50farmtruck
Hi, I'm so glad to have been turned on to this forum. Looks like there's tons of great info here. My truck is a 1950 that was left to me by my Grandpa. It sat out on the farm for 30+ years but looks to be all original other than the rear bumper. I have a pretty big family & somehow I was the only one who liked the truck. I'm really excited to start work on it! I'll be posting more pics as I go. Thanks

50farmtruck
Thanks everyone! I haven't seen her run in my 32 years, but I've got my fingers crossed that the engine isn't seized. My uncle told me that the only reason it got parked was because my grandpa made him take the generator off to use on another truck they needed at the time. It never moved after that. The truck is still at my grandpa's place till I get the wheels cleaned up & throw some decent tires on her. I drove over today & took a couple more pictures so I can continue my research. Reg, I was wondering about the headlights. I had hoped they were just lenses so I could keep them & just replace bulbs, but they are sealed beams. Never having seen any before I assume they are no longer available? Here's a couple more questions for you guys; what's missing from my dash??? I'm guessing a fuel guage? Also what the heck is a "seat control valve" ? Thanks
JBNeal
I've heard there is a way to convert the sealed bull's eye to a halogen H-4 housing by refurbishing the reflector & polishing the lens, so I picked up a few candidates on eBay to restore some day. The radio knock-out plate is missing from the dash, I've seen a few of those on eBay as well as 802 radios. I'm gonna convert that tube-type radio to a solid state AM/FM receiver with mp3 ports someday. Yessir, someday is gonna be real busy & expensive. As for the seat control valve, that is for a lever at the bottom of the seat that contols the opening that allows air to exit the seat cushion area. Basically it's a spring dampener for the seat that was optional equipment back in the day. My advice about this forum is to read every post; you'll find a wealth of information and a plethora of links to parts and services. I've got a spiral notebook chockfull of details, from engine repair tricks to wiring diagrams. And then there are the upgrades: 180 t-stat, PCV system, seat belts, turn signals, gener-nator, disc brakes, tubeless radial tires, etc.
Young Ed
Yes I've got an article on swapping the backs of the bullseye lights. Don't throw away those lights!
ggdad1951
Ed, keeping them 6V or swapping to 12V? I'll want to do that if I can!
Young Ed
After the conversion its got a replaceable bulb so it may work for either 6v or 12v.

greg g
Seat control valve....for runner of the sleep number bed???? I think you might be able to adjust the seat to meet the needs of your backside. Probably from sitting on a rock hard to just this side of unrelenting discomfort. He Merle you got one of those on your truck you don't know about???? Edited February 20, 2011 by greg g
Desotodav
Welcome 50farmtruck. You just need an 802 radio in your dash and then you are good to go. Let me know when you install it as I am trying to find instructions to install one in my truck. You better connect up that speedometer cable too! Merle Coggins
Seat control valve....for runner of the sleep umber bead????I think you might be able to adjust the seat to meet the needs of your backside. Probably from sitting on a rock hard to just this side of unrelenting discomfort. He Merle you got one of those on your truck you don't know about???? Good one Greg. Yes, my seat does have that valve, however the bottom board material that is used to seal it up is so deteriorated that it doesn't matter if the valve is open or closed. It's still super soft. Here's a pic of the bottom of a seat with the Air-O-Ride valve. Merle
50farmtruck
Thanks again guys! Man, that seat deal doesn't look like much of a "valve":D. Did it really work? I also never would have guessed that a radio went in that tall slot. I just assumed that the radio was in the center of the dash next to the speaker but after zooming in one of my pictures that sure isn't a radio.
