Something to think about before succumbing to Cabin Fever. It is not too early to start planning We have it's on our calendar. I hope to see the regular travelers from this forum, and hopefully some new faces too. Been three years since the meet has been on the east side of the Mississippi River. We will likely be traveling via Canada and the Blue Water Bride or maybe the Ferry option, so Passports or enhanced drivers licenses are necessary.

Will be good to see you again, Greg. We are still working on some of the details, but I think the people will enjoy themselves. One of the car collections we have scheduled includes a Tucker (#15). This is a Non-Judged show, although we will have some special trophies. Modified Plymouths are welcome. Your right about the passports. If anyone plans to go into Canada, you MUST have a passport (or enhanced drivers license). The hotel is right on the river by the Bluewater Bridge.

Michigan and some other states have a drivers license available that has encoded information for the US border agents to be satisfied that you are a US citizen.  It's good for travel to Canada, and maybe Mexico?

My wife and I got enhanced licenses, but then I thought I lost my ID and had my license replaced.  Not wanting to waste anything, I kept my old license.  It set off red flags at the border, and my wife and I got to sit in the immigration waiting room while they checked out the facts.

It is my understanding that you can enter Canada with an enhanced drivers license but returning to the states may be a problem. When we entered Canada on the cross country trip we had do go sit in the check point even though we both had passports. I don't think they liked the fact that we lived in different states. Returning to the states was no problem at all.

Don, I don't have an enhanced license, but a lot of my friends do, and they haven't had any problems coming or going across the border. I haven't been to Canada since this went into effect, but back then (and now), most of the problems seem to come on the US side. Last time I crossed at Port Huron, we had more questions on the American side coming back. Going into Canada was no problem, even though we had handguns, shotgun, and AR-15 (all loaded). Girl at the Canadian Customs just told us "Y'all have a nice day". Must have been from southern Canada. Coming back, they wanted to know where we were born, where we had been, and where we were going. BTW, we were in a marked police car.

Great pics. Some of those cars belong to tall pines region members. We drove to the meet with some of them. The 49 in the background of the white 64 is Lanny's I believe.

Oooh!  Chalk me up for this one.  Those are all excellent venues.  We used to live in Port Huron, and we would drive the D24 up to Lexington or out to Goodels county park a few times each summer.  The farm museum is impressive.  We even stored one of our cars at the Wills-St. Claire museum a couple winters.  Besides which, our son and his family are moving back to Port Huron next month.

International travel was supposed to become easier in the western hemisphere with the "Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative", which requires a passport, passport card, or enhanced driver's license to enter the U.S. from Canada, Mexico, or the Caribbean, and the U.S. has reciprocal agreements with those nations to accept those forms of ID.  You still need a regular passport for other international travel.  If you have a valid passport already, and don't travel to those places very much, I wouldn't go through the expense of getting an enhanced drivers license (if available, mostly in border states.  An enhanced drivers license is machine readable at the inspection booths, and carries the same data as a passport.)  They are convenient if you travel to Canada, Mexico or the Caribbean a lot, so you don't have to worry about your passport.  Inspections entering Canada or the U.S. are kind of "luck of the draw" depending on the inspector you "choose".  Some are bound and determined to save the world from you, and some are actually intent on facilitating trade and travel.  Heck, I'm in a pretty lofty position in CBP, and I still get grilled half the time.

Hey Dan, glad you are interested, perhaps we can meet up and travel together from the Falls across to Sarnia. Look to be doing the ferry instead of the Bluewater. Was it you that brought up that option a while ago??? As far as inspection lanes we always choose the "wrong one". Last time I was in line behind a pick up with Texas Plates on it. Passengers and driver got hauled away, dog was brought over then we sat there for 30 minutes till a squad of inspectors went over the truck, then took it to a sequestered area. and of course folks kept piling up in the lane behind us. Including wait time it was about an hour and a half in full sun atr about 80 degrees.

Anybody else from NE, eastern NY etc planning on going we could do a caravan.

Sounds like a plan!  We'll clink heads as the time draws nigh.  Yep, I always recommend one of the ferries during the summer.  The Sombra/Marine City one is just down river from Port Huron  Shorter lines, more leisurely, and for whatever reason the inspectors tend to be friendlier.

Some of us went up to where the National Meet is going to be this summer. The hotel is right on the water front in the shadow of the Blue Water Bridge to Canada. It was 48 degrees, cloudy, and windy today. It will be a lot better this summer.
