  1. Joe I have a vacuum gauge that I use for tuning also. How do I use it to measure fuel pressure? And yes I do have a filter before the electric pump but it also has its own filter. I’m wondering if that is causing the problem. The pump filter isn’t removable which is stupid. My filter is new. I change that every spring.
  2. Yeah I’m not gonna try that. I like the idea of having a backup pump. I didn’t think the tee idea would work just checking.
  3. Unfortunately I don’t have a gauge for checking fuel pressure yet. I guess that’s the next investment. For now I’m insulating the line from the pump to the carb. If that doesn’t work I’ll bypass the electric pump and try that. I just checked the line and found no leaks so that’s good.
  4. Joe, my mechanical pump is new and didn’t solve the problem. The weird thing is that the problem is temperature sensitive and my engine doesn’t run hot (steady 160 degrees). My tank and lines are new. I’m going to try bypassing the electric pump to see if that makes any difference. I never had this issue before I added the electric pump but it didn’t start doing this immediately after so I’m stumped.
  5. I’m currently running an Airtex E-8902 electric pump inline along with a mechanical pump. I use the electric pump for priming and vapor lock. The problem I’m having lately is a fuel starvation issue only on warm days. Turning on the electric pump cures the problem. I’m wondering if the electric pump is creating a restriction that is worsened by warm temperatures. My question is whether I can run a tee and have the electric pump on its own loop? In other words a tee before and after the pump. I’m also considering getting a good Carter pump and eliminating the mechanical pump altogether. Any thoughts?
  6. Thanks Sam! That’s the one.
  7. I seem to recall that some of you are using a Carter 6 volt electric fuel pump. Can someone please tell me which one? I’m currently using an Airtex E-8901 pump as an auxiliary pump and I think it may be causing some restriction issues.
  8. Dave I have the same problem. If you figure it out let me know also.
  9. Should rotate freely when you blip the throttle. If it’s too tight you’ll experience vapor lock (don’t ask how I know).
  10. It should be very similar to your Saratoga. Of course you’re losing two cylinders and some horsepower but overall it should feel familiar to you. Good luck and post pics. I’m going to look at a 49 DeSoto tomorrow morning. My Coronet needs a friend lol.
  11. If need be a heat riser kit is available from Andy Bernbaums.
  12. Buy a good quality cover from a reputable retailer such as California Car Cover. Manufacturers offer different covers for inside or outside use.
  13. Thanks for this. It should be a big help for anyone who needs to service their own steering box.
  14. Keith, 51 New Yorker and Imperial got the Hemi first. Later in the model year they stuffed it in the lighter Windsor chassis and created the Saratoga which was one of the first muscle cars.
  15. Go with the Nicopp. It’s pricey but it’s easy to work and will last forever. The electric pump is nice to have for the reasons you mentioned. Be careful removing the line at the tank. There is a ferrule in there that tends to bounce and disappear into a black hole.
  16. Good score Rich! I need to start shopping with you. You always find the good stuff.
  17. Set the idle speed at 450-500 so the transmission shifts properly.
  18. Nice work! It compliments your interior.
  19. You may be on to something PA. The dash light for the ammeter and fuel gauge went out about the same time as my problem started. At one point I reached up to try and find the bulb (unsuccessfully) . I may have jostled the wires and fixed the electrical connection. Dodge didn’t make it easy for someone with back problems to get to anything under there.
  20. If I’m reading it right it shows the same part number for both 1246 402.
  21. I believe the convertible is shorter. I’m at work but I’ll check my parts book when I get home and get back to you.
  22. Just be careful with the radiator shop. Your car has a non pressurized system and if they pressure test it bad things happen.
  23. That’s what I needed. Thanks
  24. Yes I’m checking voltage with the key in the run position. Continuity testing is difficult due to the armored cable and the fact that I can’t get the switch to drop down far enough to get easy access to the terminals. 52 Coronet by the way.
  25. I’m trying to determine if my ignition switch is bad. How much voltage drop is acceptable?
