Old Plymouth camping trip

Well, that's one way to lower your car by 2 inches.  We don't go camping but we do try to do at least one long road trip a year. E do end up with a trunk full in the business coupe. Coleman stove, small Webber, 24 quart cooler, tool box, travel parts kit in an old picnic hamper, chairs, pop-up shelter,  couple quarts of oil, floor jack,  couple carry-on bags and some groceries. And dog supplies when out mutt came along.  Most of out trips will cover 800 to 1500 miles on blue roads on the maps. Waiting for a bit of a cooldown, and awaiting this year's p15 picnic in September.

Wish I lived closer. I’m probably 2000 miles from the event.  Also, at this point, I can’t cross the Canada/US border.

 

Looks like the kind of event I would love. Car I would bring is not a P-15 but a close relative, the Canadian Dodge D-25.

10 trips of 200 miles.  We have had several messages of interest from our neighbors to the north, Ontario and Quebec. This covid situation does throw a wrench into the cogs for our Canadian friends.  Would live to have you.  We can knock off a couple hundred miles next year and have it in the Niagara region if that helps.

Niagara region in 2021!  I like that, we will be in indianapolis mid May, 2021 for our granddaughters graduation from Kent State University.

Our most recent camping trip in the old car ended with a flat bed return to home because:

• The tools were behind the rear seat, buried under all the camping gear.
• The only place to carry the dirty spare tire cover would be in the car on top of all the camping gear (cover doesn’t stay on a deflated tire with the bead broken very well).
• Continuing home without a spare incase another tire tube failed did not seem appealing. (Turns out the failure was a tube and all the tubes in all the tires were the same brand and age.)

Other than that the trip was actually pretty nice.

 

Now if I could only figure out how to embed PeerTube hosted videos on this forum instead of posting a link, it would be great. But I think it would need the ability to use HTML in the response and I don’t see how to do that.

Wow Tod, the old Plymouth goes along really nice and smooth. It's too bad that your tire blew out but on a good note, you arrived home safely. I myself had more than my share of tube failures in my youth, 'course, some of the tires I had were really worn down?. Thanks for posting the film.

I read a book by Wm Least-Heat Moon (yeah thats his name) called Blue Highways where he traveled the country avoiding the interstate when he could. A good read. He would rated a cafe by the number of calenders on the wall. The more calenders the better the food.

Every know and then we like to take the old Dodge to our camp site when want to rough it.

To me roughing it was a tent, no toilets except the bushes (a shovel and TP).  Water from the river (later boiled as the campsites became too popular).

Fancy was bringing a piece of foam or air mattress under the sleeping bag!  At least 5-7 days worth.

Cold drinks kept in a Sack in a very cold river.

 

2-3 families with kids-great!  After breakfast--Bye mom/dad, see ya for dinner! Fishing poles, bait, stringer, we will bring back a dinner. Rainbow type that is!

 

 

Still like getting out with the old Mopar Whatever it takes these days!

Same for me. up here in Québec,,  love to go with my Plodge Crusader,, but because of the covid  the border is still close to travellers and open for commercial trafic,, it  could open aug 21,, will see what happen,,

Camping trip ,towing with my 48 Chrysler New Yorker ,as ever towed faultlessly and never missed a beat! Caravan is a 1961 Safari ,mostly made of damp cardboard but still works!

really hope to have you but, if the borders are closed, there is a potential for a few of the Canadian folks to pick up the pieces and gather above the border. I will put you in touch with the team up there and keep praying for a vaccine.
