  1. rear side windows yes. all others. no.
  2. Nice job . 37 to 48 had the same axles 49 was 49 only then 50 to 52 . 53 to 56 same length as 49 to 52 but finer splines .
  3. you certainly have it clean but I greatly fear some sand will have entered at the pinion seal and also, check at the vent's threads.

    Gyromatic

something strange because if the one -two shift works in low range, the same gears are in use for three-four. Maybe Dodge b4ya will know

    S/N on frame

D10C 1766 was the number of the original engine. The other numbers are just part numbers. Separate segments of the frame could be obtained for collision repair. Your car's serial number is on a tag on the right hand A pillar. A body number and trim code can be found on the firewall. (canada)
  6. try Michael Warsaw Vintage American Parts Company
  7. on all Chrysler built flathead sixes the distributor drive fits into a slot. It can go in only 2 ways. The drive gear is on the oil pump. If assembled correctly, #1 wire will be at 7 0'clock on the cap. No matter what brand of plug you get, do not use extended tips.
  8. you can remove the side cover without having to remove the transmission
  9. J 12 Y have extended tips and were used in Chevrolet sixes. A J12 would be the plug used by Plymouth. Your intake valves hammered all the gaps closed the first time you cranked the engine . no gap no spark no start,
  10. some had a felt ring in this area. some didn't;. I just did brakes on a 52 and there was nothing there except the shape of this area had prevented oily residue from leakage around the hub seal from running down the "brake support assembly" and contaminating the linings
  11. sounds to me like a plugged muffler. the vacuum gauge mentioned earlier will reveal that problem with a low reading when you open the throttle. check the tail pipe where it kicks up over the rear axle. sometimes they get bent almost shut if the car has been reversed into something solid.
  12. remove the entire petcock from the block with a 9/16 wrench. Chances are you will have to insert a wire probe to start things moving.
  13. How many modern cars have a mascot over the radiator ? Mercedes ? I have several books on the subject by James R Colwill . One is "The Automotive Mascot Worldwide isbn 978-0-9738866-3-4 Highly recommended. as for the car pictured 37 Chevrolet Coach (2dr sedan)
  14. when I have made this gasket I have not bothered with that hole. The factory gasket has a slot running south from the bearing retainer, I always cut that one since it maybe allows any stray oil to escape.
  15. if the upper shift rail hole is not covered, or surrounded, by a gasket, oil will leak from this area.
  16. Many early AC pumps used the same diaphragm. A kit can be obtained for early Ford V8 s which will yield the necessary parts. I too had the pin problem on my 37 Plymouth and that was on a pump which I bought in 1968.
  17. there should be a gasket between the trans and the bell housing. The trans vents along the input shaft and bearing retainer.
  18. there is an arrow on each of the anchor bolts. you should make a note of where it is pointing as the anchors are eccentric. If this advice is too late, point the arrow toward the cylinder before tightening the anchor. Begin major adjustment by turning the anchor until you get very light shoe contact with the drum at the heel of the shoe (anchor end) Make sure the other cams are at their lowest .
  19. Murray could tell you. I do not think it was over-used and the mileage on the speedometer is correct. I can probably help you with the windshield wiper.
  20. just for the record, Hydramatic was a name given to a transmission mostly used in Oldsmobile. I think Keith is correct in his diagnosis.
  21. sorry for breaking the rules.
  22. In over 50 years of working on these cars I have never run into this problem (yet) The backing plate should be the same for all 10 inch 46 to 54 perhaps you will find one close to home. Rears are the same, fronts are L&R.
  23. I am not far from you (near Victoria BC) Careful when discussing the 218 with a Canuck. In Canada, the 218 was larger physically and used the same bearings as the Chrysler we called engines like yours 217s and I recently disassembled one. It was from a 50. send me a PM if you need a crank and rod .
  24. never mind the snow, or even the sunshine. I will be happy with the dinner and drinks that Worden mentioned !
  25. pull the connecting rod caps and have a look at the shells before you ruin the crankshaft, It is not unheard of for the Babbit material to flake off the bearing. clean the screen while you have it apart.
