I looked at their online catalog today and there were none. However, the stuff available in it only made me want a power wagon. Lol. Graingers does have a torsion spring so I need to order one to play with. Life got in the way recently so that’s interrupted things. Thanks for that suggestion though. It was great eye candy.

Indeed a credit card probably is fine nowadays. Los..a nice offer. That’s nice of ya. We set the mig to its lowest setting and put a bigger bead on it to spread the strength of the weld out. I’ll install it after this cold front moves through. Hopefully it’ll hold. If not, we’ll ask a fabricator friend to use his tig and see what happens.

My ‘36 dodge truck has a spring hooked under the floor bd on the throttle linkage rod that connects the gas pedal to the carb. Another straight but weaker spring helps for the return action. All these years I wondered why I had to take the edge of my shoe and gently go under the edge of the gas pedal to return it back to position. It was even easier when there was no gas pedal grommet. Tight fit now. The spring was broken. I tried to have it welded but it snaps immediately. I tried to fabricate my own spring. Not good. I just recently saw another dodge owner on another forum needing the same thing and he was referred to ford model T forum parts. Then crickets. It mentioned that a T carb choke spring looked similar. It did. I contacted Lang’s Old Car Parts and they were super nice and sent me a replacement spring. I got it 3 days ago and laughed...well I was bummed but I laughed. My spring has an almost 1/2” inner dia. while the T spring is 1/4”. Alas.. I am looking at Andy B’s catalog and I see a starter pedal lever return spring. Am I wasting my time or should I chance it again. It’s kinda similar but not. Bending required. Anybody with a thought on this ? When my garage finally got up to 66 lately I’m coming out of hibernation. Thanks

70’s in Texas already? Great goal to finish the truck and go to the lumber yard Los. I wanted to finish my truck enough to haul trash to the transfer station. Upper 40’s in the garage today so I put the battery tender back on the truck. No wind finally so that allowed me to do roof repair on the mother-in-law cottage and clean the barbecue grill. Cleaning a grill in January seems odd but it was a decent day. My daughter just graduated from college and her buddies are flying in to spend a week with her and stay at the cottage and discover New Mexico. They all fly back east to home a week later. I might find time to mopar -tinker then.

It warmed up a bit but the wind was there also. After tasks around the place I discovered the decent temp in the garage and said to myself I need to start up engines. So... I started the bobcat, the mustang, the bmw, and then finally the dodge truck. Poor lonely P-23 outside by the bobcat has to wait. If it’s windy I won’t lift the hood. Don’t trust it. So I was rewarded with everything starting. I can tell everything needs driving. The daily drivers didn’t need starting. They get driven. The truck was talking to me. Gas pedal linkage rod binds up in the newly installed floor grommet. The choke and throttle cables are sticky. The carb just needed extra choke to run smoother in the beginning and I knew that wasn’t right. I know that truck when it’s gummy or dirty or not adjusted right or it’s yelling at me it needs to finally be driven. So many little things still need to be done to the truck. When everything was shut down and I walked past the plymie I opened the back door just to give it attention. I realized I am spread out too thin or maybe this is just mid-winter syndrome. I don’t get depressed in winter..rather I like it. I just have a lot on my plate. I just finished going through phase 1 of a house remodel with having a new floor installed and this started before thanksgiving. That opened the can of worms when you empty the house out of its furniture. You see walls that need repair and paint. You see wood finish on the furniture that needs restoration and/or you see when the furniture is worn out. Phase 2 starts in February. Bathroom remodel. Both of them because the plumbing has worn out. This house is well over 100 years old and was a dump when we bought it 33 years ago. Then in May or June I head back to the Milwaukee area to work/repair the in-laws place. So...where do I find the time for auto fun. I wonder. Maybe when football is over. Maybe after the remodel stuff is done. I turn 69 in June. A beer sounds good right now as I watch the sunset and eat pretzels. Life is good as everything started today and I made the dump run yesterday and the snow is melting and all the cans are empty and beer is in the fridge and coffee is in the kitchen. Oh, and the dog got exercise.

This drag fast inline speed shift was the only way that my dad and his transmission buddy could think of working back in 1975 with the overdrive added. In the box there is another longer shifting handle but it bumped into the bench seat and you would have to smoosh into it in 3rd. The throw was harder and longer as you really needed to focus which gear you were going into. 1st was even harder so the shorter handle and thus throw of the handle was easier and it just misses the seat. Downside is you have to lean forward and lower a tad to shift. That’s why I always thought this truck was theft proof to some degree as who would figure out how to drive it. Ha. I don’t have the stomp starter in it and that would add to the theft protection. This is as far as I got before winter started. It is a balmy 42 degrees in the garage today so I took a picture...and said hello to the truck. It has no name, I just call it Truck. This has made me think that if someone wants to buy this drag fast box with the alternative linkage assembly I could let it go. Cabs in these 30’s trucks are cramped and this does allow an option for overdrive to be added.

