  1. Most likely by now the Flower Girl has been married 40 years.
  2. Congrats, you got us by 13 years. Happy for you both.
  3. NAPA had a good reliable pump when I need one although that was about 15 years ago. Bought the other parts I needed for cooling system there as well.
  4. I run the radials in my 52 4 door Cranbrook between 33-35 PSI Good ride, steering easy but secure.
  5. Tell us about it. And most of the time it happens when you really need to get going. To the point that if I don’t have time to talk on a errand I take a modern car.
  6. Don’t know if this is applicable but here it is anyway. I just traded off my 2001 Chevy Astro a couple of weeks ago. There is a very active website for Astro/Safari owners that I have belonged to for years. I did as don’tknowitall did. Wrote a post to thank everyone and say goodbye. Got the same reaction as he did but I decided to keep my account and am relatively happy I did. I find myself stopping by on occasion just cause. So don’tknowitall will decide what he wants to do but once you quit the tendency is to not go back because it’s the past.
  7. If I remember right an industrial engine may have a different cam than a road going engine as the purpose is different. Compression ratio, carb. maybe as well. Plus being a Canadian engine it would be 25 inch block. Also could have been rebuilt to road specs I imagine. Neither good nor bad, just different. Nice car.
  8. I can remember as a very young child riding in the front seat of my Dad's 40 Plymouth when the right side door opened on a right turn. I can remember my Dad grabbing me and hold me close to him till he could stop.
  9. Always liked the looks of the 56 Dodge. I just think they are so classy. Saw a La Femme one time in person with all the accessories. So cool. Then there was the one that appeared stock until the hood was opened and there sat a 426 Hemi. Very nice car you have.
  10. The only place I ever worked at that did split rims had a steel cage that they went into for inflation. Every once in a while you would hear a loud bang and knew one had slipped.
  11. I went with the EMPI as I wanted a new carb. I did see the rebuilds but decided the other was better. Only real aggravation is getting to the adjustment screws. They are either under the back of the carb or behind another part of the carb that blocks access.
  12. The last time I used a retread tire was in 1979 on a Plymouth Arrow pickup. Snow tires on the rear. No trouble in the time I had it but that was then.
  13. https://www.qualitypowerauto.com/item_24/6-Volt-Alternators-Positive-Ground.htm I almost got this but the $40 shipping fee made me think again. I usually drive in the day light and usually on nice days so my generator(rebuilt in 2014) still does OK. With a light load it charges at idle.
  14. If I weren't so stubborn I should have done that but I did not. It is connected and started and had it idling today. Just rough adjustments and already running better than the B&B controlled drip. I have to put insurance on it and go around the block a few times to really see but so far looks good. Going to try to be sure all is OK before reattaching heater tunnel.
  15. To each their own. That said I just put a progressive Two barrel carb on mine so I guess I cannot talk.
  16. I was driving down US41 on my way home this morning when I saw a midsize 4 door sedan pulling over to the median a little ways ahead of me. As I watched I saw something rolling along behind the car that I at first thought was a wheel and tire. As I got closer I realized it was a complete tire tread still in one piece rolling after the car. It rolled past the car and as I drove by I could see that the right rear tire was smaller than the right front. I wished I had had a way to film that as I have never seen that happen before. I have seen retreads separate but never like that. As I drove by a woman was getting out of the drivers side and heading toward the now stopped tread. Strange...
  17. As I read several years ago and I quote” Many people think that they want an old car but what they really want is a 2014 Toyota that looks like an old car”
  18. So with warmer weather I finally began to install the carb and manifold adapter last week. Just about done, most problem was getting the adapter installed onto the manifold. Support bars on the manifold make it very hard to start the nuts without doing contortions that I seem to have a lot of trouble doing anymore. Throttle adapter threaded onto the stock shaft and bolted right up. Had it running briefly until I found a small leak in the fuel line that I have to fix. Had to take the Heater tunnel from the core to the firewall off as to mount the carb .I don't bend that way naturally and also the mixture screw is pointed right at the box as well as the idle speed adjuster. I plan to get everything set and then drive it a little bit before reinstalling the tunnel.
  19. I guess I have gone through the change of life as I used to be an incurable Hot rodder until I hit my mid thirties then the great slowdown began. Now I am the old goat everyone today wants to pass. But being able to enjoy the ride old car or new is just so much more satisfying. Just don't seem to have the inner urge to beat everyone to everywhere.
  20. Wheel bearing?
  21. Ethanol use is also there to provide income for farmers. A political decision that sprang from emission controls original purpose. I wish I could run straight gas but the closest station to me would likely take half a tank to get to.
  22. If you have a laser thermometer you can use it to check to difference in temp from the top of the radiator to the bottom. If not much cooler at the bottom blockage or restriction is likely.
  23. Multiple carbs are cool I guess but give me a good single setup and I will be happy. I used to own several British sports cars with dual SU or Stromberg carbs. Always annoying and it seemed that I was always doing something to them.
  24. You might want to invest in a Unisyn or a similar tool as they make it much easier to set the carbs together. In ancient times we took a piece of vacuum line and just used it to listen to the air going into the carb by holding one end of the hose over the carb intake and putting the other to our ear. Then adjusted until they sounded the same. https://www.amazon.com/Empi-Universal-Carburetor-Synchronizer/dp/B0075AW6CI
  25. Designed to keep going in what we would call a primitive environment. Get you home if at all possible and then some.
