So sorry to hear about your pall. Pets are mans best friends and all they ask for is your love and affection. May your beautiful puppy be in doggy heaven and I know he will be in your heart forever. Jon

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Here's a wonderful little poem that I just found on the Internet and it says it all to you Don. We lost our pet cat Blacky a few months ago and I still think of her and how important a part she was in our family life. So here is the poem and may it bring a little happiness into your life at this time in your time of loss.

Dear Lord

Have You a Pet in Heaven

HAVE YOU A DOG IN HEAVEN? Have you a dog in Heaven, Lord?

And do you pat its head?

Does he sit up and beg each night

before he goes to bed?

Does he look up with shining eyes

when he sees Your smilling face?

Does he wag his stubby little tail

when he wants to run a race?

Have You a dog in Heaven, Lord?

Is there room for just one more?

Cause my little dog died today;

he'll be waiting at Your door.

Please take him into Heaven, Lord.

And keep him there for me,

just feed him, pet him,l ove him, Lord,

thats all he'll ask of Thee.

Sorry to hear that Don, it is always hard especially when you have to do it. I lost my 2 black labs (brother & sister) a year apart a while ago, had them for 14yrs. brought them home (Picked the wife up from work with the kids) from the pound one day in a box in the back of the van, the kids knew they were their and no one told momma and the whole 60 mile trip home not a peep from them, then when we got home the kids told her to get the box out of the van, she about had a cow when she opened the box and saw the two furballs looking up at her. she grew to love them.

When I started reading this thread I knew someone would post this. I break down every time I read it. I've lost a good dog or two in my time. I feel for you Don.

Sorry for the loss, Don. I know that trip, and the trip home without them.

It's tough, they are so trusting.

Thanks everybody. Micks last ride was in my P-15. He could no longer jump up into the back seat of my pickup. So Lisa and I took him to the Vet in my car. He always enjoyed trips in my car. I will miss him.

Don, we can certainly sympathize with you. Through the years we have lost many good dogs, our last loss was a l9 year old that had to be put down. We have many times lamented the fact that dogs don't live long enough.

Don,

Sorry to hear about losing your dog. I know how you feel. We had to put ours down in spring 2001, after having her for only 10 years. It's like losing a member of your family. Like others said though, he is in a better place now.

It's just a stupid dog.

I hear that from people who have never had one. It's amazing how close you can get to a dog or cat. I felt closer to my dog of 16 years than my wife that would be my ex wife (now gone to parts unknown).

A little OT: What's the difference between a wife and a dog? Put them both in the trunk of your car - drive around the block - and the dog will be happy to see you when you open the trunk lid. :D

And every time I lose a dog I swear I'm never going to get another one. They are sort of like old cars - they just keep showing up. 2 dog, 2 cats, 2 Plymouths. NO MORE.

Sorry for your loss Don. When I lost my Irsh Setter, Red, I felt it more deeply than any woman that I have ever lost. He use to set in the back of my car with his head on my shoulder. Sometimes when I drive I can still feel it there. I'll bet you have a lot of similar memories and maybe they will ease the pain. It's all worth it. Frank

You have my condolances, Don. I know all too well how it feels to lose a pet. They really are part of the family. Maybe sometime soon you will get a new puppy and give it the nice home your former dog had.
