  1. The moral of Laurens story may be- Drill and tap the hole for a grease fitting of the new pumps weep hole now and install on the car without the fitting as is. Then years down the road if it starts leaking you can easily screw in a grease fitting and pump in some waterproof grease as used for boat trailers wheel bearings and is commonly available. If it works out, Great, if not a small loss of time. ? DJ
  2. Some have used a thin rubber band to hold in the rollers of the sprang in while assembling, which I ended up doing after many tries using just greases of several types. The rubber band just gets pushed out during assembly and then is chewed up and drops out without causing any problems. Too soft and no volume to the band. James I feel you may hate the idea of using the rubber band but my R-10 worked great for the years (6) that i owned the car (just sold). DJ

  6. I think I would post a parts wanted hereon the forum and elsewhere for a std 3 spd. trans. for parts at least because most ones use all the same gears as long as the gears syncho's are the types are the same. Early and later are different. Use the best parts as needed. Save you lots of money!! New parts are $$ and not real easy to find. Bearings and such are usually readily avail. locally most often. My 2-5 cents or is it 10 cents today? ? DJ

  12. Did you run it with the tire on and watch for run out of wheel/tire? I redid my brakes and did not get the rear hub on the tapered axle to sit straight on the axle, had a big wobble of tire and wheel even after tightened to torque specs. Removed tire/wheel/hub and cleaned/filed the axle face where the key is and also filed rough edges of the key. Problem solved. Just a thought. DJ
  13. O Rielly's ?sp? whatever, sells a Sta-Bil fogging oil spray as you mentioned for around here for $10-12 And have in stock.. Just a thought unless a marine place near you keeps that in stock. DJ
  14. No bows on a 50 Ply.- 4 dr. -Under the rear window. I doubt there was any, as I have never seen one on any car of this age, but never know ,there is always an exception. DJ
  15. I prefer to have cable made to fit as needed. Also several welding supply places here will sell you the pieces to solder ( my preferred way- no corrosion can get into the connection) battery terminals to welding cable (fine strand wire that carry way more amps than the heavy strands often used in auto cables) or most can also do a crimp type of connection to the terminals if you do not know how or have the tools to solder them. Prices were very reasonable and most often done on your visit. Just one opinion if you have the option. DJ
  16. Thanks for the offer!! I will keep you in mind for sure. I did a lot on painting in the past and can do small projects but overall finish- my back says no! 23. I wanted to finish it while still able ? to complete my 50 Suburban that I had bought 26 years ago. Worked on it Slowly for about 12 years> Had Big ideas of street rodding it and slowly spend a lot of money on it. I may do a thread about what was done is what still needs to be done. I may draw some interest but may also some haters as it does have a Chevy V-8 and 700 R-4 trans. Modern front suspension , R&P , AC, cruise, tilt wheel , power seat installed . When started I had never heard of this forum nor any contacts etc. for stock parts for repairs. I have many times wished that I had known of these as I surely wish that I had done the stock repairs and had driven this car for many years now! Done is done and I still love the cars shape, design, and style which is why I bought the car so many years ago.! I Hope to have a easily driveable car anywhere. If I can get it done? If any wish to see where it is now and follow as I attempt to finish finish body work, paint, glass, interior replacements.?? Do have many early pics as I lost many years ago when my old computer crashed and I had not backed up at all! ? It will most likely be slow progress , unfortunately ! DJ
