Sniper Posted December 7 Report Posted December 7 My fellow flatty aficionados. I may need an intervention, lol. I've been looking at Jaguars lately. Took an xjl Super Sport for an extended test drive. I've fallen in love, 510 horsepower will do that to me. However since my 19-year-old son is on my insurance policy my insurance rate would be $500 a month. Which probably exceeds my grasp lol. So now I'm looking at a Jaguar XF with only, and I say again only, 470 horsepower. But the insurance rates are substantially less. Somebody want to give me a swift kick in the butt to get my priorities straight? 1 Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 7 Report Posted December 7 mail yourself 6 envelopes. Within each envelope place an invoice for 500.00 having it front of you in this manner often helps with reality.....but hey, I can grasp the passion however.....why I have also been a bit slow embracing putting the Jensen Interceptor on the road. Ulu Posted December 7 Report Posted December 7 Being car-poor due to high cost of operation and ownership is a common problem. I have a touch, but I never let myself quite slip over into crazytown on things like high hp fuel, blowermotors and rumpy camshafts. But there is this one turbomotor I’ve been hoarding for decades…. It’s not a HO engine though. It’s a torque engine, turbo-normalized for mountain driving. If I can ever finish my current job, it will turbo once more! Quote
DonaldSmith Posted December 7 Report Posted December 7 Maybe your yearnings for a Jaguar will pass if you record and play back a loop of their their current Jaguar ad, where strange persons dance around in weird costumes, without any car being shown. Budweiser had an ad some time ago which helped many people quit drinking Bud Light . 1 Quote

Except make the invoices for $5000 each and be sure your insurance has a good towing package. Oh, and get a couple of big drip pans for your garage floor. Quote
Ivan_B Posted December 7 Report Posted December 7 Just open up Craigslist or FB Marketplace, and look for all kinds of other things you could buy with that money. And then, do not buy anything. That usually helps me to stay calm 🤭 Quote

Los_Control Posted December 8 Report Posted December 8 That commercial just came out a couple weeks ago .... several of us were laughing at it because a car company is advertising some pretty weird people ... and no car in the commercial .... Something strange going on there. A few days ago there was a leak of their concept cars .... scattered feelings about those. This was released after negative feedback on the commercial. Jaguar has simply been demanding to be noticed the past few weeks. https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2024/11/jaguar-boss-doubles-down-horrible-woke-rebrand-blames/ Quote
cheesy Posted December 8 Report Posted December 8 I can only suggest that you lie down and wait until the feeling passes. Quote
Sniper Posted December 8 Author Report Posted December 8 Well I guess I could say many things here but 470 horsepower speaks for itself LOL Quote
DJ194950 Posted December 8 Report Posted December 8 Check the repair rates over the years on the Jaguars! Way up the lists of cars needed the most repairs!! 😝 Maybe if you can do your own repairs after the factory warranted repairs ends. Make sure to see what is insured. A friend bought a new Range rover that was totaled after the windscreen leaked and destroyed the under dash electronics! Cost of parts? Buy the best extended repair insurance you can get. Hope I helped! 😈 DJ Quote

Dan Hiebert Posted December 8 Report Posted December 8 This won't help - I'd recommend a redirection as opposed to an interdiction - stick with the Beemers. They've got stuff with HP, too. Our son was a service manager at an exotic car dealership in MI for a while, and although I've never been in the market, his unsolicited advice, prompted by sheer frustration, has been to stay away from British automobiles. Ulu Posted December 8 Report Posted December 8 Those “new” Jaguars are nothing more than sketchy computer-made styling studies. Not even close to the equipment requirements of a real car. Even an EV car. The interior study is laughable. Like a hair salon designer did it. This is all a big headfake. 1 Quote

Unless you are planning to race it, seems completely useless... Don't be one of those older dudes rapidly accelerating from a stop light, in a red car, that's just silly 😅 BTW, do you have a motorcycle? Ever considered getting one? The HP/weight ratio is great on those. Could be a cheaper alternative if you want to feel the power. Edited December 8 by Ivan_B Quote

I have owned three bikes oer the years. They are compared to the Jag I drove and the one I will probably buy. 79 GS550 49hp, 430lbs 8.77lbs per hp 72 RD250 30hp, 335lbs 11.16lbs per hp 05 Vulcan 56hp, 540 lbs 9.64 lbs/hp 2011 XJL Supersport 4323lbs, 510hp 8.47 lbs/hp 2010 XF Supercharged 4306lbs, 470hp 9.16 lbs/hp The XJL, which is the one I drove, has a better power to weight ratio than any of the bikes I owned. The XF, which is the one I am looking to buy, beats two of the three. Good thing I am not 20 and invulnerable. Quote
Ivan_B Posted December 8 Report Posted December 8 My 82 Virago 920 65hp, 523lbs, comes out at 8.04lbs per hp 🤭 I miss that bike... So, you've decided to give in and get a midlife crisis car? Quote
Los_Control Posted December 8 Report Posted December 8 RD250 brings back memories .... I had one for awhile ... it was fun. Was painted white with flames on the tank and drag bars with a custom saddle .... kinda setup for racing. IIRC, bigger piston and carb. A friend of mine that I rode with kept laughing at the baby bike and was only a kids mini bike .... blah blah blah. I told him to take it for a spin ... Dumb arse started from the middle of the block and just nailed it ... He hit the end of the street so fast he could not stop. He only got it into 2nd gear and the little 2 stroke engine hit its power band and started to fly. He laid it down and slid it across a busy 4 lane road in Las Vegas .... amazing he never got ran over and cars stopped in time. The guy felt like such a idiot pushing it back home and all he could say ... OMG I never thought .... He never laughed at it again. Do not shoot the messenger, I was just showing what Jaguar has been up to the last few weeks. I just find it funny and say why now? A lot of companies have gone down the same road, Harley Davison, Tractor supply, Walmart .... and others. People started complaining and they backed off and decided to sell products not opinions. .... Sooo, while all of this is dying down and in the past, Jaguar jumps in feet first and starts it up again. As soon as they get the expected backlash ... they double down and blame it on the consumers .... A crazy way to sell a product. Either way it is just a phase they are going through in this time period ... it will pass, do what you want. Quote

The Jag is to get me a midlife crisis girlfriend, lol. 58 minutes ago, Los_Control said: He only got it into 2nd gear and the little 2 stroke engine hit its power band and started to fly. Yeah, a lot of guys with "real" bikes learned the wrath of the RD. It was fun and I was half the man I am today (weight wise). 59 minutes ago, Los_Control said: Do not shoot the messenger, I was just showing what Jaguar has been up to the last few weeks. cheesy Posted December 9 Report Posted December 9 On interventions. My family was going to have an intervention for me 15 years ago. I was 54 years old and looking at a 1991 Corvette, black, 350, 5 speed. 40k miles on it. The asking price was $10K. To me, it was a smoking deal. The family thought I was going to cruise for chicks. I was the only male in the household, so why would I put myself through more torture. My thought was a nice looking black 'vette for ten grand. And I figured red or yellow was for chick cruising. Turned out that no intervention was needed as I had a hard time getting into it and an even harder time getting out. I'm not a big guy but I'm as flexible as two year old concrete. I bought a black 05 Wrangler instead for more money and I still have it. I can't speak for the current Jags as they do absolutely nothing for me. But I have experience with British cars and it hasn't been great. Quote
Ulu Posted December 9 Report Posted December 9 Now that they are made by an Indian company, things might improve. They managed to hit the moon, and it’s not a real big target. Quote
