My Build Card from the Chrysler Museum  told me my D-24 was from a dealer in White Plains NY.  It's been years but I finally found something ( Ebay ) to connect my Dodge to that Dealership.

 

Still, I'll be searching Hershey for a badge or plate frame from this dealer.

My 1952 Plymouth came from a dealer in Manitowoc, Wi. The original dealership is gone but apparently the franchise still exists today. I did find the obituary of the original owner on line.  From what I could tell the car spent it’s entire life in central and northern Wisconsin until it came to Illinois in around 2000 or so.

Yeah I ended up in Connecticut I bought it from a friend of mine he bought it from someone in Connecticut my ownership is by far the longest.

 

There is still a Dodge dealership in White Plains not by the same name but in the same location.

The shipped to dealer is not necessarily the sold by dealer. My build sheet lists Bryden Motors in Beloit,WI, but I know for a fact my dad purchased it new from Boulevard Motors in Marshfield,WI. My aunt was the office manager.

I am fortunate to know the original dealerships that both of my 1938 cars came from. In British Columbia Canada, Begg Motors was BC’s very first automobile dealership. They had a branch in Vancouver BC where my ‘38 Chrysler was sold. Jump on a ferry across the Georgia Strait (a considerable feat) in 1938 to Vancouver Island. There was a Begg Motors in Victoria BC also. 
 

My cars lived in those areas for all those years until I came along. I drove and ferried to Victoria to buy and load up my 1938 Plymouth.  I found the “Begg Motors Victoria” dealership badge nailed down on the engine wall down by the shifter knob base. 
 

A couple years later I hauled a trailer to Vancouver BC to pick up my 1938 Chrysler.  I found another Begg Motors badge in the same place. This badge said “Vancouver” location on it.  
 

Both cars reside now in an arid area of BC’s southern interior. In my care. 
 

If I win the lottery I’ll get a DeSoto, and Dodge. Maybe a truck too. Build my own replica Begg dealership. Couple old of gas pumps outside. A showroom for them all. Wouldn’t that be awesome.?
 

Here is a photo of the actual old Begg dealership in Vancouver back in the day. These old things still make me giddy.  Money and common sense are the only things holding me back. Lol. 

Good chance one of the mechanics in this photo prep’d my Chrysler, after is arrived on the train from Windsor Ontario.

This is the text of the email I sent to her in Feb of 2022

"Are you still fulfilling requests for vehicle specific data that Chrysler Historical once provided?"

This is the text from her e-mail to me:
"Thank you for contacting the Stellantis Historical Archives. At this time, we would like to thank you for being patient with us while we work through our backlog of requests with a limited staff and partial office hours.

To order a build record, please provide us with the information on our order form, which is attached. A copy of the title, registration, or notarized bill of sale is suitable. There are no exceptions to this policy. All orders will be answered in the order they were received and sent in the first quarter of 2022. A high resolution PDF copy of the build record will be emailed to you to help speed up the process.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter. We look forward to assist you with requests."

 I received an E mail of mine in 2023. A letter gave the selling dealer info

Ditto LazyK's comment.  Our D24 was delivered to Las Cruces, NM, but was sold from Carlsbad Motors in Carlsbad, NM.  Which is still there, at the same place.  When we lived there, the original building was still there, with a new one next to it, and the same family still owned it.  We actually met the retired salesman who most likely sold our car at a car show in Carlsbad in 1998 or so, shortly after we moved there.  He was Carlsbad Motors' Dodge guy in '48.  The owners were nice enough, we already had the build sheet and some other paperwork that was in the car that led us to Carlsbad, but they still had ALL of their sales records and found the information on our car pretty quickly.  The owners were rather enthusiastic about it, but not enough to give us a "loyalty" discount on a new car...

My '48 build card showed delivery to Mineola before being sold to my great grandfather in Temple...he did not travel far from Bell County, so the idea that he would go truck shopping nearly 200 miles away does not jive.  There may have been an incentive program for purchasing in bulk back in the day so that the factory would not be burdened with excess inventory...one regional dealer might make a deal to take on inventory,  then get on the horn to local dealers to let them know they have product to sell...the sales game can be a shifty juggling act, if that movie Fargo is any indication of some of the shenanigans that them fellas were capable of perpetuating  :cool:

Did dealer trading exist like it does now? Maybe the local dealership didn't have the specific truck so they started calling around to find one

Dealer trading has been a thing for a long time afaik as the dealer network was all about moving product from the factory and off the lot, not just vehicles but also repair parts and supplies, as the ebb and flow of supply and demand varied regionally.  A more recent example was when Dad went to buy the QuadCab back in 2001: the dealer in Temple drove a dark red 2500 out to San Angelo over 200 miles away and came back with the silver beast out front that is a few ticks shy of 250k.

 

I recall Dad negotiating the price and wanted to know just exactly was involved with the $500 dealer prep and got some song and dance about cleaning the vehicle, installing floor mats, etc...of course the first stop we made from the dealer was to get diesel as the fuel gauge barely moved off of E when he went to start it, Dad said something to the salesman about how come filling it up wasn't part of that dealer prep charge and the salesman shrugged and walked back inside on that boiling hot August afternoon.  We got the truck home and are checking out this new buggy, I'm looking under the seats and said "hey I found another feature of that high-dollar dealer prep charge", Dad looks over and sees me produce an empty Fritos bag...he gotta li'l salty but eventually was amused...I think he even called that salesman to ask'm if he wanted it back 😁

My 1951 DeSoto S15-2 has two original bumper stickers, one says:

 

    Berning Garage Inc.

         Dodge

    Reedsburg, WI

 

The other one says:

   POPE BARABOO

 

I bought the car 35 years ago from someone in Reedsburg.

I am also lucky enough to know the original dealerships of my C38 and D25 up here in Canada. I can't find any information about either one though, maybe someone here may have some info. I even have the original service agreement dated in 1948 for the D25 with purchasers name and address

my car has a chrome nameplate on the lower left of the trunk.   "Johnnys   Oaklyn New Jersey". not there anymore. i lived on long island when i first got my 54 chrysler and wanted to take the car there, but no point now. i would like to take it to a drive in, but those are mostly gone the way of the old dealerships.    dennis
