  1. Great story.....bet you could write a series of books on their lives.
  2. That puller looks like it was made by a kid in China.....probably took him an hour +/-.....
  3. "Metal fume fever", very familiar with it.
  4. Does everybody still have their eyebrows? Sounds good!
  5. It is not 1-1/2 threads....what Seaside Pete was referring to was 1-1/2 times bolt diameter, ie: 1/2" bolt would require minimum of 3/4" penetration of the drum. I'm sure there is a maximum, as to not interfere with any internal brake components. Re-read his post. EDIT:BTW Fred, dig the flatty, speed holes and all. With a car as nice as yours, I would expect nothing less!
  6. Been following this thread....gotta say you done quite a bit in a relatively short time. Once the brake problem is fixed & exhaust done, you'll be able to rip up some asphalt.
  7. You seem to be getting a lot done in quick time.....keep at it. Check out this thread, post #44.....http://p15-d24.com/topic/36234-1950-suburban-57-hemi-project/page-3
  8. Thread on the same subject in the OT (hint, hint) forum started the day before: http://p15-d24.com/topic/37538-patina-for-paul-f/
  9. It DOES come with a price though.
  10. Hearing it run makes a HUGE difference on a project of this magnitude.....makes it seem that much closer to completion. Excellent work!
  11. In some cases like this, there are owners who tell themselves everyday for the next 50 years "I'll get to that one, one day". That day never comes & the guy passes away, his kids/grand kids/great grand kids want nothing to do with them & scrap them. Meanwhile, for those 50 years, the guy probably had offers from people, that would've restored to original, hot rodded, wrecked, whatever......but, at least someone would've enjoyed them instead of them rotting away. I have friends like that & I'm sure more than a few can relate.
  12. The engine # on my '38 is stamped on the drivers side frame rail behind the axle kick up, close to the cross member in front of the gas tank.......any '41 owners should be able to confirm exactly where yours might be. You may have to use a scraper/sandpaper to expose.
  13. Did you ever run in the bucket? Looks like it would've been a fun ride. Looks good where it sits now too.
  14. Nice looking '41.....would like to see it in person at 1 of our "So Cal gatherings".
  15. Very nice!!!! What brand/size tires are you running?
  16. Stick a small magnet in it....by color of it, it may be brass?
  17. Came out nice, hope it's within the weight regulations. When my son was doing it, they also had an "outlaw" class for fun. Looks like it's been moved to the OT forum. I don't see why you should be concerned if it's not in the OT forum, nobody else does.....I see parts wanted threads & "OT" in titles in forums other than the classifieds & OT forums all the time......that stay there for days/weeks.
  18. Drilled backing plates...or anything else that isn't structural.
  19. There are so many ways to go with that comment, that I will refrain, as to not offend any particular religious group.
  20. Can you post results of your testing for us? If it's proprietary info & you choose not to, I understand. I have a Sharp dual carb intake & am curious how it rates among them. I'm currently running the Carter/Weber carbs Langdon sells, but I really want to send a couple stock carbs I have to George for rebuilding. Thanks for any info & your informative posts. Derek
  21. If you broke 2 pullers, you're most likely using the wrong type. This is the type you need:
  22. Looks good. Lately, a few members have installed a Champion radiator (not sure if it's the same part#) and had to cut the top fitting for the radiator hose to line up. Either you have a different one or Champion got with the program. Good luck with the starting issue.
  23. I was running Autolite 295 (same as AC 45 in the x-reference) with the stock head in my '38 Plymouth 201 c.i. with good results.
  24. Not sure if you've seen this on vacuum gauge readings (scroll down to "the readings")....http://www.secondchancegarage.com/public/186.cfm
