Merle Coggins Posted April 30, 2021 Report Posted April 30, 2021 Fun... We had a ‘70 Polara Custom, 2 door hard top, when I was growing up. Rebuilt the 383 in high school shop class and it became “my car” thru high school. My cousins had a ‘72 4 door, just like the one in the video. Mine was that same green color too. Quote
oldodge41 Posted April 30, 2021 Report Posted April 30, 2021 Spent some quality time with the family '68 Plymouth VIP when I was in high school. 383 was smooth as silk. Quote
RNR1957NYer Posted April 30, 2021 Report Posted April 30, 2021 Learned how to drive in Dad’s ‘69 Polara 2 door hardtop - we called it the Andrea Doria. Did you know a 383 2v Polara could take a ‘69 Bonneville with a 455? Quote
plymouthcranbrook Posted April 30, 2021 Report Posted April 30, 2021 (edited) Reminds me of my 1970 Plymouth Fury I ex police car. 383, four bbl. geared high for cruising and top speed I suppose but accelerated fast enought to get your attention. Edited April 30, 2021 by plymouthcranbrook Quote
Dan Hiebert Posted April 30, 2021 Report Posted April 30, 2021 Awesome. I like the full size MoPars. My brother had a '78 Plymouth Fury ex NC Highway Patrol car for a few years. I babysat it Stateside when he PCSed to Germany the second time. Thing was a beast, had the 440 Police Interceptor. It would go faster and get there quicker than I cared to drive it (at the time). Frank Elder Posted May 2, 2021 Report Posted May 2, 2021 Had both a 1969 New Yorker sedan and a 1971 Chrysler 300 two door, both cars were red with white vinyl tops and white interiors. Like taking your comfy couch down the road......don’t think either one got over 12 mpg no matter how I drove them. Quote
Boody Posted May 2, 2021 Report Posted May 2, 2021 My father had a 1969 Chrysler 300 2 door bucket seats am/FM 8 track floor shifter and a 440 engine. That was in the late 70s .He was a Chrysler mechanic and always bought trade ins. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted May 2, 2021 Report Posted May 2, 2021 Oh yeah... We also had a 1970 Chrysler Newport. That’s the vehicle I took my drivers license driving test in. Quote

plymouthcranbrook Posted May 5, 2021 Report Posted May 5, 2021 Like an old geezer like me having to parallel park a school bus for my CDL test Quote

Past the test first try in that beast. I did a lot of my "practice" driving in Grandpa's '66 Newport. I think the '70 was about the same size, although it looked bigger. Quote

My road test story in the aforementioned '69 Polara: The road tester had me parallel park behind his New York State issue '68 Fairlane. Despite all my Dad's instruction (did I mention Dad was a WW II Army Air Corps flight instructor?) I hit the curb backing in. After the test I went back to the parked Fairlane to see how I screwed up - the SOB parked his car with the passenger side wheels two feet over the curb and onto the sidewalk! Couple days later the "junior license" came in the mail anyway! Passed first time (as did my Mom and Sister before me - like I said, Dad was a flight instructor!) Quote
MackTheFinger Posted May 7, 2021 Report Posted May 7, 2021 BIL bought a new Super Bee in 1970. In '71 I ran it right into a tree for him. Not real hard, just enough!! Dragging it uphill out of the woods gave the old JD 50 all it wanted! That car was lots of fun! Quote
