aero3113 Posted January 30, 2010 Report Posted January 30, 2010 What Magazines do you read for the car hobby? I like Ol School Rodz and Car Kulture DeLuxe even though they are mostly about rat rods and hot rods. Quote
mackster Posted January 30, 2010 Report Posted January 30, 2010 What Magazines do you read for the car hobby? I like Ol School Rodz and Car Kulture DeLuxe even though they are mostly about rat rods and hot rods. I like garage magazine and lately I have been getting a new local magazine for free called tached out. it is a nice new magazine for the local scene. it is refreshing to have something local....did I mention is free! RobertKB Posted January 30, 2010 Report Posted January 30, 2010 Hemmings Classic Car. Lots on the old cars and no hot or rat rods. Lately they have been stressing the importance of survivor cars and leaving them alone. Last issue was actually devoted to that. Quote
power_hungry Posted January 30, 2010 Report Posted January 30, 2010 I just subscribed to Hemmings Classic Car. I bought a couple off the rack recently for $5 a pop. Inside the magazine they have subscription cards for $12 a year. Going online, a subscription is $18. Quote
55 Fargo Posted January 30, 2010 Report Posted January 30, 2010 Hotrod Deluxe, Oldskoolrodz,Hemmings Classic cars, have been my staple. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 30, 2010 Report Posted January 30, 2010 None..for to myself, they are not real..I can only read so many stories about barn finds and pimple faced 14 year old kids restoring a car. Further like the shows on TV..they evolve around the check book, I sent the engine to so and so, the tranny went to blah blah and the interior was done by gopity goop..and so on, you get the general picture..you can only look at so many triple nickels, camaros and mustangs before you barf..street rod glass machines..a buy and bolt (plug and play) if you will..very rarely does anything new come along and when it does it is mass marketed in billet..kinda why I am here..this era/make of car is basically pure virgin territory..not followed by the industry..challenges and mods are based on the application per the individual..more hands on than hand written...even here at times we get the money in your face approach..at least this is in limit doses... Niel Hoback Posted January 31, 2010 Report Posted January 31, 2010 Hemmings Classic Car, and Cars and Parts magazines. Quote
captden29 Posted January 31, 2010 Report Posted January 31, 2010 i like to read about the hobby i am involved in, even if it does not all apply directly to what i do. i have often found sources for things i may never have known about. i read hemmings, hemmings classic car, and old cars weekly. i used to get others, but you can only read so many and pay for so many. i trade my old ones to freinds for ones i do not subscribe to. capt den Quote
steveplym Posted January 31, 2010 Report Posted January 31, 2010 My favorite magazine right now is the Goodguys Gazette. It comes with a Goodguys membership which is about the same cost of a magazine subscription, but there are so many pictures in there I enjoy it much more than a magazine where there is so much advertisement and stories. Some of them are interesting, but I like looking at lots of cars. Quote
JohnS48plm Posted January 31, 2010 Report Posted January 31, 2010 I like to read Hemmings Muscle cars, Classic Auto Restorer, Plymouth Bulletin, and the WPC news. I used to read Street Rodder but I got tired of the big buck Chevys and Fords and all of the projects using their advertisers parts. I have 300 issues of Street Rodder in boxes I advertised them but no responses. JohnS Quote
Greenbomb Posted January 31, 2010 Report Posted January 31, 2010 Ditto Hemmings "Classic Car". I get "Hot Rod", too, but that usually takes about 20 minutes to read. It's good, but I just can't relate to the money and the HP. Also not a drag racer. I'm into low and slow. And cheap! Quote
LAKOTA169 Posted January 31, 2010 Report Posted January 31, 2010 Old Skool, Plymouth Bulletin, and a local Cruis'news. Quote
Andydodge Posted January 31, 2010 Report Posted January 31, 2010 I have been getting car mags since the late 60's.......Rod & Custom, occaisonal Hot Rod, Hot Rod Deluxe, used to get Rod Action, StreetRodder, Traditional Rod & Kulture, Hop Up, Australian Street Rodding, Aust Restored Cars, Aust Cruizin, Australian Classic Wings.........like car mags with stockers, rods, customs & muscle cars.......don't like bimbo, tiki,Kulture ,tattoo and other Crap Rod magazines.......like chrome, shiney paint, mags, whitewalls, chrome, more chrome.........did I mention chrome?...........oh.....and any magazine that has chrome and shiney paint.........andyd Quote
jd52cranbrook Posted January 31, 2010 Report Posted January 31, 2010 Hemmings Classic Car, great old car stuff. Rodders Journal, picture spreads are unmatched IMO Quote
ptwothree Posted January 31, 2010 Report Posted January 31, 2010 Hemmings Classic Cars for me.............Used to be big on hot rod / rod & custom etc. They used to have great tech articles, but, somewhere in the late 60's sold out to their advertisers and BIG buck projects. Well they lost me. I've kept a lot of the mags from the 50's and 60's and now I know why. They did a lot of hop up stuff regarding flatties and such. When that is combined with some of today's tech......... Information is almost everything when it comes to dealing with old iron. And it's nice to see unmolested survivors presented as they are in mags like Hemmings. I'm sure there are others. just my 2 sense..... Quote
1940plymouth Posted January 31, 2010 Report Posted January 31, 2010 I subscribe to "Hemmings Classic Car, "Plymouth Bulletin", "Vintage Truck" and just resubscribed to "Cars and Parts" I enjoy "Classic Car" the best, and especially the "driveable dream" articles. Bob Quote
Don Coatney Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 A few years back there was a picture of my engine in Old Skool Rodz magazine. The editor of that magazine lives close to me and we bump into one another at local shows. Quote
greg g Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 Lately none. Used to subscribe to Car ad driver. Read Hot Rod and Rod and Custom in high school. Quote
Phil Martin Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 Hemmings classic cars, cars and parts, old cars weekly, and my favorite, vintage trucks. Quote
TodFitch Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 A two week old thread that I hadn't noticed yet. Must be getting senile... Other than magazines that are associated with clubs, I only subscribe to Skinned Knuckles. Quote
P-12 Tommy Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 None. I'm with Tim on this one. Tom Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 Hemmings Classic Car and Cars & Parts (which have taken since the 1970s). At one time got Old Cars Weekly and Hemmings Motor News as well. Too much to keep up with - so now just the two. Have a few of those small hot rod mags from the 50s, like those I used to read down at the drug store after school. Were some neat custom cars back then. Quote
james curl Posted February 27, 2010 Report Posted February 27, 2010 I like Grass Roots Motorsports and their $2000 and now $2010 challenge, some real inventive cars built for that cost, I think Tim Adams would like this magazine, it is based in Florida and is about low cost drivers and race cars. Problem is most are small foreign cars. They built a Mazda Rotary powered Triumph Spitfire and a Four Cylinder motorcycle engined Berkley as project cars. They also built a Locost super seven using a wrecked Miata for their donor. Quote
