James_Douglas Posted May 3, 2016 Report Posted May 3, 2016 One of these day when I get photos of all my tools, I will have to post some of them. We have had a slight up-tick in garage break-ins here in the Western side of San Francisco. I am in the process of "hardening" the garage. I also wanted to get some serious insurance on my tools in case of break in or an earthquake. My insurance people tell me that I have to get an appraisal of my tools. How the hell do you appraise antique tooling? Things like a fluid drive repair kit or a spindle ream that is used on the long wheelbase cars only with one busing and one bearing. Some of those tools took years to hunt down. I hate insurance companies! Quote
TodFitch Posted May 3, 2016 Report Posted May 3, 2016 Made up this little test tool the other day from some pipe and the Schrader valve left over from making my pressure bleeder. Way back when, I setup my most trusted pressure gauge with some quick disconnects so that I could check/set the pressure at the end of a hose when painting. This those two ganged together I can now check my various tire pressure gauges to see how consistent and accurate they are. 5 Quote
DonaldSmith Posted May 3, 2016 Report Posted May 3, 2016 James, for insurance coverage of tools: I wonder if agreed value insurance would be available, as for collector cars. Who's the guy with the 39 DeSoto and with all the rare tools? His name escapes me. maybe he could help you set a value. Quote

AMMCO 1750 Brake gage value at 600 Miller MT19 Tool with 7 adapterset that is the factory equal to the Ammco gage last time went for $1000 on ebay. so your tool do have value because they are no longer made. Desotodav Posted July 27, 2016 Report Posted July 27, 2016 (edited) Now, where did I put that wrench from China?... ahh there it is... ... Edited July 27, 2016 by Desotodav 4 Quote
Niel Hoback Posted July 27, 2016 Report Posted July 27, 2016 That's hilarious !!! Nothing like quality control, eh? Somehow, I don't think I'd trust that wrench with very much torque. Quote
DonaldSmith Posted July 28, 2016 Report Posted July 28, 2016 Can you be sure it's really Heavy DuhTOOoey? Quote
DJ194950 Posted July 28, 2016 Report Posted July 28, 2016 Have you considered that that maybe the person setting the lettering may actually know how to spell in ingslish, but decided to make a quiet protest of his 25 cent per hour pay?? DJ Quote

DJ even so....by that manner of thinking, the QA guy may also be underpaid...... Quote
DJ194950 Posted July 29, 2016 Report Posted July 29, 2016 Underpaid? I didn't say that! For China that might be the Good paying job for a farm boy! Bet the QA gets a least 26 cents and hour. Maybe even 27 if he has been there a few years. Too bad tho, He could have been a manager if he was from the right family. DJ Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 29, 2016 Author Report Posted July 29, 2016 Could be that the Chinese believe that most Americans cannot spell and will not notice the difference. 1 Quote

linus6948 Posted August 30, 2016 Report Posted August 30, 2016 Needed to change out a TH350 transmission so I needed a tranny jack. I found the best deal from Summit Racing and I used it to remove a bad trans and then install a replacement. It worked very well and it was an easy one man job, I welded a piece of conduit to it as a jack handle holder and used a cargo strap instead of the chain they provide. 1 Quote
DonaldSmith Posted September 8, 2016 Report Posted September 8, 2016 Here is a wrench holder that my wife sewed up for me, per my design. It displays the wrenches in order for handy use, and rolls up for carrying with other tools. 1 Quote
JBNeal Posted September 13, 2016 Report Posted September 13, 2016 (edited) TOOLBOX ARSENAL: I was given this case of tools years ago and only recently took a closer look at it...manufacturing date of March 1959 was seen in several places, newest documentation appears to be from mid 60s, I'm thinking the batteries I removed from each of these are 50 yrs old and not leaking (which was clearly guaranteed on 2 of those batteries)...am looking forward to using these on the engine test stand Edited August 23, 2021 by JBNeal revised pictures 3 Quote

Merle Coggins Posted September 13, 2016 Report Posted September 13, 2016 Cool. Seems that the timing light is missing from that kit. Too bad. That would have completed the set. Quote
