Does your better half support this hobby?

Tim's funny comment on another post got me thinking, that how many wifes (girlfriends, partners) actually are supportive and really like old cars. My gutfeeling is that not so many, but feel free to prove me wrong;)

My wife could perfectly live without a single piece of old iron in our property... Although she has learned to live with the fact that I never will. So not that much negative but she ain't telling me to go to garage either. Ever.

my wife was the one that brought mine out from texas, picked out the color, she has been pushing me to finish the a/c so we can drive it more in the summer and she wanted me to do the overdrive so we go on longer trips in it.

yeah i think she supports my addiction.

I'd say the wife to be is at least understanding. She's helped me work on the car here and there. Here we are on the shore of lake michigan after leaving the Oconomowoc national for a trip to door county WI.

My wife asked me if this could be the year that we finally get the interior done. She wants to go to her friend's wedding in June in the P15. Her father told me that were I not MoPar man, he would not have allowed me to marry his daughter. I'd have to say that she is supportive. She gets a little annoyed when parts arriving via UPS start accumulating in the house, or when I fill her trunk with antifreeze or motor oil from the store, but otherwise supportive.

GrandPaandGrandmother.jpgSure as she knows it keeps we away from the bars and other wild women! Just check out my attachment picture taken 20 years ago of her look when I brought my 42 home on a trailer. No she really is a wonder person and has never had anything nagative to say about my hobby.olddodgefirstday-1.jpgDSC02317.jpg

The love of cars, and drag racing is what ultimatly took our relationship to the next level. While she is a Chevy person, and has her Camaro's, and vettes. She did race a 40 Ford. I am a diehard Ford guy that races a Mustang. We landed up with a Plymouth Street Rod. Non the less, the love of the Automobile, and being around this crowd as diverse as it is, is great. We do agree we have no use for the new Jap stuff. She totaly supports this hobby, and sometimes is the driving force on troubling projects...

My Wife is not crazy about my ride.

When I first brought it home in 2005, I had owned it since 1988, she aaid, oh it will look the same in 5 years, not a chance.

Here is a before and after pic of the cars, and it's changes

Along them same lines with the first wife when I bought my first Porsche..after I got it fixed up very nicely to

European specs she commented on the money I put in the car..it was well less than what I had spent on her "diet" to lose weight..my comment was that I had spent less money, got a flashy red sports car and she is still fat...kinda went downhill from there...best money I ever spent...!!!

New wife..she says..your money..spend it like you want...

She does. Here she is spelling me for a while on the sand blaster. She's gone under my cars to help with seat belt installation and has been under several of my dashes helping with wiring. A truly good woman. I'm a lucky man to have found her.

She even handles this nasty chore sometimes !

My wife is supportive most(?) days.

The car was her great-grandmother's (she bought it in 53/54), she can vaguely remember it coming into town on Sundays for Church in the summer.

It had mostly sat for the 20 years that her dad had it, it was a next(?) year project. When we brought it home after his stroke, we decided next year was now and I went straight to work on getting it running and road worthy. My in-laws came in for a car show and my father-in-law got in the passenger seat. We drove to the show and shine and he was smiling like the the proverbial butcher's dog the whole time. I have almost completed the brake overhaul, we hope to drive it over the summer and then do the interior next winter or the one after.

Kathleen has been my partner through out the restoration of my 52. We consult on everything that goes on with the car. She loves the car shows, loves the cruising. She's been to Detroit with me twice with the car.

She is not only supportive, she has been dirty right there with me.

She would kill me for showing these pics with her hair so messed up. My next step is talking her into taking some "Betty" shots of her and the car,,,;)

My wife is tolerant about my car (the Dodge, at least). She's not a fan of me picking up other cars, though. I'll wear her down eventually. The main thing is lack of space for other cars. My girlfriend and partner are OK with my hobby

Mary Ann generally is in favor of the old car and related stuff.

She goes to some shows, and expresses opinions on things about

the Plym. She is now asking when I'm going to get the interior re-done.

My reply is: when I find some material "we" like. She doesn't really

help with the work, but likes to go for rides around the area on nice

days with the top down.

Here, we won the "Marvelous Mopar" award at a Rt 66 show in Baxter

Springs, KS in July of 2008.

...So I asked my wife - do you support my hobby?..She replied "well I guess...you have enough (bleep) cars" :) .I suppose you could say she tolerates the hobby. And to echo what Don said ,If something happened to me,I'm sure the cars would be gone in short order;)

My wife was great in supporting my automotive efforts. Back in 2005 when I had the devastating fire that ruined the interior of my '67 Plymouth Fury III convertible, it was her encouragement and support that got me to repair it. I was ready to throw in the towel. She was 100%. Before and after pics attached.

My wife asked me what I'd do if she were to die first. I said, "Get a smaller house so I can have more garage space." Don't worry, guys, if your wives will cut us a good price, we'll give your cars good homes. :)

We moved into a new home with a decent 2 car garage last summer. When my usual storage spot fell through for this winter she said to me, "Take the garage for your Dodge and motorcycles, you can have it all. Why should a 1948 sit out in the snow all winter while our new cars get the garage?" :D Very understanding. I make sure I keep the driveway clean and her car swept off and warmed up before she gets in it.
