The news is still grim.  Jaiden is still in a coma.  She has a strain of streptococcal meningitis that the doctors have never seen before, and she has no antibodies to combat it.  They have to cure the meningitis before they can work on anything else.  Although her vital signs are now good, we do know she has some brain damage from the swelling.  Rather frustrating that once they seem to make headway, something else crops up, seems like every time I get an update, its something different.  When she had meningitis 5 1/2 years ago, she was in a coma for almost 6 weeks, so I'm not overly worried about that, its all the other stuff.  Everyone's thoughts, well wishes, and prayers are still immensely appreciated.

If they've never seen it, then they will work harder to find a cure. A new challenge, is a great motivator.

Very invigorating to know that you'uns are keeping Jaiden in your prayer list, it is greatly appreciated.  An update - clinically she is OK, the infection is cured, but it caused significant brain damage and she is currently in a "semi-vegetative" state.  There are small victories here and there which continue surprise the specialists, but there is a long, long road to any kind of recovery.  She is currently in rehab to prepare her (and her family) for going home.  (She got a 4-hour pass to go home for Thanksgiving.)  Unfortunately, if she doesn't improve significantly over the next year, she only has a 2-5 year life expectancy, so those thoughts and prayers are more important than ever.  So, when you hear folks dissing meningitis vaccines, this would be an example of why they would be beneficial.  It's a hard call, flu-like symptoms were the initial indication.  Lethargy / unresponsiveness is almost too late, (in Jaiden's case- it was too late), but that is when to get to the emergency room 10-minutes ago.  They can only diagnose which strain of meningitis to treat for through a spinal tap, but they can treat the symptoms for survival until then.

Glad to hear about the small victories. for us that have been praying, they're not a surprise. I know you started out saying you not a praying man,..... Might be the time to be one, if you haven't been. Not preaching.... Just saying ;^)

Give her a hug from me please ( real tight)

Thank for the update, back to praying for her and you...... :^)

Sad to report that Jaiden died in her sleep this morning.  She had been doing well with the continuing small successes.  She'd been home since April, and was even well enough that the family was on a Make-a-Wish trip to Disneyland when it happened.  The Give Kids the World facility in Kissimmee and Make-a-Wish are awesome, they are taking good care of the family even now.

Very sorry to read this Dan. Sounds like she loved and more importantly, knew she was loved! (And, by someone more than us)

Since I'm not close enough to give you a hug, I just hugged my granddaughter real tight  (from me to you brother) still praying for your family  :)

Such sad news.  Every time you've made a post, I've thought or her and wondered how she was doing.  Our family knows all too well what you're going through with the loss of a grandchild.  We'll visit the cemetery in a couple of weeks and send some balloons aloft in remembrance, gone for three years on Dec 15 and again in January for two more who will have been gone for a year on the 19th.  We take what comfort we can in remembering the time we had together, the moments that made us smile or laugh and they remain in our thoughts each and every day.

I know there are no words that can describe the loss, or the pain, or the empty feeling.  I've been trying for two days to put this post together, as poorly as I have, with words you could relate to, maybe draw some comfort from, as much for me as for you.  The tears still fall freely, even as I write this, and hope they always will.  Prayers for you and your family in the hard days to come.

Thank you all very much.  We're leaving for Texas tomorrow morning so we can be there when they return from Florida on Thursday.  If they left before Thursday, they wouldn't have been able to take Jaiden back with them.  Services probably wont be for another week - we're planning a celebration rather than mourning, that's what Jaiden, who only brightened everyone's day, only had nice things to say, and never met anyone she didn't like would want.  Dave, your message is written well enough, it helps.  We all think we're some measure of tough, especially with a job like mine, then things like this happen.  We can take comfort that we had our time with our loved ones, our lives would certainly be different if we hadn't.  Death is inevitable, its a mandatory part of life, although it's timing is often unwelcome.