Indeed. A fine truck. Makes me want my old one back...just so I could double clutch again. Kudos !

And last was the guarantee with the info card at bottom left. I didn’t know Speed Equip was outta Seattle. Was good to open this box up and rediscover stuff. A decal !!! That was a cool discovery as I didn’t know it was in the box.

Best snow here in New Mexico we’ve had in the last few years. Snowing now lightly. Not too bad for cold at night as the lowest has been single digits. Daytime is invigorating. I live between Santa Fe and Albuquerque at around 6800 ft give or take. It’s still half as much as it used to be.. the snow. I move slower at 68.5 and I need Advil more for the muscles. For some reason my brain reasons the chess game I play with my truck. I am finding I hate working in my dodge garage when it’s cold or really hot...and I really hate the biting flies when it’s hot...oh I hate the wind. What I do like is drinking 2-3 beers instead of taking 2 Advil. Ha

I think it’s the carb and the gas myself. And I would check that coil wire. I still can’t believe a few years back my 64 1/2 mustang wouldn’t start and I had it towed to the nearest shop. They replaced the coil wire. Who woulda thunk ?!? I also learned my lesson with accelerator pumps and sticky inlet valve

Jeez...can’t believe that happened again...my memory is getting foggy but I think this kit gave you 2 options of linkage. This goes back to 1974-75

I tried to rotate this pix and it just keeps showing up like this..apologizes. Anyway this is the box that this inline linkage would come in. My overdrive necessitated this linkage as I barely can shift up against my bench seat. It gets some used to for sure and it’s a sure bet for theft. I doubt a thief could figure it out. You gotta push dn and then back for first and then push forward into central position and let it pop up to push forward into second and then pull back for third. Reverse is push dn and then forward. I think that’s right. There are times I wish I had 3 on the tree though. Oh, customizations can be...intimidating and goofy and fun !

Well, tell that group of strangers to remove their dodgers caps and make sure plenty of flannel shirts are visible in my opinion. That chrome looks pretty good under that frosting of snow btw. I bought a ‘51 cranbrook parts car from a field a few years back and the owner said his dad 20 years earlier got it from another field. He poured gas in the carb and the engine turned over and that was good enough for him. Jeez, I guess that was good enough for me. Since then...mice and rust have taken it down. lol

Thanks Neighborhood Mod for the pix fix ! I searched a bit for an 8 mm spade. I looked at restoration stuff web site etc. I decided to repair the broken switch and it was easy enough after finding the spring. I did clean that used switch proper prior. Took a chisel to secure the backing so it wouldn’t come apart again. Called AB and he apologized and said it was the only switch for my truck and it didn’t have the fasteners. He offered to take it back but that’s cool. I decided to keep it. So I rifled through my nuts and bolts and screws inventory and found 3 screws meant for grounding electrical stuff. They screwed right in with no drilling so problem solved. The good thing about posting a problem to this forum is you will get some thoughts on how to fix it. It gives me pause to think a bit deeper how to solve and go forward.

I have a frustrating problem with this new used dimmer switch from AB. No connection fasteners came with the switch. The other 2 switches I have..old and new have a threaded end on the tabs. Any ideas how I can connect to this switch? Should I contact AB and ask if he has the little fasteners that should go with this switch? I guess I could carefully drill the square slots and simply put a small screw and nut through the slot. Sorry for the pix as I kept rotating it and saving but it keeps rotating wrong for this. You know, when I had my B-1b the clutch/brake pedals would slam the floor bd. When I got the ‘36 it was the same and had more Swiss cheese open holes and what not. I finally am getting wiser and it sure helps that there are more vendors now that sell parts that are easier to find. Even the web. Back in the 70’s for me it was just the WPC News issue with the parts for sale. Maybe Hemmings or JC Whitney. Ha. Ok. I was just doing fine cleaning inside the cab when I decided to start the engine...just to circulate a little coolant before the cold night. Engine wouldn’t start. Something familiar though. I had to pull the choke out and pour a little gas dn the carb. Not good form. I pulled the top of the carb off and the bowl is empty and have a sticky needle. 2 times I did this. Ok. I pulled the carb off and started to take it apart...ugh...green goo. It looked like algae water from an abandoned fish aquarium. Triple ugh. I have to drain the gas tank again and etc etc. It’s time to search out a gas station that sells ethanol free gas and a recycler for old gas. Another detour from putting the new rubber in the cab.

Truck looks great! Who cares about a dumb ole dimmer switch when you’re doing the big picture. Lol. But I bet it’ll be easier to install that switch before the driver fender gets hung. I will be real curious to hear how that kenworth switch works when you do it.

I finally ordered a grommet for the gas pedal rod through the floor bd. My truck/floor bd has never had such luxury. I realize that I need to clean that linkage/rod of all rust and pitting and probably wax it so it slides easily through the opening in the grommet. TLC time for the little stuff
