The old turn signals which most of us have are NOT connected to the rotation of the steering wheel, thus they are easy to leave on and . . . .

Question: Has anyone put a light on the dash that flashes with the lights or maybe a 'noise' maker, like a beep, beep, beep?

I have a green LED indicator warning light fitted to my speedo face Paul. It is flush mounted and not so easy to see until the indicator is turned on. I figured that it would be best to have something flashing there to warn me when I forgot to cancel the turn signal.

I think you can get a relay that makes an extra loud clicking sound as it cycles.

I had a beeper that was left over from something from my job a long time ago, but it was still rattling around in my desk drawer. It was rated at 5-30 volts, so I connected it to my flasher and it would beep-beep-beep when the signals were on to remind me to turn them off. It was initially too loud, but a piece of tape over the top made it usable. That lasted a few years, but it failed last spring. I then got a beeping 6v flasher relay from Mac's and I've been using that this year. It also is quite loud and I might try to wrap it with something to muffle it a bit. But it does it's job. There's NO WAY I'm going to leave the blinker on any longer than it needs to be.

Mine does also, but they are not bright and under the steering wheel, so easy to not notice.

MIne is a Signal Stat 900 with a red indicator in the middle of two small green ones. They show, but do not glow;

huh. mine are pretty bright, even in daylight, and the stalk sticks out far enough not to be covered by the wheel. also, both lights blink on the 700, no matter which direction the switch is set for. the indicator light functions to show that the turn signals front and rear are operating. if one light doesn't blink, (for instance, the one that indicates the "front" turn signal), then the rear turn signal isn't operating.

Thanks for posting this. I need to come up with something to use for my truck and like the idea of an audible signal as well as the visual.

I haven't bought a turn signal stalk yet.......so this reminder should help focus my selection.

I am intending to add a second set of amber tail lights in the rear. I would like them to be dual function and use them as running lights and for the turn signals. That way the red Rodtique ones I have would just be for tail lights and brakes. I have just started looking for the fixtures and so far have not found what I am looking for. I am fitting a step bumper and want to move this pair of lights up some on the stake pockets for better visibility. I will make some custom brackets with a period look to help keep this looking appropriate.

When my son was 7, I asked him to help me check the right turn signal on the truck.

I said "Is it working?"

He said "yes,  no,  yes,  no, yes, no......."

Make a recording of that and send it to Paul.

I tried the audio method and it was annoying , I bought a 12v LED from O'Riellys that works fine on my 6v system . Mine is mounted high in my dash above the speedometer but you might not want to drill another hole in your dash . It has saved me from " old mans syndrome " a few times .

Once you let the battery go dead by leaving the blinker on, you'll really start to pay more attention to that little light.  Try to think of it as a senior moment indicator. Use the thought of after I make the turn, I need to turn the signal switch off.  It will help with day to day living.

I generally don't forget to stop signaling after a turn. . . My arm gets tired. :)

On the other hand a lot of people think I'm waving at them and don't realize I'm signaling a turn. :(

Someday I'm going to have to consult with Click'n'Clack about the fact that my car heater seems to become ineffective when I signal turns in winter. :)

Maybe so. In that case I guess I'll just have to figure out on my own why the heater doesn't keep up when I signal a turn. :)
