  1. "Put a load of bricks in it and park the left side in a pothole.....then measure....I bet its more dramatic. Like I say, its probably not as important now as back then....but its still a frame willing to flex under the right situation. 48D August 7, 2018 by 48Dodger" I still stand by my statement from a few years back......
  2. PM sent.* 48D *Code for: I got one he can buy from me, in case his project doesn't work out.
  3. Valve float or Floating valves.....happens when you "outrun" your valve's spring rate. Usually comes with a few pops or sputters. Any of that? example: running the 1/4 mile race, you'll hear guys comment when they see fuel burning out the tailpipe "He's shifting to late, his valves are floating" meaning he's hitting his rpm ceiling. This can also happen when bubba grabs springs "that'll work" off the back shelf up top where they keep the peanut butter. 48D
  4. Exactly what I did......... Using Google Photo and USB back-up for the super important pics. 48D
  5. So......Los mentioned a different type of line for fuel usage. Then a warning was issued about it not being for all fuels........ Then...someone mentioned he would like further explanation..... The original poster started the whole deal with his statement about steel fuel lines...... That's how I read it anyway. 48D
  6. Most, if not all parties have checked in and this WILL be the date. I plan on advertising early and often to local truck clubs and to individual PH owners in the area. I would appreciate any + all help in bringing up the event in forum posts as well as being on the look out for interested PH owners not on the forum! On a side note. I think the 20th BBQ will be my last.....maybe. 2022 will be #15, 2027 will be #20. I'll be 63 years old. Kinda a good run I think. 48D
  7. I wanna paint it. Bring it to the BBQ 2022..... Take it home from the next BBQ 2023.... Visit it a couple times between those two BBQ's. 48D
  8. E7T2 is(was) used from 1940-60 Trucks and Marine. E6P5 was used for Chrysler cars 1934-39. Trucks were expected to carry heavier loads then cars and would require carb dynamics to perform at lower rpm's (ie lower vacuum). If you drive a truck like a car, might never notice the difference. 48D
  9. an even shorter link: Old B1B 48D
  10. Sounds like you're keeping the truck....?? Sorry to hear of your health changes, I believe you'll turn things around. Cutting back your automotive workload might help. Glad you're enjoying the greenery......it hasn't been that so much out here back home in the Valley. 48D
  11. "100 years from now, there won't be any part of me worth rebuilding.....oh but the stories I'll leave behind." stuff 48D has said to his son Making horse carriages is a skill, a craft that goes on even today, thou those craftsmen are very few. The same may be said of the guys who will choose to build vehicles from "back in the 20th century" with their "Iron Horse Replicator 2000". Maybe just a few....but I'm still trying to help those building them now, with my large stash of L6 motors and spare parts. 48D
  12. Some of the posse of this forum ....48dodger, ggdad, Merle, Ed, Jerimiah, Todd and others.....CA, WI, MN....yes, we meet up sometimes. 48D
  13. Yep....that's your ornament, and a good price to boot. Looks like the front bolt broke off in the deal there. Take it to a Engine Machine shop and they'll clean it out for you. Or maybe you get lucky and its not stuck in there to tight. 48D Side note: Turn signals were available for certain models going back before the 50's. The mandate (law) was in 1955. The signals you have are aftermarket for the 1950's....maybe not the lens. So....feel free to play around with your signal deal cuz what you have isn't factory. I always take the signals off the top of the front fenders, and use the running lights on the nose piece as the turn signals. The Signal Stat 900 Sigflare is common (you might have one already), and older year turn signal/brake light brackets. Use to be pre 1955 trucks had one light for brake indication, so finding a passenger side bracket was tough. Now they are made for both sides.
  14. "Very hard to estimate complete builds"......If you don't estimate complete builds, or bid on complete builds, that doesn't change the fact the customer needs a number. ..."as so much changes as we go along."..... we make it up as we go along without a any kind of plan. "But I'm certainly willing to discuss anything you or he have questions about."...... so I can get you to stop asking "how much is this gonna cost??" Just a few of the thoughts that ran through my mind. I paint on the side, and pretty much bid the job and 80 percent of those jobs are completes. Either way....goood looking truck. 48D
  15. Awesome! ? Does it have a working name yet? 48D
  16. I agree.....he had a 48-50 "Dog house" and plugged it in. Personal History: First Pilot House I bought was a 1948....but...it had a 1953 bed and fenders. When I discovered what I had was wrong and the round fenders were the correct fenders for '48....I kinda flipped out, I love the those half rounds. Took me several years to find some, now I have a bunch. 48D
  17. Its been dormant for years. The information is maintained by Bob Koch. He has moved to Wisconsin from California. If it was to start up again it would be his call. This forum and the DPETCA site grew together and apart. It has been mentioned to bring the info from the DPETCA site here. But that has yet to happen, thou the information links are shared. 48D
  18. The 48-53 fenders should all be the same.... 48D
  19. I'll post pictures with the difference....lord knows I have enough laying around...lol update: posting images is a task for me when using video from my phone! This all I have for now....the 1st is Fluid Drive, 2nd image is without. 48D
  20. Will need FD pedals too....fluid drive pedals are different than the standard pedals. 48D
  21. As I understand it, the "Job Rated" era is from 39-47, and liberal usage by the builders (and customers) was on going for years. It was a Dodge created term, so I imagine they had no problem when a designer who wanted to put "job rated" somewhere on the truck. 48D
  22. Abandoned 1950 Dodge Pilothouse truck will it start and drive? Had a great time watching this video....kudos to the maker and man. 48D
  23. I had an old mentor tell me to have a tool box full of cheap tools "to loan to your friends...." ....that way, you keep'em away from the good stuff, and still be friends. I'm sure Dodgeb4ya has a wall of "special tools" in case I come around askin'.....you know, to keep me away from the good wall. lol 48D
  24. Theory?? Theory??? Well I don't live everywhere in the country...so maybe I'm just "lucky" enough to be surrounded by asphalt roads....lol. Merle is right...potholes still exists, my point was that it was designed for less forgiving roads than today, and aren't as critical as they would have been to a guy haulin' milk cows. The guy haulin' a folding chair and ice chest won't need to be spot on with the spring tension. Either way, get them tight enough to stay together. 48D Editors note: Merle and I have known each other personally for many years....he's super smart and I have a lot of old dodge trucks.
