49 Dodge Dude Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 Shouldn't that be reported to e-Bay then? Quote

Young Ed Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 And how do we know its fake?? Quote
greg g Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 (edited) At 750 for an opening bid, I believe most of the folks on this forum would probably give that a wide berth regardless of it pedigree. That's a lot of change for some eye candy. While the MoPaR lable decal looks a bit chinzy, the rest of it seems to be in good shape, It seems it would be difficult to fake the included papar work and box. But I would defer to your judgment of what things are worth. Edited November 19, 2011 by greg g Quote
OldDad67 Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 I don't need a Compass at any price, my wife tells me where to go. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 I don't need a Compass at any price, my wife tells me where to go. What he said. Actually, I have a compass -- purchased at an estate sale for $3 or so. It tells the same stuff as the MoPar one. And it's rather like the wife, right most of the time. Quote
Robert Horne Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 My wife said she would buy the $750 Compass for me if she hit the big lotto. I would feel like the luckest guy in the whole world, put the $750 Compass on my Red Rider BB shooter so I would know what direction to point it. Quote

Plymouthy Adams Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 Greg..that explains why I see very few people on the road of life in this area.....these folks live to rip off single women and old folks here.. Quote

deathbound Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 Not saying it's fake, BUT, the "MoPaR" on the compass looks like my 7 year old colored it in or looks altered. Also, aren't the NOS instruction sheets from the 30's-50's usually light brown from age(looks like a new copy & not stated as such)? Either way-hard justify @$750...... Quote
T120 Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 ..I suppose even at today's gas prices, for 750 bucks a person could travel a few miles on the road, even with making the odd wrong turn Quote
greg g Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 Put your hands on the Keyboard and feel the POWER of MOPAR coming through!!! Quote

Don Coatney Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 Who has a picture of the real deal for comparsion? Quote
greg g Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 How about this for a theory? Those compasses were pretty common in the day, and they were sold logo'd for more than Mopar. Kinda like the unity spots and fogs with the logo'd trim piece on the top. I have seen them stamped with MoPaR, Chevy, Ford, and others. So this piece is an unlabled one with a repoped lable either temporarily attached or photomunipulated. So if it doesn't sell as a MoPaR, it can be relisted with a Blue Oval, or a Bowtie, or Pontiacs head. But just because somebody wiggles a worm in my face doesn't mean I'm gonna bite. Apparently there are more than a couple of unscrupulous folks trading on ebay these days, some even selling the same stuff under one or more seller names. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 would fake goods be better know as bads..? do think long back the one person did hawk a decal'ed item for high money..believe the concensus here was it was fake..I do not know..it is not an item I would get even if priced at 30.00..you can get a lot of fuzzy dice for that amount of money... Dodgeb4ya Posted November 21, 2011 Report Posted November 21, 2011 (edited) It's the embossed MoPar ( chiseled out MoPar) and paint job plus the hacky printed box. The original MoPar has raised letters-not cut in. Edited November 21, 2011 by Dodgeb4ya Quote
Mark D Posted November 21, 2011 Report Posted November 21, 2011 This one was on the bay a few weeks ago. Quote
Don Coatney Posted November 21, 2011 Report Posted November 21, 2011 Side by side, you decide. I think East is original and North West is phony. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted November 21, 2011 Report Posted November 21, 2011 The housings of the two items look alike......I say the suspected fake is simply the victim of a crummy repaint of the word Mopar. Quote
