1940plymouth Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 How many members remember what they were doing 48 years ago today? Quote
Merle Coggins Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 Since I'm only 44 yrs old I'd have to say, No, I don't remember what happened 48 yrs ago today. What's the significance of this date in history, besides the fact that my Mother was born, 71 years ago? (Happy B-day Mom) Merle Quote
Young Ed Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 I don't remember either but a quick google search informed me. I'll let others see if they remember and not post what I found. Quote
Don Coatney Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 I was in a sophomore slump even though as a freshman I did not set the world on fire. Suddenly in the middle of class the intercom came on brodcasting the news and we went home early. For the next 3 days there was only one thing on all 3 channels on TV. That is my alibi and I am sticking to it. Quote
bamfordsgarage Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 I was in my grade 2 class in Edmonton. This photo was taken 47 years later, one year ago today. Quote
1940plymouth Posted November 22, 2011 Author Report Posted November 22, 2011 I too was a freshman that should have been a sophomore Quote
John Reddie Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 I was working for a wholesale yarn company and one of my tasks was to go for coffee for the employees. I heard the news on the radio that was playing in the coffee shop. Just like September 11, 2001, it is a day that everyone will recall with regret. John R Quote
Mark D Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 Sorry, but my genomic composition was about 462 days away from combination (according to my best estimate). I do however know that 11/22 is a date combination that tends to stick in peoples heads, (no pun intended). Quote
Merle Coggins Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 Ah, yes... Now I know what you are refering to. I recall my Mother telling us the tale of how she was touring Washington DC at the time, may have even been touring the White House at the time, when the news came through. And because it happened on her birthday it was even more memorible. Merle Quote
Don Coatney Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 I was in my grade 2 class in Edmonton. This photo was taken 47 years later, one year ago today. I will admit that I have been inside that building and looked out that very window. Quote
Dan Hiebert Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 Although I was living in Dallas at the time, I was a mere 2-years old and can only remember scooting across the wooden floors of our house on my forehead. That may explain a lot, now that I think of it. My parents have told me we took a drive to the site a couple days afterwards, but I don't remember that, although I do recall many trips there in later years, with relatives to show them "where", and on school field trips. Barabbas Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 I was in Study Hall--junior year --when the announcement came over the intercom. Like Don, and the rest of the nation, I sat in front of the TV for the next 3 days..numb, angry scared. For those of you not yet born in 1963, think 9/11-that's kind of how it felt Quote
Niel Hoback Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 I was riding home on the South Shore RR from Chicago where I had just been turned down for a job with the NYC RR. I was carrying a very small transistor radio and had it turned up quite loud. The entire car was silent while we all tried to listen to the radio. I was 20 years old. Sometimes it seems like yesterday and other times it feels like a century ago. Quote
49roadster Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 I was attending the last day of the Police academy. The rest of the day was canceled when the news hit. Quote
1941Rick Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 We were on a break at Howe Sound Secondary when the news came to us... Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 Was in the hospital watching the announcement on TV . A cop ran over me with his Harley! Quote
Reg Evans Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 I was sitting in a dentists chair leaned back with that suction tube sucking away while the Dentist and his assistant quickly went into another room to listen to the news. They left me there for quite a while alone in that chair until they finally remembered they had a patient politely waiting in room #2 with that tube still sucking away and the Novocaine wearing off. I was the last in the office to know. Quote
Young Ed Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 II was the last in the office to know. Is that when the trend started? Quote
JohnTeee Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 I have a memory of seeing the news on TV . . . but it also seems like I should have been in 1st grade . . . Cheers! John Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 6TH GRADE...I was cutting head off of matches to use as a propellant for a small rocket during science..the rocket was more of a rolling smoke bomb..but it did propel itself..so not a total loss.. Quote
123.gramps Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 I was a young E5 on my way to Ft Monmouth with a government vehicle and heard the news on the radio, I was on the Ft Dix SATCOM access road, just stopped for traffic on Rt 70. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 Was in the hospital watching the announcement on TV . A cop ran over me with his Harley! Whatcha do to deserve that? Quote
TodFitch Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 Fifth grade, making a lot of noise during recess... teacher poked head out of door and told us to be quite because of the news. I looked at her and said she was lying, nobody would do that. After recess they had a TV on in the classroom, and I learned someone would do that. Quote
Reg Evans Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 Is that when the trend started? Oh wise guy eh ? why I oughta........ Quote
pflaming Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 11 / 22: I never put those two number together. I always learn something new reading this forum. I was a teacher but home that day sick so did not have the TV on. Someone came over and told us. I was at that spot in Dallas some years ago. It is now inconceiveable that they would go that route. A good sharp shooter should have no problem in my opinion. Though I have never been a fan of that family, I still think there is more to the total affair. It is still tragic. Quote
