fedoragent Posted February 20, 2013 Report Posted February 20, 2013 (edited) Folks, Has anyone seen a car with this paint scheme before? http://www.flickr.com/photos/autohistorian/4722642603/in/photostream/ Of course that is an artists rendering from the Plymouth Sales collateral. But I would very much like to see it in photo. It is a Gold Poly and I have always liked this color. I already googled and binged and searched here. I am resarching colors for my car as we are going to have it painted before summer. I want to go with a lighter color due to how hot it gets here in SoCal. Thank you ahead of time. FG. fedoragent Posted February 20, 2013 Author Report Posted February 20, 2013 Apologies for the screenshot but I was browsing from an iPad... Quote
pflaming Posted February 20, 2013 Report Posted February 20, 2013 That is a nice color. Did you notice the red rims? Go for it. Quote
Mark D Posted February 20, 2013 Report Posted February 20, 2013 OT- but love to know what APP you used on the Ipad to create the screen capture? Quote
homebrewer Posted February 20, 2013 Report Posted February 20, 2013 It looks like an artist's rendering of the pea green color of the era. I don't know the official Plymouth name for the color. Quote

BobT-47P15 Posted February 20, 2013 Report Posted February 20, 2013 (edited) Here's one kinda close to the original "pea green" color............. Using the picture for an example, you might find something similar at House of Kolor. Edited February 20, 2013 by BobT-47P15 Quote
fedoragent Posted February 20, 2013 Author Report Posted February 20, 2013 OT- but love to know what APP you used on the Ipad to create the screen capture? Actually, I used the native OS for that. Hold down the iPad key and the power button together and it takes a screenshot. Quote
fedoragent Posted February 20, 2013 Author Report Posted February 20, 2013 That is a nice color. Did you notice the red rims? Go for it. And this is exactly why I have painted my wheels like that. Quote
fedoragent Posted February 20, 2013 Author Report Posted February 20, 2013 (edited) I'd really like to find someone that has done this. I think it could look good. I saw this color on a 60s Mercury once. The color is on the bottom left hand side of the color chart. I believe that I am going to go for it. As you can see Balfour green is totally different. greg g Posted February 20, 2013 Report Posted February 20, 2013 Another aspect of those renderings of the period, the cars always look just a bit exaggerated in length, and look like they have had a subtle roof chop. Gives them a more sleek look than the actual vehicle as well as imparting a sense of movement though the car might be standing still. Quote
Young Ed Posted February 20, 2013 Report Posted February 20, 2013 (edited) I still say that's a artist rendering of balfour green. Green poly wasn't even available for 46-48 so why would they have used it in the ads. Here's my ads showing 2 cars in cruiser maroon. Look at how different the drawing is compared to the color chip. Plymouthy Adams Posted February 20, 2013 Report Posted February 20, 2013 artist take a lot of liberties..if one mimics their car after an artist rendition and pass it off as factory, they are taking many liberties himself...I will contend that the color pictured is very pleasing to the eye... Quote

FG. Thanks I have 6-8 framed ads of either the p15 or WC pickups plus a few dozen unframed ones. Quote

Greenbomb Posted February 21, 2013 Report Posted February 21, 2013 My brother had a '48 a jillion years ago and it appeared to be Army OD Green. It was faded flat-no gloss at all. Is that what happens to Balfour Green over time? FG, the color depicted in the ad appears more green than gold and the color you like on the sample pallette appears more gold with little to no green. The color depicted in the ad is very nice and would look good on your car. Auto Paint (and others) could match that easily for you. Quote
47heaven Posted February 21, 2013 Report Posted February 21, 2013 Jon-This is pretty much dead on to that Balfour Green.http://beta.bringatrailer.com/2010/01/25/bat-exclusive-1947-plymouth-special-deluxe/That's what I wanted to get my car painted at first, but it didn't quite "send me," so to speak. You already know that I went with a Chrysler green from that year called Seacrest Green. I think Dodge even had a similar-looking green, as well. Here is a sample of Chrysler and Dodge's green:Chryslerhttp://blog.hemmings.com/wp-content/uploads//2011/09/1947ChryslerNewYorker_01_700.jpgDodgehttp://www.curbsideclassic.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Dodge.Business.Coupe_.-1947jpg.jpg Quote
P15-D24 Posted February 21, 2013 Report Posted February 21, 2013 Balfour green for sure. I checked the salesman data book and no gold color is listed. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 21, 2013 Report Posted February 21, 2013 Kia and hyundia both have a light green finish that may suit your fancy..it not could well be a base to start from as you try to achieve that special color you are looking for.. Quote
48ply1stcar Posted February 22, 2013 Report Posted February 22, 2013 I picked Ford Kiwi metalic. Pick a new color that you like and that you can match in case you ever need to repaint a section or touch-up your car. Quote
fedoragent Posted February 22, 2013 Author Report Posted February 22, 2013 Plymouthy, lovely now I REALLY don't want a light green. I'm thinking of going another direction now as the green in any shade isn't 'sending me'. Thanks guys for the input, it's totally appreciated. FG. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 22, 2013 Report Posted February 22, 2013 I got the impression that you wanted a goldish tint on a light green...that rendition may be very hard to find a factory application.. Quote
47heaven Posted February 22, 2013 Report Posted February 22, 2013 You might want to go down the "blue" direction on what Plymouth offered in paint colors that year. I think there are about 3-4 shades to choose from. Quote
