  1. I actually boiled them first then lubed the heck out of them inside and out. I installed them as the manual says and had no problems. Maybe I got lucky lol.
  2. Good to know. I have a 52 Coronet also and I’ll keep that in mind.
  3. If you don’t know the history of the car I recommend non detergent oil. Modern oil will break up the accumulated sludge and allow it to migrate to places you don’t want it. After an engine rebuild modern detergent oil is fine.
  4. If you’re not concerned about originality an aluminum radiator is an option. I don’t remember where I bought mine for my 52 Coronet but it was under $150.00
  5. I agree with Rich. I have an electric pump on my Coronet. It’s great for priming the system after the car sits. I highly recommend replacing the fuel line especially if you’re installing a new tank. Nickel copper line is easy to work with and lasts forever. Be careful with the ferrule at the tank connection. It tends to disappear into a black hole if you drop it.
  6. Adding a filter before the pump is a good idea. Use a metal inline filter not plastic and put it somewhere easy to get to. Mine is just in front of the left rear tire. I change it every spring when I do the annual service.

What is the condition? I did the same thing. Mine is at the machine shop waiting it’s turn. All the shops seem busier than usual but that’s okay. Mine is a winter project. Good luck with yours and keep us posted.
  8. It’s a shame that he’s not supplying the hubs anymore. My kit was much easier to install and should the need arise I still have the original parts. It was truly a bolt on.
  9. Not sure but try the Plymouth Doctor.
  10. It used to be that late 40’s early 50’s Mopars were everywhere. They are an affordable way to get into the old car hobby. Now when I go to a show I’m often the only car of that vintage. Interest in the older stuff isn’t what it was. I’m afraid a lot of cars and trucks are going to be scrapped when their owners die .
  11. I’m guessing that location was convenient for the assembly line workers and not meant for crazy people like us 75 years later lol.
  12. What a great story! Making memories is what it’s all about.
  13. Are you considering a new project Andy?
  14. Do you need the dashpot itself or the rod shown in the bottom picture?
  15. Beautiful car! You do really nice work.
  16. I haven’t seen the movie yet but usually the studio reaches out to local car owners in whatever location they’re filming.
  17. Keith my Coronet ran between 190-210 with a 180 stat. Never boiled over just ran hot. My engine was rebuilt about 10,000 miles ago with new pump, hoses, etc. I have a Stewart Warner temperature gauge mounted under dash and I trust the accuracy. I’m currently running a 160 stat for the summer and it’s definitely cooler running. I wonder how they acted when new in rush hour traffic?
  18. Thanks. The price is good and I’m a cheapskate lol.
  19. I’m wanting to pick up one of these. Which brands are you all using? The prices range from $20 to $200. I’m wondering if the harbor freight cheapie is accurate enough for checking coolant temperature etc. Seems like this would be a useful diagnostic tool.
  20. For cell phone charging there are inverters available. I have one wired to the ignition switch to a double USB port.
  21. I’ve heard of connecting 2 optima 6 volt batteries together. I’m not sure if it’s series or parallel. Apparently you get double the amperage to the starter and the genny still charges both. I seem to remember the car was a 55 Lincoln and that was the owners solution for hard starting.
  22. Thanks for the information!
  23. Do you have the contact information? I’d love to have the information on my 52 Coronet.
  24. Sometimes it’s best to walk away from the car and come back to the problem later. I’ve made the same kinds of mistakes many times lol. Glad you figured it out.
  25. Great pics! I’m a Dodge guy but I love the DeSoto’s too.
