  1. https://www.parts-express.com/mercury-tilt-switch--060-852?AID=13715689&PID=8280252&SID=9e0759baa5011d5d3ce1062caff859c1&cjevent=580dcc06171a11eb82fe01a50a1c0e11&utm_source=CJ Something one of these? Just did a quick web search for replacement type mercury switch and this was the first thing that came up, probably way more out there. DJ
  2. Most of the R-10 OD solenoids are stamped on the out side case near the electrical terminals with either a 6V. or 12V. . Not hard to see. Otherwise a web search with the stamped part # will tell. DJ
  3. Have all plugs been removed and oil added to the cylinders to lube after some (assumed) sitting unused). Maybe some rust in one or more cylinders causing the drag through one spot. If dry you could be causing problems in the cylinder(s) rings, wall, etc. Maybe removing the head would be a great idea to check? as suggested. That head of your appears to be different that later models with the humped up area at the driver side rear part. I do not know if that was how 40 heads are myself.? DJ
  4. There must be that some co. out there still makes a plastic alignment tool for these setups. When I had Tennessee Clutch redo my clutch setup they sent my clutch parts back rebuilt along with a plastic alignment tool with the parts and the whole job cost was quite reasonable. If someone here can offer up the measurements -input shaft size, add your tooth count for the disc. and throw out bearing shaft area size plus all lengths I would think you could do some web search and locate one. Maybe just a call to Tennessee Clutch and Brake (full name) and purchase? DJ
  5. Easily setup operation with 12 volt is doable. One part I found that was needed was a 12 volt solenoid which was used on many brands ot cars that got a BW OD of similar style. Off and on many are on EBAY. Others have said in the past the 6 v. solenoid works on 12v also , I found that I blew fuses quickly so I bought a 12v. on eBay with no problems. New also available but $$. Use a 12 relay for activation. The governor if used does not care about voltage neither does a kickdown switch or toggle switch to take out of OD or engage it. DJ
  6. Plan to run premium fuel full time? If you really want that higher comp. ratio for the pistons you will need to have discussions with several custom piston manufacturers. May need to have shorter overall height or/and move the piston pin location and ring type to live with the long stroke. Going to need a engineer involved, but that is only my opinion. Make a call of 2 or 3. Several co.'s do this sort of thing but my memory just went blank ( as happens) to some names. ? DJ
  7. Can you work remotely? If you could get it to say AZ for the winter then lots of possibilities. ? Well dreams can help! A big screen TV set up in front of the car with Go-Pro type driving scenes as seen through the windshield? and pretend? DJ
  8. Not to mention the steel ones had many problems with rusting in place and damn hard to remove. May not be so bad if owners keep their cars with good antifreeze and replace it as now recommended. DJ
  9. Check out this company on page one engine parts for the filter setup. More like $35 https://www.vintagepowerwagons.com/online-parts-catalog DJ
  10. My only advice from what I have read many, many times is only about the bag manufacturer only. That is Firestone bags always seem to be top of the line in quality. Not make in China cheapies that are every where but way cheaper. DJ
  11. The "W" word is welcomed by me here in Ca. after months of high 90's-107+ for months. Lows here are mostly 40-50 overnight occasionally some 30's low. Finally down recently to high 80's and headed down. The "S" is never! Has been 30+ years since a dusting of that c--p. Good to visit for a day, but. The word Rain would be very welcome and a fair amount is Needed! DJ
  12. My thought - carry a volt meter with you and this issue comes up, stop and check voltage to the coil while still running. Low volts can cause this. It may be getting very low due to heat in wiring, ign. switch, other issues? DJ
  13. I had a women in her late 20-early 30's come in the tire shop where I worked and asked for us to check her brakes. She said her brakes just Recently began making loud noises and did not work well . With the front tires off it looked very much like the the picture. Rotors only had the fins left no smooth flat area left and the pads were also just the metal backing plates. I figured the last of the pad material tore off and it just starting making a noise she could not ignore. ? I told her what she needed and approx. cost she chose to drive off against my strong advice otherwise! ☠️ DJ
  14. My thoughts as others, do not paint it. Take the time to at least loosen fender bolts and mask as needed. I bought a car that already had the welting painted and it it has caused nothing but problems on top of the cracked paint on the welt as the paint fills the small spaces between the body and fender. Needed to do many small repairs that never seemed to end. Still not right but OK. Try to remove anything with out causing all kinds of issues of the paint of the body / welt / fender. area. ..Likes to chip here and there. Also glues the parts together. Not worth the small time savings- my experience on two cars only, but- -- DJ
  15. In 1966 them old cars are just that- old cars! ? Helped make convertibles even more rare . DJ
  16. I see absolutely no problems running with heavier wire. Pretty much always true, going heavier does not cause issues but going smaller than needed is where things and wires let the smoke out and maybe your place also becomes smoke. I do believe I would ask someone certified as a electrician to check out the whole idea as it seems you are asking for same on this forum. DJ
  17. Not by 1950 either. DJ
  18. Would you believe that i is original paint? Not me! ? I do not believe anyone said it was but it does look very nice "battleship grey" ??. DJ
  19. Even in crazy Calif. my good friend got a 57 GMC truck from his kid. The title however was one number off from the door tag. His kid had paid the state for a history of the title owners and info as registered. No Addresses but years owned. Also said the same title number going back about 20 years. So he and I searched EBAY over several years ( no hurry as he had other projects) for a repo tag that Very closely matched the original with spots for weights etc. Finally bought one and found a engraver at the local trophy shop that he already knew that had some very original stamp types and made the one change needed. Problem solved. Yes, he kept the original tag and the state title search for the future. DJ
  20. 230 Crank stroke is longer therefore rods need to be shorter. Otherwise the pistons would come out of the top of the block opon reaching TDC, See attached for crank casting numbers that should answer what crank you have bought. Info from enginepartswarehouse.com DJ
  21. They are small enough that I have had some door springs mailed to me in a padded envelope once and another time just a heavier paper regular envelope wrapped lightly with tissue in the regular mail, just a bit of extra postage was added to make sure mail weight was covered. Both worked fine. Might be able to skip any duties on such "letters"?? Just a thought, not suggesting a tax dodge! ? DJ
  22. A picture of the exhaust will tell what is up with that. Motor length at least should give more clues. A picture of the crankshaft aft end and number of holes in the flange plus a measurement of standout of the crank from the block will also some experienced people here supply with info as to changes required to make fit your app. Overall if price is right and with some more info I wish Good Luck! DJ
  23. Harmony, Did some quick searches and came up with Walmart Canada sells Wix and Possibly? could order what you Also found the Wix dist. search for US and Canada. Just input your 6 digit zip code for local suppliers in Canada. Sorry but came out in some format I coud not attach. But just a web search for: Wix dealers lookup is where I got it. Oh well, I am not that sharp on computer formats and such. May give some more choices and possibly prices? DJ
  24. May have helped but the 4 wheel lockup did allow me to get slowed down enough to be able to let off and turn left sharply and not rearend the stopped car ahead of me . Was driving cross town in afternoon traffic and aggressive driving by all sucked me in also. Now I remind myself that driving any of my cars that I'm retired- What the hell am I rushing for?? ? DJ
  25. Using a proper tool for adjustment of brake shoes also showed me the most likely Chinese shoes I purchased had a slight twist in the mounting point on one end. This is repairable and was covered in my repair manual, it causes the shoe to not lay flat across the brake drum surface and brakes are not good. After correcting and more adjustment, brakes are super. I found out how well when I had to do a panic stop shortly after and all 4 tires locked up. As good as it can get. DJ
