BobT-47P15 Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 Well, today 8/31, was my last official day at work. Tomorrow, I will be available to perhaps take up some new, interesting job in my retirement status. Maybe a limo driver of this 57 Chevy stretch in Branson.... Possibly a salesman for this product. Then, again, probably too much work explaining the difference between it and a certain other item. (I had been told on previous occasions I did not know the difference.) Or, how about maybe I could become a famous outdoors photographer. (Now, which way do I need to hold this camera???) Will just have to wait and see what develops, I guess. Meanwhile, maybe I can tinker with the Plymouth. Quote
greg g Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 Congratulations, welcome to six Saturdays and a Sunday. Since retirement my wife and I have been to Yellowstone and site in between, Ireland, Maui, now giving thought to going to Spain then taking a tour through Europe. I would stay away from that Shinola job, Perhaps a blues harp camp...... If you ever get a hankering to travel to the Northeast you have an open invitiation in Syracuse. Quote
randroid Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 Bob, You struck me years ago as one of the 'Old School' kind of Gentlemen after whom I have always tried to model my work ethic and my goals. You have given your hours to those who have given you a paycheck to do so, and now you have yourself to give freely as you choose. I don't know if it would be better to envy you or congratulate you so I'll do neither. It's going to be more fun just to watch you in action. Nice going, Dude! -Randy Quote
RobertKB Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 Congratulations, Bob. Retirement is the best job you will ever have. I always say that and I think Normspeed would agree as well. One thing I want you to do......make a point of remembering the first time you say or think, "How did I ever get everything done when I was working?" It will take a while but I guarantee the thought will cross your mind. As Greg said, enjoy your six Saturdays and a Sunday. Believe it or not, you will still be busy! Welcome to the club! Quote
grey beard Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 Bob, Congratulations on your retirement. Something no one ever speaks about is that when you continue working after you could quit, each day is one you will NOT enjoy in retirement, so I applaud your good taste. The down side of retirement is . . . . . . you can never quit! Enjoy life. Hope you have some grandkids to help you celebrate it. If I'd known how good grandchildren were, I'd have had them FIRST! Merle Coggins Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 The down side of retirement is . . . . . . you can never quit! Unless you're Brett Favre. Quote
Dennis Hemingway Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 Congratulations on your retirement. Welcome to the retirement world. Enjoy it and have fun. Dennis:cool: Quote
1940plymouth Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 Bob, After working in the NYS prison system for just over 30 years, I retired six and a half years ago this month. I have enjoyed myself to the fullest. I work part time for the town in the winter time as a wingman on the snow plows. Something completely different than what I did for a living. By the way, I think you would look great behind the wheel of that strech '57 Good luck in retirement, Bob Quote
Young Ed Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 Bob congrats. I must say I looked at the picture first and thought you went out in style and hired that limo to drive you away from work on your last day. Now that would have been an exit! Quote
greg g Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 But unlike Brett you gotta be careful out there, Apparently he got a booboo in his last game and is now questionable. I guess craked ribs take a long while to heal when you "older". Quote
PatS.... Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 Congrats Bob! This aint a VCR, there's no rewind button, make every day count. Quote
40phil41 Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 Congratulations Bob. I retired early at age 54. The last 6 years of retirement have been great. We will be celebrating our 40th wedding anniv. next year. All the best, Phil Quote

Anyway , can't really add much that hasnt already been said but , enjoy it to the fullest ! If your looking for something part time ....i could use a bodyman to restore my 47 ? Interested ? ...Let me know .. Mike Quote
Normspeed Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 Good for you Bob. Enjoy every minute of it. I'll give you the same warning that Grandadeo gave me though...Once you retire, you never get a day off. Quote
Don Coatney Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 As I see it you will be spending less time on this forum as now nobody will be paying you to spend time here. It is the working guys who spend time here. Look at Normspeed. He retired and disappeared for several months. Norms Coupe although not officially retired spends time here because he never ventures past the end of his driveway anyway. Tim Adams and Young Ed are working and spend all day here but they are paid to do so. I am stuck in a no-tell motel with nothing to do in the evenings so that is when I spend time here. There is a whole group of Caniadian guys who are on here daily and must be paid to do so as they are still working. That is my story and I am sticking to it. Quote
JohnS48plm Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 Congrats Bob, Retiring was the best decision I ever made. We travel, I golf 2 days a week or more if I can, work on old cars, and what ever else I can get away with. It's been 2 1/2 years but seems like 2 1/2 minutes. Enjoy yourself and live life to the fullest. JohnS Quote
55 Fargo Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 Congrats and Happy Retirement Bob, all the best for you and the family...... Quote
wldavis3 Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 Congratulations, Bob. Best wishes to you in your retirement. I hope to get there one day, too. Quote
Captain Neon Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 Don' date='We do make it past the end of the driveway. After the wife got home from church Sunday, we hopped in my car and drove about 120 miles for lunch at Curley's, at Lambeau field. Did a tour of Lambeau and the Packers Hall of Fame, then headed home. Stopped on the way home and had dinner. That's about 240 miles on Sunday just for that. Didn't get home until around 8:30 PM.[/quote'] Now you understand what I mean when I mention "going for a beer and a steak." Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted September 2, 2009 Author Report Posted September 2, 2009 Thanks for all the good wishes, guys. Today, just to start things off, I went to lunch with my wife and a group of her high school classmates, who are planning their 50 year class reunion at the end of Sept. Two guesses who is playing the music for their Satrday night dance -- yep, Max and I. Max played for their dances back in the late 50s when these folks were still in high school. He just turned 73 and is still going strong...... We also have booked 50th reunions for the class of '59 from Joplin, and neighboring Carthage, MO. Many of whom used to go to area dances Max played. After the meeting, I wandered a few doors down the street to a music store just to look around at all their vintage stuff. The day went by pretty quickly. In the music field, we just try to go with the flow, as they say. Hey, if it's St Patty's Day, we'll wear green hats. Guess that's show biz. So, you see, I still have a part time job. Quote
Niel Hoback Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 Congrats Bob, welcome to the good life. This is what life is all about. Quote
