  1. Man, those headers are cool! https://images.app.goo.gl/rJAFCqCpWEst9SfDA
  2. Your car is beautiful. I live near Santa Cruz.
  3. I used Marino's Automotive Machine in Watsonville CA. Very happy with their service. Very personable. They allowed me to buy my own parts to reduce prices and allowed me to follow along with the machining process. Not sure if they're too far away for you.
  4. I have had this car for a couple years now. I'm finally in a spot where I feel comfortable in taking it on some distance drives. I rebuilt the engine In addition, I've added a 6 volt alternator and electric fuel pump to make things more reliable. Saturday we drove up to Half Moon Bay. Round trip was about 112 miles. This was a shake-down for my drive to the famous Clements Dodge truck BBQ. Average speed was around 58 mph. Got between 14-15 mpg. Drove great. No major problems. In time, I would like to use this thread to show my further exploits with this old lady.
  5. Update. Changed fuel gauge for an NOS off of eBay. Checked with spare sending unit outside the car. Works great. Test drove it with original sending unit in the tank worked fine and then started bouncing all over the place. Pulled the old unit and replaced with spare. Works great now... finally. Hard to believe both units were faulty. I also made sure the paper washers on the screws for the gauge.
  6. I had planned on doing a shake-down run in old Betsy before driving to the BBQ. Decided to do it anyways. Drove up to Half Moon Bay. 112 miles round trip. Drove great. No problems. Should be ready for 2021 ??
  7. Looks great. Where did you find those air cleaners. I like.
  8. If the 4" air filter is the culprit. I just stacked two 4"ers together. You just need a longer threaded rod to attach the cap. Might be a cheap and easy fix.
  9. I was so excited to go home and check things out. I knew that one attachment screws did not have the insulator. No luck! I Sorry to highjack the thread. Jim, put pipe plug in it and then use it to adjust your timing With a vacuum gauge.
  10. I'm having the same symptoms with my gauge. I tested the sending unit by hooking it up to a gauge on another vehicle and found that the sending unit works fine and the gauge is faulty. Not sure I if it's something that is fixable or if I need a new gauge
  11. Update. I hooked the new single wire sender up to my other Dodge (1950 truck) and it works. So I guess the gauge in the car is not working. Time to find a replacement for that.
  12. The gauge has two studs on the back. One marked SW (which I assume goes to the switch). The other is marked GA ( which I assume goes to the fuel sending unit. I'm wondering if I have a bad gauge. I will try testing the resistance tomorrow.
  13. When I bought the car (47 Dodge). The gas gauge constantly read full. I first ran a new wire from the gauge to the fuel sender. That did not fix the problem. I then bought a single wire sending unit. I wired it outside the tank to test. No movement when not grounded. When grounded it goes directly to full with no movement in between. I then bought a two wire unit and got the exact same results. I'm not sure what my problem is. Any suggestions would be appreciated
  14. Please post the the info for the clutch shop for the rest of us Californians.
  15. Looking real clean. What paint did you use on the engine? I like it. It's a little more subtle than the regular silver.
  16. Big T This is a noble endeavor. I would enjoy helping in any way. You could also look at the California Agricultural Museum in Woodland. I bet they would love to display a truck like that. Looking forward to the BBQ!
  17. My wife is lucky you're so far away ? Hopefully someone can take it off your hands. It would be a cry'n shame to scrape it.
  18. I used some dish soap, some nylon string and a wife. Install rubber on window Soap up the rubber Rap the string around the rubber Have wife hold pressure on window and seal from inside while you slowly draw the seal out and around the frame. Be careful not to pull string to hard and cut through the rubber.
  19. If all else fails. I have plenty of used ones from previous rebuilds. I can put a few in an envelope and mail them to you. Just send me a pm with your info
  20. I wonder if the Melling VL200 would work. They seem to sell them at AutoZone. They have them advertised for 0.79$. They look correct from the picture. Maybe someone more knowledgeable can verify.
  21. This may or may not help
