  1. Good job, sometimes I wish I had more brains and less cojones ... Repairing my truck and life would be easier
  2. Be interesting to know how it works, I suspect it will match very close ... been getting house paint matched at home depot for years and always was fine. I need to do same for my ot daily driver and napa said they would match it for me. They did not say they had a portable gun, I was going to remove the gas door and bring that into them to match.
  3. Let me jump in, If you love it I love it! Everything that was modified can be unmodified ... Will was very contentious about this, and I love seeing the skill level and results. Where Will lives, not so easy to come by a car such as this. Here in the USA, we might find a car in such great shape, And we think we have to save it in original condition. Then we go out and buy same car in poor condition for $500-$1k and do anything we want to it and nobody cares. We saved it from the scrap man. I just do not think Will has the same options or opportunities as we do. He has to use what is available. Lets be honest, if you own a car and it is not what you want ... but you are not allowed to make it what you want ... just a pile of wasted time and money, you may respect it but you wont love it. Personally I would not want the car, not my style ... let someone else save it ... Last car I owned was 36 years ago. When I was 22 and my wife & I dated, we went to dinner and a movie in a Dodge 1 ton dually. Our honeymoon we took the CJ5. Trucks or vans, no cars in my stable I just hope Will wont look to bad on the forum from the dog pile of purist for his choices. I think he made a car he loves and will take care of.
  4. I think you know this already, when you assemble the engine, and install the oil pump, There is a procedure to follow. You need to be TDC when dropping it in. The distributor is ran off the oil pump. On my truck, the oil pump was not installed correct, From past owner. I had to rotate the plug wires to accommodate it. Because I do not know, I would like to toss the idea out there ... Is it possible to install the oil pump so far out of time that it is hard to install distributor correct now? Mine is like one tooth off and had to change my wires one position, what if it was 3 or 5 teeth off, then trying to use distributor adjustment to correct? Just a idea.
  5. Click & Clack, I looked forward to every Sunday morning listen to their radio program ... They may still be around, not heard them in years.
  6. Paul you are over 80 years old .... your dad bought you a car?
  7. All happened one day at a time over decades. Worst was when stopped making steel here in USA ...
  8. You ever consider installing 8ba FLATHEAD FORD V8? Thinking can gain 3 horse power
  9. I also have some decent boots, 90% of my day, I wake up get coffee, then walk out to attached garage and pretend am working on something, then in the afternoon head in and wash dishes and cook dinner. My steel toed leather boots while comfortable, they weigh too much and end of day glad to get them off. Our jeans come from china, I can buy jeans from tractor supply, local builders supply hardware store, walmart or the dollar store ... ALL $9.99 junk. Wash them a few times and they start falling apart. Last year I made a couple pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving dinner, set the pies on a cookie sheet so wont boil over & make a mess, as soon as the cookie sheets get to temp, they warp and twist, spilled the pie mixture all over the bottom of the oven and then burnt while cooking. Smoking out the kitchen. Fill a brand new ice cube tray with water, carry to freezer with 2 hands, use one hand to open the door, the plastic tray breaks in 1/2 under the weight of the water. Just all cheap China garbage, I know none of the above is car related, But it really does effect every part of our lives. I bought and installed a ceiling fan ... it lasted about 6 months. I need to tear it apart and repair it, or replace it. We can complain about car parts, the issue is so much bigger then that.
  10. Not happy with the car parts ... what about shoes? A few years ago you could buy a decent pair of tenny runners, now it is all thin crap that hurt your feet. Buy a cheap scrubber sponge for washing dishes, they use to be 3/4" thick and worked ... now they are 3/8" and crap. Duct tape, that stuff is/was great, today need to go to a plumbing supply store to get it ... all other stores offer crap paper thin. Everything is just getting worse and worse.
  11. @B1B Keven that's pretty cool, first time have seen that option. My 1rst B1C had the deluxe mopar heater with defroster and also the controls as showed above under the dash left of steering wheel. I am not saying I would want that option, fresh air from the engine compartment of a 70 year old vehicle. But it is still pretty interesting it was offered
  12. I had a strange situation once. When I was a finish carpenter, the superintendent was a friend, asked me if I would do a side project for him ... I had a 1 ton flatbed with a tommy lift. He had some stuff stored at a friends house and asked if I would haul it to the dump, keep what I want. He closed a shop years ago and forgot what was there ... just get rid of it. I got there and looked at it, I was actually pissed. I could not believe what was there. There was a house used for a storage building, the living room was piled 3' high with tools. We had a welder, air compressor, every air tool and several copies of each, several victor torch heads & hoses, a few were brand new and never unpackaged. There was no garbage and I would feel wrong keeping it. .... I decided I would choose one item for myself, I chose a old school large Kennedy tool box, was locked, but was something in it and was a mystery. I met the owner over there and he laughed at forgetting what he had, We moved it all to his leased hangar where he parked his airplane. The tool box was filled with mirka sandpaper, I worked for 5 years without buying sandpaper. I thought it was a score. Just wish I was smarter back then, should have called him, and offered $300 for his junk instead of him paying me to haul to dump, we would all feel good.
