  1. New rebuilt engines are usually tight and somewhat tough to start the first time. I know when I have done a few piston and ring jobs that has been the case. It has been told to me several times down through the decades, that upon that first start to run the engine at a higher R.P.M. for about 15 to 20 minutes to allow for the initial rings to seat/set themselves. In this manner the engine will then be able to start smoother upon subsequent re-starts. After a few gentle rides (break in period) all will be corrected in such a manner that it will start smoothly each time. I typically find resetting the Timing, and also using a vacumm Gauge to reset the carb is quite useful at this time as well. Tom
  2. Search ebay, and you will find a group of the Bake Lite Parts you are referring to. Ssearch 1948 Chrysler, I believe they are the Royal Style (Cream Color with marbled look). The seller is proud of them.
  3. Too Sunny today for good pics but here goes. I just took these moments ago
  4. Got Best of show today in Concord North Carolina. Great Cars there - about 300 - 350 Cars
  5. Vacumn Gauge test tells alot about the health of an engine and whether it has vacumn any advance as well if you know how to use one. Cheap @ $20 for a Gauge at Auto Store - easy test also. You can set a Carburator with one or discover a problem with the Carb or choke as well
  6. Mash down on the Clutch Pedal. It should drop right in place
  7. One on ebay now under 1948 Chrysler
  8. http://r.ebay.com/Mwtfpo Here is a picture
  9. eBay item number: Ebay # 122581485570
  10. Roberts or Bernbaums has great Laquer covered cloth wire sets at good prices.
  11. I found a picture of the proper condenser hook up to the Generator on ebay, but could not copy it, and save it to share. My 1948 Chrysler Manual doesn't have a picture, or I would share it. I just thought it would be nice to see a picture of it for the new guys to learn something.
  12. Greg, That is the solution. Do you have a picture of the Condenser on the Generator so we can see how it is attached? Thank you in advance. Tom
  13. Anytime going through the entire brake system is a sound practice. Also check all wiring possible as therein may be the solution. A shorted wire between the switch and brake lights may or may not be the culprit.
  14. Do you have the Service Manual? The Stops have to be set right/properly. This is at the place where the brake pedals and Clutch pedals are set. Pay attention to the Minor Brake Shoe settings as well. Use your manual!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. I like the Yellow, Green, Beige, and the Blue. I was just thinking I better go with the Stock.
  16. Rich, My 1948 has it under the driver's floor as well. It sounds like the same set up from 1937 - 1949, and maybe even later. Tom
  17. Bench Seat Rear Front removal: Take the Philips head screw(s) out Lift out the seat Rear upward. Maybe its the same for the split seat??
  18. Rich, I am sorry this happened. Please update us on the repaired Tool. Every, yes every time in my life that I lent tools out, except once - maybe - I had to finally go ask for them back. Sometimes never to even get them back. This brings to mind, as well as the Shakespeare saying: "No good deed goes unpunished". Well here's hoping you get it fixed and feel better about the whole thing after all. You are a good fellow to have endured for so long, and I hope one goonie bird doesn't ruin your outlook on life or our group here. Good Luck. Tom
  19. Excellent! Enjoy your ride. That's what makes owning these cars the real deal! Tom
  20. Yeah, I used H. Duty Cables and the sparks kept coming. Something is monked up in there, and obviously I don't know what the HE - double L I am doing. I am going to ship it out West there is a Cracker Jack Starter - Generator Place I know of that will make quick work of this Starter. Thanks again I guess I was in over my head with this one. At least I got my mind right now - (Cool Hand Luke). L.O.L.
