  2. The Driver side front door on my 48 Plymouth will not stay open. All the other doors on the car do not have this problem. Is there an adjustment that will correct this problem?
  3. When I was searching for replacement grommets for my headliner bows, I bought grommets from McMaster Carr. The ID of the center hole was too small. I tried freezing and drilling them. No workie! Then I tried a long diamond bur in a Dremel tool and it easily enlarged the hole to perfect size.

  5. Yep, that's where they attach. I crawled under the car just now, and there are caged nuts located on the vertical aspect of the floorboard, just forward of the gas tank and they are 28" apart. Apparently the bolts sheared off in the holes when the seat back was last removed. I'll have to drill those out (should be fun!). They line up perfectly with the holes in the fiberboard trunk separator. Since no one can tell me what the purpose of the holes mentioned in my original post and I have no need for them, I will put some rubber plugs there as Tom Skinner suggested.
  6. Bingo! I had never thought about the seat back being bolted to the floor, but went up in the attic where the frame for mine sits, and sure enough there are two tabs to bolt it to the floor. I haven't gone under the car to see if there are caged nuts below the holes, but am expecting they are there. Thanks for all the help guys! edit: Well, scratch that. The tabs in the seat back are 28" apart and the holes in the floor are only 18" apart. The search continues!!?
  7. Could seatbelts have been installed with only one hole on each side?
  8. My guess is it was for a speaker. In those days there was no stereo, so no need for two.

  10. I'm finishing up covering the floor with sound deadening and got to this place below where the back seat goes. What is this hole for? I'm assuming I should not cover it up.
  11. Today I have been installing new grommets for hanging the headliner bows. Although there are only 6 bows per side, there appear to be 7 "grommet holes" per side. Anybody else make this discovery and if so, how did you figure out which ones to use?

  14. Sam, my gaskets came from Steele. They fit pretty well and at 15 years old I was surprised to find them still pliable today.
  15. Well, I got them out. For anyone who needs to do this, here is how to do it. First remove the garnish molding screws. The window gasket must be removed along with the window, so I used a small plastic "pry bar" type tool to separate the rubber from the body on the outside. Then the pivot mechanism needs to be disassembled or the window can't be lifted out once it's loose. Finally, just push the window from the outside at the top and it will tilt inward and can be removed from the inside. This process is probably intuitive to most of you, but was not to this inexperienced novice! The reason for removing the windows was to expose several headliner attachment tabs behind the top of the garnish. Installing a new headliner is my next project.
  16. Anybody recall how to remove the rear vent window on a P15? Without destroying the rubber gasket? It's been 15 years since I put these in, and I can't remember how I did it. (Not getting any younger!). Pics below.
  17. Actually the window rubber is only about 15 years old and it has been garage kept since the new glass was installed. The rear quarter windows leak like a sieve when I wash it, so they probably need to be re-sealed anyway. I'll keep working on removing them.
  18. Eneto-55, this is a biggie! I could not see those barbs because my windows are installed. Looks like I still may need a little contact cement though. Now if I can figure our how to remove them. I'm guessing I need to push to the outside. I've tried, but they won't budge. The gasket sealer on the outside may be what is holding them.

  21. That looks really nice Tim! My situation is a little different because I can't remove the garnish without removing the entire quarter window. (Mine opens) I can't imagine how you hold the headliner taut while the glue dries. Sorry about the loss of your photos and everything else due to your hard drive crash.
  22. Tim, the serrated attach strips end forward of the window. There is nothing I see to attach to above the window. Photo attached.
  23. Bingster, I'll be sure to take some photos of the process. The only video that I have found is a headliner install of a '48 Chevy, helpful but not the same attach points as a '48 Plymouth
  24. I'm about to try to tackle a WLS headliner/wind lace install on my P15 4 door sedan. Never done anything like this, and I'm a little nervous but have learned a lot from YouTube videos. The upholstery shop I was going to use has gone out of business or I would not even consider attempting it. Found that all of the tack strips have been removed from the car, so I ordered that yesterday, and I've discovered all the places it goes except for one. I can't see any way to install a tack strip above the rear quarter windows. Anybody done this install on a P15 4 door sedan and remember how the headliner attaches in that area? The garnish moulding has been attached to the window, so maybe it's hiding something to attach to? Another question: Is there supposed to be a panel board below the rear quarter window? I am planning to do the door panels, carpet - everything except for the seats. Need to find an upholstery shop for that. If anyone has a lead for one in the North Houston area, I'm all ears!
