So dug out the Westach I got from someone on here to drop into FEF. Instructions are a bit cryptic.

4 wires

one to the dizzy: got it

One to neg: where?

One to positive: ground (assume any ground?)

One to negative on light switch: negative side of light switch? Ignition switch makes more sense?

Thanks

They float the grounds so neg goes to ignition on. Pos is any ground and correct, neg to light switch

Why the light switch? Just seems odd to me.

Ah! So where does a guy find a 1/4 amp fuse?

Lots of wiring diagrams online, just google the tack make, I had to do it a week ago for an old tach I found to put in my Monaco. The truck has a fancy 5" 3in1 Omega tach...it wires really funny

5 fuses: $1.39

Shipping: $8.49

Yikes! When they show up I'll know how my wiring job is today.

fuse came today, put one in and fired him up....results below:

Awesome Mark....time to check it against a GPS???

Below 3000? I wouldn't want to lug my 5 speed through that shift pattern...I shift it about 32-3300 and it sounds just fine..I set my max at 3800 but rarely take it that far. I'm at 800 idle as well, when the carpet doesn't hang up the pedal at 1000. Does that sticker come off that gauge?

One of these days I'm gonna slip some lead into the toe of your right shoe so you can press a little harder on that pedal. Let 'er spin Mark. My tach only reads up to 3500 so I use that as my max. I keep my idle around 700-800 otherwise it seems too low when idling against the Fluid Drive.

well I'll report tomorrow after I drive down on my tach vs ear outcome.  I think I can prolly go harder than I have in the past, big concern is stopping distance tho as well.

quite the shake down this AM!  Tach indicated 800 PRM at idle, and at 55MPH, 2500RPM,  I even took a chance and ran jim up to 60MPH, but I think I might be floating valves or something, kinda started to "diesel" a bit.  Oddly now the tach reads 200 RPM when the truck is off and it carries that adder when running.

Proof for Merle!

Maybe it's just pinging and not a rpm issue, my timing is pretty far forward, if I'm hard on it I can make it ping on regular gas, premium and it all goes away.

Meh, we'll 60 is a bit fast for him for stopping so 55 is fine by me.

Might want to take a look at the points.

With the gearing you have in FEF I seriously doubt that 55mph and 2500rpm go together. Does your tach have a switch for how many cylinders it is supposed to be reading? My old Westach Universal does. Mine reads idle fine at 600-625 but dumps off around 1200 rpm because I have a trigger instead of points. I disconnected it and used a handheld digital to make certain of engine speed during testing. With a 3.55 rear axle I am running right around 2650 rpm at 65 mph.
