Ulu
Thanks 'Fish. That's Baggins the Nomad. Right now she's up on jacks waiting for me to replace this output shaft bearing. Too much hot-rodding overheated the bevel gear box & fried a bearing. It's the bearing behind the big hex nut in the closeup photo. I'm checking backlash with a dial indicator there, and Hoo Boy! there was a lot of lash. (EDIT...wow, those are some crappy pics. Sorry...) Ulu
BTW, some of you guys may be poor as church mice, but some clearly have as much money as Jay Leno, judging by the cars you can afford. I'm getting a serious case of car guy envy.
Addy Lewis
Being in the Army for years, I was inspired to make this jeep into one tuff SOB. I am a hot rodder by heart. With that in mind, I lifted it only 3". I lined the inside and outside after I fabricated all the interior. I added all the bolt on engine parts I could find. It is not 100% complete yet, and I have started another build. Good times! I had to go back and add my other other ride. Polaris ACE. The wife got it for me for fathers day. 70DartMike
I'm new here but I'll play. '70 Dart Custom, 340, 727, 8 3/4 3.23 Bought it 16 years ago as an unrestored /6 driver and totally restored it myself. '67 Barracuda notch. Started life as a /6 bench seat car, but I'm restoring it as a 383, 4 speed, 8 3/4, buckets and console, etc. It's been a TON of rust repair. So far I've replaced the entire trunk, floor pans, both inner fenders, full passenger quarter, most of the drivers quarter, rockers, and window channel. Here's a pic when I bought it. Follow the link to see the restore thread on FABO. http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=249207&highlight=ugly '66 Rambler Classic 550, 232 2 bbl, Borg Warner auto. Unrestored with one repaint in early 80s. 80,000 original miles. '69 Fargo W100, 360 4 speed, 3.55s. Got it for free, it sat in the bushes for 30 years. I went through the entire truck mechanical/electrical and left the body alone. Pulled the seized 318 and dropped in a .509 cammed 360. As found, and now. '75 Ford F250, factory High Boy. 390 from a '67 GTA Fairlane, 4 speed, Danas with 4.10. I inherited it from my dad, its been incredibly reliable, as I daily drive it. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y202/screaming_nut00/1976%20Ford%20F250%20Highboy/IMG_20141212_094711_zps2s8jpyyy.jpg '75 Chevy G20 camper van, 350/350. My wife and I drove it across Canada to the eastern point in Newfoundland and back through the northern US a couple years ago. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y202/screaming_nut00/Cross%20Canada%202013/4EEABAC9-883D-47C2-A8A5-6F20F1E2CC25-266-0000002793890ED4_zpsbcb8015d.jpg I've also got some A body parts cars as well as a '64 Dodge W300 project waiting in line. As for joining this forum, I've got a '49 Fargo pickup from Saskatchewan, completely rust free, rebuilt flathead. Thanks for having me.
Dan Hiebert
Totally unfair, but I couldn't resist. Not "mine" by ownership (it belongs to all you good taxpayers out there), but I signed for it and am responsible for how and when it's used. Primarily law enforcement support operations, on which I occasionally tag along. In this thread because I "ride" in it... Aerospatiale AS-350B. Seen here at the Border Patrol's forward operating base on the Daaquam River at Maine's western border with Canada, when I had to make an inspection trip yesterday. Work is rough...
pflaming
Obviously not my ride, but someone's in Duluth, MN. Count the axles. Now maybe someone knows weight per axle and can estimate how much weight this truck can legally haul.
Ulu
. . .prefab amish built garage... Reading that, I immediately started thinking about pre-fab amish-built Chrysler woody bodies. I don't know where that thought came from, but It occurs to me that those guys spend too much time making silly chairs and tables.
Ulu
Bye Bye Bellanca! I've had quite a few adventures in this Bellanca Super Decathlon, which belonged to my buddy Dave.. Unfortunately he lost his medical, and the plane is sold, so no more sportplane Saturdays for me.

There's max weight per axle, too, but that's different in each state. Michigan's max weight is double that (one reason the roads there are always trashed), I've seen semi-trailers in Michigan with eight (8!) axles, probably because there is still a weight per axle requirement. Niel Hoback
I personally have loaded Michigan trains with steel that were restricted to a designated route from Gary to Detroit. I believe the limit was 80 tons. That was 13 years ago or more before I retired. You can still see some of them empty along US 20 in Lake and Porter county truck stops. Merle Coggins
They are also allowed on US 2 in northern WI for the U P logging trucks. US 2 loops from the Michigan U P into WI for a short stretch and then back into the U P. Other than that stretch of road WI wouldn't recognize them as a legal load/truck. plyroadking
1941 Buick 46S my childhood neighbor gave me the car. It was parked in 1956 when his grandfather blew the 2nd engine. My neighbor started fixing the car in the 19 70's, had a 1950 straight 8 rebuilt and never quite finished installing it. Eventually it got pushed back in the shed till I finally convinced him this summer to let me inherit it early. Hopefully I'll have it road ready in time for next year's driving season.
