TodFitch Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 I am, apparently, from one of three cities that I've never lived in. One I've driven through a couple of times, the other two I've never been to at all. I just sound like I'm from there according to this: http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2013/12/20/sunday-review/dialect-quiz-map.html It did, however, peg my wife as being from the general area she actually came from. How close does it guess for you? Quote
40plyrod Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 I guess it worked for me... As it only shows a map of the USA and I'm in Canada the results didn't give me any cities or even show me the map Quote
Old Ray Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 As it only shows a map of the USA I am sure that you must be aware that the known world ends at the 49th parallel. Quote
_shel_ny Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 (edited) I am sure that you must be aware that the known world ends at the 49th parallel. Must end before that. I got no map either Probably just provided some site with info so that I can get some new pop up ads on my computer Edit: You can follow along as each question is answered. It apparently did know that I was not from Southeastern USA. Edited December 22, 2013 by shel_ny Quote

_shel_ny Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 Tried it a second time. Some of the questions were different. Got a map this time. 2 out of 3 got me in the state. Buffalo, Rochester. Close enough. Did not put me on Long Guylnd Also popped me in for Madison Wisconsin. I guess have seen badgers, but have never been to the "Badger State". Quote
Don Coatney Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 After 3 tries I am still lost. Situation normal Quote

52b3b Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 Very funny thing for me in Germany, but I get no result. It may be, that my IP makes problems. But I saw that I was mostly about in the middle (southern) east, than northern west and northern east. Now in accentuation in German: märry kristmess and häppy njew jear Klaus Quote
Barabbas Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 Worked for me--and nailed my hometown exactly... I was raised in Northern Illinois and it predicted Chicago, Aurora and Rockford Il... I did not get a map right away, I had to click on the "most similar cities" a couple of times Quote
plymouthcranbrook Posted December 23, 2013 Report Posted December 23, 2013 My main city was Minneapolis/St Paul and my wife's mother was from there so.... Quote
48Dodger Posted December 23, 2013 Report Posted December 23, 2013 Worked fine for me. Nailed my cities pretty good. Santa Rosa, Stockton, and Modesto...all in California. I lived in Santa Rosa for 14 years, and live near Stockton for the last 16 years.....Modesto is in the same area, 40 mins away. Not bad for asking only 25 questions. 48D Quote
Dan Hiebert Posted December 23, 2013 Report Posted December 23, 2013 Fun part about living all over the place is picking up all the influences. It confuses the folks trying to figure out where I'm from by listening to me. Had an LOL moment on the lightning bug question, just this last summer I noted all the "lightning bugs" in our back yards to my neighbor, who promptly looked at me like I had three heads - they call them "fireflies" around here and he had never heard them called lightning bugs, and he's in his 70's. On a few questions I could say more than one answer depending on the situation, but the map gave me a pretty wide spread - generally "Midwest". I've only been one place where anyone said "you sound like us", and that was Michigan, but I'm not from there. Quote
ggdad1951 Posted December 23, 2013 Report Posted December 23, 2013 I did this on Facebook this AM, nailed me right in Minneapolis/St. Paul as it should be, now if you all just learned to speak well, you'd all be from here! Quote
Scruffy49 Posted December 24, 2013 Report Posted December 24, 2013 It put me in Spokane, Salt Lake City, and Modesto. I'm from WA so, close enough. Quote
Mark D Posted December 26, 2013 Report Posted December 26, 2013 Took a while to generate the results, but it was spot on. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 26, 2013 Report Posted December 26, 2013 (edited) big big error..............nowhere close..me thinks it tracks cookies better... Edited December 26, 2013 by Plymouthy Adams Quote
Dave72dt Posted December 26, 2013 Report Posted December 26, 2013 Just did mine, 100 to 200 miles off but then I have no large cities closer than that. It was more interesting to find the least similar cities. I guess no one will understand me at all in New Orleans or in the state of Mass. Quote
Don Coatney Posted December 27, 2013 Report Posted December 27, 2013 big big error..............nowhere close..me thinks it tracks cookies better... Yum Yum Yum Yum. I have not yet had my fill of Christmas Cookies Quote
