon after this ('55 ). I just thought this would be of intrest to some readers........thabnk for your time .
  3. yes, thanks, I'm doing that now.
  4. yes I changed them while back, got the from the NAPA store, I think, maybe from Advance Auto
  5. that;'s what I wqanted to know. Is it a common problem ? Have many of you installed proportioning valves ?
  6. '55 T - Bird....a friend of mine
  7. how do tou keep the rear brakes from locking up before the front, with a single circut brake system as used on these 50's cars ????
  8. Hope it stays 'up there '! Fred ! Gets under 50 and I get cold now !! We had 70 today, 34 tonite, tommorrow and next few days will be lows of23 to 29 , with high's45 to 52....here = Texas 'hill Country' ( in the center of the state
  9. I used to go to the one in Houlton Wisc , just across the river from Stillwater Minn. Sure brings back alot of memories , a few ''first times '' happpened there also ! I remember one time .........no, better not ..... After the movies quit , they had out door Church services there, all you had to do was tune your radio to a certain station , and listen to the services. The big screen was there for a long time after it closed, was a major landmark for giving directions....
  10. was down to 34 this morning, now 38 with the ground covered in SNOW! . Dosen't sound cold , but , sure feels cold !
  11. yeah ! I know, but, my favorite winter jacket is just a insulated fannel shirt.I have a bunch of the heavier stuff, like the big 'Packers" jackets, insulated coveralls, etc.... Also, only heat in my new shop is a small porpane heater...we had some pretty cold winters while we lived in Kansas, also the last few years.......... I guess some of us just never satisfied !
  12. seems like it's cold everywhere, except 'down under' ! I thought it suppoesed to be warmer even here in Texas ! only in the 40's today !
  13. Wonder Bread.... a few years ago my sister gave me a story of the Lone Ranger and how he got Silver. It's a small 'booklet' about 3 x 5 , about 10 'loose' pages clipped toghther. It came in a loaf of Wonder Bread !!!!!!
  14. about the same going on here.... gets cold ( for here), down to 18 a few days ago.... also went to Wisc for Thanksgiving, got a chance to're-live' driving in the snow and ice (and cold )
  15. I know we've done this before, but how cold is where you are ? Here Texas it is 33 dgrees, should be 55 this afternoon. A few places.... Minneapolis Mn 13 , N E north Dakota 9 , S E Kansas 21
  16. I'm thinking of something like an old farm tractor ( or car ) that some one finds setting in a feild. ( a friend of mine recently got one )
  17. car related...got a new 6 wheel creeper with an adjustable head rest ! really neat ! from 'Santa'
  18. what works best for a 'tough' job, like loosening a froze piston ?
  19. on other hand....plastic CAN be welded. I've welded plastic gas tanks also with success . the process is kinda like melting the plastic, together using the SAME type of plastic rod with a special tool like a soldering iron. it takes pratice, but can be done. On my own stuff is different than some one else's stuff , or with someone else's family car.
  20. I 've had garage floors done in Wisc and Kansas, in both places they 'cut' the expansion cracks. Once, I used the fiberglass stuff, was real fuzzy for a long time....but here in Texas, they poured it a little thicker, gravel base ( to level the ground ), plastic and re-bar, a 'harder mix, and no cuts ! They don't beleive in that here ! They just add a 12'' X 12'' beam, or strip of concrete across under the center of the floor, from left to right , and garrantee it will not not crack. Mine is a 30 x 30 , and its only been about 6 months now, but no cracks yet
  21. glad you guys responded ! Very intresting ! Its going to be in about 40 tonite, then slowly warming back. up. Being here in 'central Texas' it won't stay 'cool' very long ( I hope !).... this weekend I have to go to Wisc and Minn for a week ! Back to the snow and cold !.....
  22. temp was 36 degrees this morning and yesterday morning. not ready for this yet ! how cold was or is it at your place ?
  23. Fred, now would be a good time to tell the drillers,, some thing like, I don't have any money, and you won't get paid till you find some oil. ( or gas). ....I find it amazing, that 'they' can find water at all.... It's like, here you go....you pick where you want the well and we'll drill it there.....gald you got 'good' water ! J
  24. when we had a well in Wisc, we had to shock it every few years ot control the iron bacteria, which is different from regular iron
  25. our well here in Texas, is high in chloride, due to the limestone, and high in Iron. The well is 350 feet,a submersable pump pumps it to an above ground storage tank, then it's gets pumped from there with a pressure pump to the pressue tank,,then on the house or whatever. BUT, back at the above ground storage tank, the water, as it comes from the well, goes in to the top of the storage tank, thru a peice of PVC, which has lots of small holes drilled in it. The PVC pipe goes from the side of tank, where the water comes in ,, and goes across the top of tank towrd the other side. And then, when the water is 'sprayed' out thru these holes in the PVC, the Iron in the water contacts the air as it passes thru it, oxidizes the Iron, and it settles in the bottom of the tank, and of course, it's drawn a few inches above the floor.......at least that's what they tell me. My wife says it.s still pretty hard. BUT, if this system in working,,it must be REALLY hard without it !