  13. When I was working, I used Mirka sandpaper. When first training as a finish carpenter, that's what my employer provided. And best I have used to date. Surprisingly harbor freight carried the mirka paper and one of the few items I would buy from there ... I am guessing 3M has different levels of quality. I am stuck buying it from Ace hardware, I thought it sucked and found some better paper at walmart, still garbage though. Couple weeks ago I bought a pack of 3m from Ace, this actually feels like better quality then what I bought in the past, not used it a lot yet for opinion. You can feel the flexibility and quality of the paper backing, more like what mirka is like. Either way, I need to order paper online, buying 5 pieces for $10 just not good, I need quantities of a box of 50 for different grits ... and because I know mirka thats what will stick with.
  14. Seems like some cars had that option. but not on a truck. you are lucky if you have a defroster option. But you do have the cowl vent that brings in fresh air.
  15. I swear cars have personalities. I have to start my 49 dodge and move it tomorrow, to bring in the wife car Lady Belle. 2 weeks ago my off topic truck was giving starter issues, Last Saturday wife drove to New Mexico and made it home Tuesday with zero issues ... now the starter is dead in the driveway. I love this car that she got my wife home, then broke down. I swear it is like children, you buy one a pair of shoes and the other wants a new pair of shoes also. I have some starting and stopping for the 49 dodge in the near future.
  16. yeah maybe you should ... they have a mounting bracket with bolts and holds it where they need to be.
  17. I think you only need the knockouts that match your heater ... they were all a option and installed at the dealer or as aftermarket. So they supplied plenty of knockouts for options. I have never seen someone remove the knockout circled in black for a heater. Possibly a specific heater required that hole? After a few years around these trucks, never seen one removed.
  18. Going to send you a pm, I propose I am a poor test subject. I will pay you what it cost to make and shipping and test it what little I can. I imagine any input would be better then none and the more sources for input the better? I keep my truck in some kind of running driving state so I can move it and work on other vehicles. soon will need to install the radiator and test for leaks make sure the new T-stat keeps correct temp when idle for 2 hours. ... with my doghouse off, is very easy to get to the distributor to work on if needed.
  19. While I complain the loudest, I would be poor test subject. I only start and move my truck in the driveway at this time, you need someone to drive and test them.
  20. I have a airtex model here, 5H1007 measures 1-1/8" long and 5/8" diameter.
  21. I have a issue with jumping spiders ... If one drops down while conversing with the neighbor ... kill it ... kill it ... and I am like, nah it is fine, will talk to it like a pet and send it on it's way. Little spider does a good job helping me control insects in my area. Just seems once a spider figures out you do not want to hurt it ... it tends to get sociable and drop in in front of you to say hello.
  22. Some of us drive old mopars and not smart enough to figure that out Been a big issue for years, if someone could create a way to bypass the issue ... I think we call that the American way.
  23. I think people are ready. In my example above on condensers, I would bet just about all the vendors like dcm, bernbaum etc would add them to their line at a higher cost. Yesterday in the Ford barn the subject came up again, guy went through 5 new condensers to find 1 that worked, he caries a known good spare mounted on the coil ready to be wired if needed and another in the glove box. People would gladly pay for a known quality product. If I ask 10 people I know, I bet 5 or more are sleeping with a my pillow. They are willing to pay a few dollars more for a better product. I love mine and will replace with same when needed. I guess what I really mean here, It depends on what happens in November. We in USA could be on the verge of a new industrial revolution. Just bringing steel manufacturing back to USA, these are billion dollar plants that are going to require heavy maintenance. Equipment will break, they will want local suppliers for parts immediately. Not wait for parts sent from over seas. Bringing pharmaceutical makers back to USA, Kodak of all people ... These companies will have special needs for local supplies. With the changes to bring auto manufacturing back to USA, they will have special needs. Perfect opportunity for some person with ambition. With USA putting tariffs on China, Companies are moving out and going to other places, we complain now about getting poor quality parts, soon we may not be able to even get them. Already supply chain has been affected. 1 year from now we may not be able to buy a condenser from over seas, at any price you would be the cheapest. I think this all effects Canada also, I just feel there is a opportunity opening up for those who might take advantage of it.
  24. Sounds awesome ... I remember a few older cars where it took forever to go from full to 1/2 tank, then the gauge would drop like a rock from there. Love the car. I bought my wife a older 70's Camaro years ago, was a 6 cyl 3 speed floor shift. Father built it for his daughter to drive in high school, was a nice car. I liked it because it was a 6 cyl, I knew the car was not beat on to hard and really was in good shape.
