The springs are designed to let the frame flex when driving down the normal oiled country roads of the 1950's, and not tear up the gas tank. But since those days for the most part are behind us and our trucks.....just get the tension tight enough to keep the nuts in place and don't bee hittin' the potholes. 48D

Here's a link to a forum member who is just now finishing his 53 truck on a Dakota frame. He has multiple posts on his progress, but they are not linked together,so its hard to follow. The link gives you all the pictures, but you'll have to search his forum name for the commentary. His build would apply to all B series trucks 48-53. His forum name is "Buds Truck". Buds Pics for 1953 Dakota build. 48D

1951-53 have a lip/ridge on the hood halfs. 1951-53 have the wiper arms mounted wider than the 48-50 1953 is the only year with the "square" rear fender The truck appears to have the 5 lug nut rim (not the lug bolt) which would make it at least a 3/4 ton truck...not a 1/2 ton. The grille badge is 51-53 The bumper is 51-53 because of the molded center for the licence plate 48-50 did not have the center of the bumper "shaped" The body line on the door stops half way across on 51-53 48-50 had that door body line go completely across 1 tons typically had longer beds, which can be seen by the space between the rear cab to the front of the rear fender..... Without the right angle, from what I see...the gap is wide enough to make it a 1 ton. 48D

Had a great time with you guys "KenandBecky".....lol. As always, its a bunch of fun and this time around I'm getting a drone! See if I can catch all the weeds I missed! @Adams: Well geez, that explains the funny looking kid on a wagon who stopped by my place and said "yo, I'm from Mars, Plymouthy sent me...smile." 48D -
"Dodge may have used a small child with a tack hammer to strike the number die, as the stamps are often shallow, and may be hard to find." This could not be a truer statement, lol. 48D

48Dodger replied to 48Dodger's topic in Mopar Flathead Truck Forum
I bought a guy out of his truck parts and have been moving said parts all week. He's a forum member so I'll keep to myself about his story, but I'm just glad he called me so I can keep doing my part to keep the interest in old Dodge Trucks alive! I'm on my way to pick up the last few things including two L-6 engines. GOOD LUCK ? EVERYONE!!! 48D -

International Work On Your Truck Day (IWOYTD) 10th Annual
48Dodger posted an event in Community Calendar
Good Luck!!! 48D -
#BER TEN!!!!! NUMBER 10!!!!! Freakin' #10 IWOYTD!!! This year it will be on MAY 15th The Five Rules: 1. Work on your truck. Not Brent's, but yours...unless you are Brent, then work on your truck buddy. Its not done. you need at least a 10 footer burnout. 2. Report what you did to the Forum, not the girl at the post office, she doesn't care, she's just trying to get the junk mail sent out. 3. Post a picture of what you did. Its all good, sitting in it counts.....but at least hold a hammer or something. 4. Explain how you got the truck, what inspires you about it. 5. Try to share the days experience as soon as you can!!! Sharing is caring!!!.....Believe it or not, your story could inspire one of us to get back to it! Your story could help build another truck!!! Good luck!!!! PLAN FOR THE DAY!!! 48D

14th Annual Clements Tailgate, in Clements California BBQ
48Dodger replied to 48Dodger's topic in Mopar Flathead Truck Forum
Thank you everyone for the best time of the year!!! I'll sort the pictures I have and post them soon. I was looking at Brent's (Brentb3b) burnout and realized there's no way to save it, so I took a few more pictures for my own memories of Gary. I'm working on a collage of past pictures to give his wife. She contacted me before the show and wished everyone a good time and wants to see the pictures of this BBQ. Ed......next trip to Minnesota, I'll hand the stainless steel grille bars over.....BUT you owe me a trip to the BBQ before there are no more!!!!!! Thanks to Kevin(Bluzhog53) for bringing the bitchin' ride he won....AND for the excellent sound system.....you are awesome, my friend! I have admired Charlie's(51Hemi) truck for years. He shows up just about every year and helps knock out the tough stuff weeks before the BBQ. After so many years of being a true friend, it was time to crown his truck "Best Of Show"!!! and yeah, its got a Hemi"! Jim Shepard (Jim Shepard) is the best. He's been a good friend for so long and really the first contact I had with a real Pilot House Era truck. And the long distant travelers.....Oregon, Minnesota, Southern Cal, Nevada....and any I missed. You guys humble me, thank you. I'm just getting older and richer with all my truck buddies.....I appreciate you all. The plan my wife and I agreed to is, 20 BBQ's......there will be only 6 more Tailgate BBQ's! Hope to see you at one soon! Tim aka 48Dodger -
