Dan Hiebert Posted July 3, 2023 Report Posted July 3, 2023 And your car is black, too! (Nice ride, I really like the bidness coupes.) When we lived in the southwest, I was always a bit impressed with how our D24 was always cooler than expected when it was in the 90's and 100's with clear skies. Couldn't touch the stainless trim, (i.e., hang my arm out the window), but the interior was surprisingly "cool". Didn't even get much above 70 here yesterday. Makes for rather pleasant driving, but also gives me some motivation to actually get our heater working. Quote
greg g Posted July 3, 2023 Report Posted July 3, 2023 We were traveling some where in 90 degree Temps. Car was running at 170, we were running what felt hotter. We had some towels in the trunk. I wet one and partially wrung it out. Hung it with spring clamps to the bottom of the dash. With the Cowl vent wide open, we had a mini swamp cooler. And it did make the drive much more tolerable. Bob Riding Posted July 3, 2023 Report Posted July 3, 2023 Took the wagon for a 10 mile run yesterday -out in the country. It was 111 degrees here in sunny California. I thought it would be a good test of the Stant 4lb radiator cap I just installed. No over-heating. Hard to tell the exact temp from the 1940 dash gauge, but my infared gun showed about 200 degrees at the top of the radiator and 155 near the bottom. The real test might be idling in town. The plastic Fram G2 fuel filter wasn't percolating the gas. I definitely will be installing a metal filter elsewhere after reading this thread! Just for yucks, I tried to find out what at what temp a quality plastic fuel filter would begin to fail (melt), but I guess they don't want you to know. I'll save my supply of Fram G2s for the lawn mower! 1 Quote
Marcel Backs Posted July 3, 2023 Report Posted July 3, 2023 That is a bubble that I would like to "live in"! What a beauty of a car. At 100 plus degrees no AC needed because the smile on your face keeps you cool! M 2 1 Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 3, 2023 Report Posted July 3, 2023 you do realize that the top cap to the right and the tube to drain says this is not a pressurized system....its still going puke if needed...as many state, the secret to the early non pressurized cars is finding the sweet spot where expansion happens without burping.... Wow- I didn't even think that through- of course. Luckily I had the cap in my parts stash. So is there any fix, or leave it alone. I don't remember it ever burping. Quote

49D-24BusCpe Posted July 3, 2023 Author Report Posted July 3, 2023 I'm always amazed at how sharp you guys are in spotting details. If you want me to elaborate on the why and how some things were done, I can! Fatso's powerplant is a '90 DeVal, which is an enhanced Chrysler Industrial IND-32. Yes, it is a 25" long-block! 5 Quote

Yep, it doesn't matter what cap you use, even a 30lb cap wouldn't make any difference since the system will never develop pressure with the open vent. A cork would work just as well. ? Below is where I keep the coolant level in my P15, you can also see the non-vented cap. The car runs no hotter than 185 in our horrid summers and I've never seen it burp. Maybe I'm lucky to have a radiator that seems to be healthy even though the top cap really needs paint or polish (!). 1 1 Quote
greg g Posted July 3, 2023 Report Posted July 3, 2023 Piece of Saran Wtap and a rubber band would work also. At or just above the bottom of the tank has worked for me. Quote

49D-24BusCpe Posted July 23, 2023 Author Report Posted July 23, 2023 I got a call on Friday from my buddy Ken, to come over and check out some enhancements he had made to his Tiki Bar. Now mind you, this was the hottest day of the year so far in Kingman! What the heck, so I drove "Fatso" over to Ken's. Absolutely no problems, and it was 108 in the shade there. Quote
49D-24BusCpe Posted July 23, 2023 Author Report Posted July 23, 2023 Oh, Ken's Tiki Bar upgrades were very kool, although we did go inside after just one! Quote
Rodney_Hamon Posted July 23, 2023 Report Posted July 23, 2023 Wow. Comes in 3’s. Nice power plant, tiki bar and there has to be a Hawaiian shirt. Awesomeness and agreed to Kingman is a hot place Quote
Los_Control Posted July 23, 2023 Report Posted July 23, 2023 Looks cool ......kinda. I love the idea. Some people should just keep their opinions to themselves ...... Wish I was one of them Your Buddy has a great idea, the roof structure is too small needs to be replaced with some beefy timbers. Then set a Swamp cooler in the middle of the roof with duct work circling the bar with individual ducts over the bar stools. You would be outside, in the shade, with cooling .... some scenery .... Even if need to make it ...... Probably have to put on a full time bartender just for that spot in the afternoons. Quote

Probably have to pull a permit to do all that, then the tax assessor would get involved and the state alcohol commission would wonder what you were doing, etc and so forth. lol Quote
49D-24BusCpe Posted July 23, 2023 Author Report Posted July 23, 2023 YEAH! With a typical 5 mph breeze, 5% humidity, and 15-20 degree nightly temperature swing, and a 'misting' system; It's worked out beautifully!!!! Quote

Wish I was one of them I'm just assuming you are the bar owner .... with your reply. Your job is to create a relaxing atmosphere for people to want to come to. ..... WTF is that fence hiding whatever it is? 2"x6" lumber barely nailed together with a sheet of roofing material not even cut to fit hanging over the side. ....... Not very attractive. You have the same OSB plywood on the roof. ..... Within a short period of time it will turn gray, start to chip away ..... the misters will only shorten the time before the roof looks like total garbage. I suspect you spent $2k-$3k on material.... got cheap labor from bar patrons looking for work? As a carpenter I have built bars, repaired bars, I enjoyed the benefits of working at a bar .... Last bar I built was a long L shaped bar to replace the 50 year old self destructing bar in play. I walked in a month later to look at it ..... There were three girls dancing on the bar to hold their very own titties contest. I figured all warranties were done, drank my drink & went home. I'm just saying you need to be careful of lawsuits ..... will that bar hold a few girls dancing on it? ..... How do you know you can avoid it some day when you are not there? I just feel like their was $3k spent foolishly, in a few 3 years needs replaced ..... If $5k spent you would have something to build on. Quote
Los_Control Posted July 23, 2023 Report Posted July 23, 2023 Go big or sit on the porch! The idea is great, the execution sucks. Quote
49D-24BusCpe Posted July 24, 2023 Author Report Posted July 24, 2023 1) Ken's "Tiki Bar" was built behind HIS HOUSE, by HIM! 2) HE SPENT approximately $200, as the majority of the materials were given to him by friends. 3) The fence separates our golfing community from the BLM land in the background. 4) OPINIONS and INCORRECT ASSUMPTIONS often don't speak well about their source. By the way, ARE YOU OKAY?????? Quote

I have to apologize ..... The way I read it is .... You went to your friends commercial bar. I totally thought this was a commercial establishment where you had paying customers buying refreshments. 32 minutes ago, 49D-24BusCpe said: 1) Ken's "Tiki Bar" was built behind HIS HOUSE, by HIM! Hey whatever you do in your back yard is cool with me .....I really thought you were talking about a commercial bar & I was being critical of the choices. Since it is your own backyard, carry on & have a good time. Again I apologize for my silly misleading . Quote
