Plymouthy Adams Posted June 19, 2020 Report Posted June 19, 2020 how can I fix this...tape....? Seems that is the applied method...how did this turn out for you? Quote
Sniper Posted June 19, 2020 Report Posted June 19, 2020 Many places sell new ones, Bernbaum's for instance. 1 Quote
laynrubber Posted June 20, 2020 Report Posted June 20, 2020 (edited) I have seen one regular awhile back on EBay. I made mine out of .032 aluminum....wasn’t quick. Someone here if I recall rebuilt theirs with fibreglass. Edited June 20, 2020 by laynrubber Quote
plymouthcranbrook Posted June 20, 2020 Report Posted June 20, 2020 I rebuilt mine on my 52 by coating it with fiberglass cloth and after a modest sanding painted it satin black. Although I believe I had more to work with than you do. 1 Quote
MarcDeSoto Posted June 20, 2020 Report Posted June 20, 2020 (edited) This brings back some old memories of working on my first car, a 1950 Chrysler Windsor. I was working on the engine and resting my left hand of the heater box, when Wham! my hand broke through the box. I think I jury rigged it with cardboard and duct tape. Now of course they sell re-pops. I couldn't fin Andy Bernbaum's heater box, but I did find this one on Ebay. Not cheap. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Air-Duct-Chrysler-DeSoto-6cyl1949-1950-1951-1952-OrigStyle-install-ready/272832648001?hash=item3f8617d341:g:XZ0AAOxyNDxRYWvw Edited June 20, 2020 by MarcDeSoto 1 Quote
Sniper Posted June 20, 2020 Report Posted June 20, 2020 About 2/3 the way down, half the price of the Ebay one https://www.oldmoparts.com/parts-body.aspx 2 Quote
MarcDeSoto Posted June 21, 2020 Report Posted June 21, 2020 thanks, Sniper! Bernbaum's looks like the way to go for this one. 2 Quote
Worden18 Posted June 21, 2020 Report Posted June 21, 2020 I taped mine with black duct tape, but it wasn't in terrible shape so it worked well. Any worse and I would've had to find a better solution. 1 Quote
Ron175 Posted June 21, 2020 Report Posted June 21, 2020 Mine was in pretty good shape but one of the heater hoses had worn a hole in it. I tried patching it in various ways -even tried papier mache, but it ended up looking worse! I’m going to use fibreglass with resin to repair it properly this week. I’ll let you know how I get on! 1 Quote
bluefoxamazone Posted June 22, 2020 Report Posted June 22, 2020 made one out of fibreglass and polyester resin. Still works as a charm.... 1 Quote
