  1. Hi All, I have my spare three speed with overdrive all torn down and am starting to get in the replacement parts. I took some photos of all the parts. In the event that anyone would like some reference photos, I decided to post them. The painted case is the one I cracked 15 years ago. It could be welded, but I found a NOS one to use. If anyone has a OD Planet assembly with stripped out gears I would love to get it and see if I can get the shield off nice and if one can get the pinions out of it. If a method can be found to do this then going to some gear makers may we worth the effort to be able to rebuild the pinion (planet) units. James

  2. Correct, any decent auto paint supplier should be able to do this, be prepared for what I call “modern labor “ meaning, some possible attitude from the counter guy heming and hawing about how tedious and time consuming it will be, they’re not used to dealing with walk ins but usually big account body shops that are usual customers, be steadfast and patient, some might be busy and want you to drop it off, be prepared for that, but make sure it’s exactly what you want when they give that final spray out, hopefully you’ll find some car people call in the evening if you have any questions. 3. I was the paint matcher for SW here in Tulsa in the 90’s, I’m incredibly disappointed in your local paint shops customer service, paint is custom mixed and matched everyday at any decent paint store, it’s not that difficult No paint codes that originally were lacquer are transferable to modern materials, they all have to be custom mixed either starting with a scanner or just an experienced employee but it’s not that big of a deal, it’s done every single day You don’t need a giant panel to take for a match, any decent shop can work with something the size of your gas door on your minivan, as long as the color is clear, if it’s faded, polish it out with cleaner wax (Meguires) once it’s mixed then they spray it out on a piece of thick paper taped to a stir stick to compare, this sample is submitted for your approval and any changes are made until you’re happy and head out the door Call some shops in Cincinnati before driving out there, discuss their particular process for your needs, if you need, pick a shop and I’ll talk to them. 4. Just a different design between manufacturers. Nothing to worry about. However, it makes it very important to get your sprocket and chain set from the same supplier because of this. Another member here discovered this recently when he got a miss matched set and the chain wouldn't work properly with the sprockets.

  5. So, I got her home! Truck is solid, rust here and there but not a total rust bucket. Frame is 100%. the story is it spent it’s entire life on a cranberry farm in Massachusetts . Odometer says around 26,000 miles. I guess I have to assume it’s 126,000 but I’m not so sure given how it was used. Maybe it’s only 26,000? Last transfer Station sticker on it was 2014 so it was probably on the road then. Guy I got it from bought it in 2016 but never moved forward with the project he had planned for it. He actually posted a couple times on here. It had a dump body on it, but I want to put a stake side flatbed on it so I didn’t take it. I kept all the dump mechanism, maybe will make it a dump flatbed. I actually got it fired up today- but it’s not running great and is blowing air and fuel out of the carb. Zero compression on two cylinders so my assumption is sticking Intake valves. Stay tuned!

  6. Here’s mine, faded 1970’s paint, pulled off a chunk and waxed the heck out of it for the match, had them add a little flattener to it to knock down the gloss, it’s still glossy of course but you just have to scuff it a little to match, you can see the rear fender is repainted, waiting to be scuffed up. Again the matching process works for any paint new or old and can be properly executed with time by a skilled professional

  7. That's what I did with similar grill mount bolts on our D24. Easy enough to accomplish, good results. The ones that I could get to the back of, I didn't tack. I usually keep in mind that factory fasteners are designed for ease of use on the production line, sometimes shade-tree solutions can work just as well, if not better, if one is not too worried about originality.

  9. Have you heard of Alpha Gal? It is a condition, often brought on by tick bites, that makes a person become allergic to red meat and generally all mammal products (dairy, gelatin, things like suger that are processed with charcoal made from bone) It is very hard to diagnose because the reaction is offset by 4-12 hours. Only allergy to do that, and many Dr.s have never heard of it, so won't test for it. Blood test is only moderately accurate. Each type of mammal has its own variant of protein, so not everyone is sensitive to every type of meat Easiest way to test: document all the food you eat for a few days. Try to avoid all mammal products. Look for products labeled Vegan, then add chicken or fish to them. Do you feel better? If you accidentally, or on purpose, eat some red meat, see if the next day you have an episode. I struggled with this starting in 2013. It took me a year in a half to figure out what was wrong with me. Got so bad my wife wouldn't let me drive- I would nod off so randomly. Dr. said I needed to get more sleep, everything was fine. I was 28, sleeping 10+ hours and drinking 2 pots of coffee a day, and still taking 1 or 2 naps. I had lost 50#, and most of my friends though I was dying. We are a strict diet until mid 2020, when I found and tried a treatment for it that worked. To well, you may say, as I put back on that 50#. SAAT or Solomon's treatment. https://alternativemedicinecenter.info/soliman-auricular-allergy-treatment-saat/ Perhaps you can find someone in your region that is certified to do it. Good luck, message me if you have any questions

  10. On my P15 I was able to weld some short carriage bolts in the grill bars. On some of the tighter spots I had to slice the bracket to get the bolt in.

  11. Not sure if the Desoto and Chrysler have the same configuration for the brake return spring but if yours looks like the spring in the picture I added here, than it might be 8 1/16" long. My clutch return spring is 9 7/8" long

  12. Cheesy, thanks for all that info. I'll probably take better care of the old girl now. Pretty sure it was given to me many years ago but I can't remember by whom.

  14. I came to the conclusion a few days ago that a complete respray of everything except the interior and engine compartment is the only workable approach. This approach will also allow me to fix a few things that 21 years ago weren't higher on the priority list, mainly the two angle strips that are fastened to the inside of the bed walls. The originals were somewhat chewed up but still serviceable if need be and at the time I had no idea where to source replacements or if they were even available. Now that I have all of the correct bed rails in hand I might as well install them properly which means painting them as well. My only real desire or requirement now is to at least get the exterior color to be a reasonably close match to the interior. The sample I have from PPG isn't even close. I don't expect to hear anything back from the painter for a few days or more on the search for matching paint. He's currently occupied with painting the bumpers and a few other misc. parts black. If I have any hope of making it to Clements I need to get the painting issue resolved soon!

  18. The longer Lyme goes untreated, the worse its effects. I went to urgent care for a cortisone shot in my knee, the nurse saw a red rash on my arm and automatically treated me for possible lyme. When we got home we found the bulls eyed mark on my shoulder. Lyme longevity is unknown, it can reappear years after first infection is ‘overcome’. Not good!

  19. I’ve lurked and read in the background for some time and y’all have been very helpful in the few questions I’ve asked. Figured it was time enough to share a photo. Front end back together and for it on the ground. Found a generic fuel tank plug for the drain from autozone. Not perfect, but gets me going. We got it started and running the other day. Now it won’t crank. That’s all I need to get in out of the garage!

  21. resolutions are not promises to oneself, they are thought out plans of mice and men...acknowledgement of things you wish to accomplish...if you look at it any other way you bound for disappointment why I never set a timeline for a car...I measure my progress by what I call mile markers...each segment broken down and yes, usually on a check list...many times the shop will not get straightened till I have reach that marker and can put this behind me along with the tools I used. Organized chaos works well here. Computer got hit by lightening last night.....am on back up now and will pick up my new tower today. This started out as a gentle rain then blam out of nowhere this massive storm blows through in just a couple minutes..even the street light went off after it passed.

  23. Do not remove the gland nut with the sender bulb stuck in it. If the sender bulb will not easily pull out of the gland nut remove the small soft plug above the sender and wedge the sender bulb out with a wide screw driver.
