  1. I just sold a runner 218 and 3 speed for 200 bucks. I just wanted them to go to a good home and didn't care about the dough. Like anything else, stuff is worth what someone will pay for it.
  2. I lay under mine with it running and check/adjust them. I'm 5'8 130 lbs though. Never had a problem. Get a set of go no go gauges.
  3. Yep knuckle, I'm a Duc guy 100%. Not to derail but I take my little air cooled monster to the track. I built it from a pile of crashed parts
  4. I drive my 53 Plymouth and 59 F100 almost every day. Factory everything no ptoblems. When not driving, I ride a carbureted Ducati monster 900. Once again, no problems. I think people worry too much. Just drive and enjoy it.
  5. There might be a valve to turn the hot water off so it doesn't flow through the heater. My 49 and 53 both have them. My 53 has "summer" with an arrow pointing in the direction to shut the water off on the heater box.
  6. How was it running before? If it was running good then all of a sudden started to run like crap, I'd look into possibly some debris in the carb. Easy enough to pop the top off and pull the jets and needles. Also, while the fuel line is off, crank it over to see if the pump is pumping. Make sure to put the end of the line in a container to capture the fuel. If that all checks out, move onto checking the ignition parts. Just a process of checking and eliminating stuff, you'll get it going. Good luck.
  7. Mikes carburetor parts kits are great. They include a leather accelerator pump. Buy a gallon can of berrymans carb cleaner. It has a basket you can set your parts in to let them soak. You won't need to soak them for a day or two. 15-30 minutes usually does the trick. Rinse the parts off and blow them out after they soak.
  8. Just wanted to add real quick to the sway bar option. I finally got a chance to get a few pictures. If this isn't factory, whoever installed it did a darn nice job!
  9. At one time these cars were new and people drove them every day. I still drive them every day, just saying.
  10. Big swap meet here next month. I'll find you one cheap and ship it!
  11. Kanter has complete rubber kits. Not cheap but less expensive than buying pieces here and there.
  12. I'm with Sniper and Wraith. I run 87 with whatever percentage of corn they put in. But I drive my car almost every day so the fuel never has a chance to get old. Every now and again I'll toss a little seafoam or marvel mystery oil in the tank just because. Figure a little extra cleaning or lube can't hurt. If you are going to pull the carb apart, a drop of oil or two on the accelerator pump leather helps keep it pumping. Good luck and enjoy your ride.
  13. After the time and expanse of swapping in a v8, why skimp on the rear end? Plenty of good axles out there sitting in junk yards for cheap. Perches are under 20 bucks.
  14. Check for debris in the needle and seat. Also, What is your float height set at? Might be too high.
  15. Go to your local glass shop. They should be able to use yours as a template and cut you a new one. Should replace both, modern safety glass is pretty inexpensive.
  16. How low are you on oil? Probably has nothing to do with your problem, just curious.
  17. I believe under/oversized bearings would have a number after the -SB- stating the size. I'd say yours are standard. Wouldn't hurt to mic the crank. Then there is no guessing. Good luck, you'll be on the road in no time.
  18. Wouldn't hurt to drop the pan but no guarantees that there is sludge in your motor. I just resurrected a car that has been sitting since 87. Motor was spotless, had been rebuilt not too long before being parked. Still has crosshatch in the cylinders. You never know what someone has done before you, good or bad.
  19. Cool car, congrats. You're on the right track, clean it up, little mmo down the holes and see if she cranks. Get it running then tackle the brakes. You'll be driving it in no time. Good luck and have fun.
  20. Straight pipes all the way out under the bumper really aren't that loud. Compared to the stock exhaust system, my little honda cb360 with stock pipes sounds like a roaring beast. I'm not one to have obnoxious cars and bikes. I ride Ducatis mostly and they can drown out a Harley with certain mufflers. I keep mine muffled but deep and throaty. I like hearing my motor run, especially these little flat sixes. They have a unique and distinct sound so why quiet them down to a whisper? There is a happy middle ground, just boils down to what a person wants
  21. Looks like a cool car but a lot of work. 1,000 bucks maybe if you have a title. I buy complete running or almost running cars all day for 2k. Are you here for info or just to sell it?
  22. Start out with straight pipe, no muffler. If you don't like that, throw a cheap 25 dollar cherry bomb on there. I like cherry bombs. I replace the one on my 59 f100 with a 223 about every 30k miles. Gets pretty loud. My 218 with cast headers is going straight pipe out of the back with chrome round tips. It all depends on what you want. Summit sells some cheap round glasspacks too.
  23. Limiting me as to when I can drive or where I store my car is a deal breaker. Why the limitations? My old boss used Haggerty and boy were they picky about pictures and documentation. I guess it's great for fair weather flyers but I'll stick with State Farm. I enjoy driving around the orchards and fields during warm summer nights too much. I don't get all of the restrictions.
  24. Good question, I was wondering about the warranty myself. I got one of those spam calls the other day and they said my warranty was about to expire, haha.
  25. That's too bad about the condition of the car. The right one will come up, just have to be patient. Always worth waiting for the right one. Good luck with finding one, it will happen.
