  1. Sniper...you beat me by a millisecond.....?
  2. totally replaceable bushing.....if you do not have the shop manual...it would be worth getting one or maybe get a friend to scan that section...there are special tools for the process...gauges etc....you can get by without these or make your own if you understand first what the objective is.
  3. old cars are an addiction....I needed a fix...what more can you add....
  4. hey Tim, I get where you coming from brother.....I however just cannot feel the 'love' for many model cars and types of build.....just who I am and I am being openly honest... local man says he has 70,000 in his Dodge ratter.....if he would pay for the tetanus shot and give me 2K up front handling fee...I would gladly scrap the vehicle for him...just so not to see that ugly thing again...again, I am too free and honest with my opinion at times.
  5. there is a distinct difference in a rat rod and the 'down on your luck' owner rat rod is designed to look like crap....the down on your luck guy is just happy to have something that will drive but does try to better it as he is able.
  6. IF on the install of the driveline....did you change your rear mounts to new ones.....this will often cause you to shift the position a bit and need to revisit the adjustments.
  7. I watched the video and can see the usefulness of this device and it is cost effective for one to build at home. Thanks for the post......
  8. could very well be that it just came out of the sewer as it escaped Shawshank...
  9. yeah, given the post apocalyptic scenario of that movie I could easily see and IF this was maybe 2050 could well be the Tulsa time capsule relived....
  10. I find it very hard to believe that your comments could be more offensive or obscene than that picture....!!
  11. IF that does not make you want to puke...nothing will......actually, looks like someone already puked on it...
  12. glad to see all turned well in the end...kick back now and enjoy a nice hot cup of coffee, maybe a doughnut...
  13. looks like you have been having fun playing on your lathe a bit...nicely done and fills the niche for an item that is not so common and terribly expense when found.
  14. you will also need the bottoming tap....you will need a bottoming bit...milling bit will work if at hand...with these readily available and you going for a class A look....pulled the trigger on a new item....but there is always that tug toward repairing what you have, fully understand this...more a challenge than a necessity.
  15. unfortunately there is so little material to work with for drilling and tapping and ensure you get a good threaded hole for a stud. I have seen many different repair actions here from a sheet metal screw, clean bore and a machine screw, clear bore, tap, stainless fastener inserted and flush with finished chrome plate, two side tape, and list goes on. Bottom drilled, pin with slit in bottom with taper insert, epoxy and a light tap to set/swage the taper into the pin...(jewelers saw needed here)....this should work if you remember not to gorilla grip the wrench. It is an exercise in patience that often may still not prove a worth piece but a get by till you can locate a replacement.
  16. that is great tool but remember..it will only work after the mushroom is removed and the metal basically restored very close to original..
  17. as the tube should be hollow...split a nut, weld to pliers...heat the threaded section....align the nut on the threads and squeeze and compress the threads....you may need also to put a filler into the hollow section. Possible you can heat and shrink it slowly back into a shape you can chase the thread...another old trick is to also use the half nut and a hammer to bump it back against a piece of brass.......just don't get in a hurry....odds are you can save this shaft.
  18. you got a lot of work ahead of you....at least you discovered what appears to be a complete 2 door......even if in the future you go alternate engine and install AC...save that heater control panel...they beautiful and fully and very easily adapted to that of modern retrofit AC IF you go analog and stay away from digital and or vacuum controllers. Make sure none of them Puukiac tin worms have found their way over to the Dodge....
  19. HERE YA GO.........?should be between the nut insulator and the bottom of the button...
  20. I HEAR YOU SAYING......they can copy an engine but don't know how to drill a hole...
  21. by my reply 46 thru first series 49 are the same...my suspicions on 41 are just that....I did not compare side by side to the 48 I had on hand when I had the 41 leaf springs off....but they look like they would...again, look, did not do a 100% comparison....and as a further note...this statement does not include the Limo or other LWB of the era....as I have never had these in my hands...
  22. Plymouth and Dodge, full sized, (not to be confused with the Plodge) leaf spring will not interchange...you must stay within the three larger sisters for interchange of most chassis components. (Dodge, DeSoto and Chry.) The spring will interchange within the series which for 46-first quarter 49 is the D24. I would suspect the springs are yet the same back to the 41 D19 also.
  23. I think you have me confused with someone else...
  24. original 6v was 30A as per the repair manual...if you go to 12 volts, your amperage draw will be less but if you changing headlights you will need to know the wattage as I could not guess what values you put in here, what other changes you will make for lighting and the wattage related to that....figure total wattage consumption...divide by voltage...not just 12 but your rated voltage during charge which will be closer to 14 volts....then add minimum 20% over that for surge....and you have the fuse you will wish to use...personally I recommend a relay with its own protection fuse inline and keep the current off this older device and extend its use for many many years down the road.
  25. I can tell you a number of folks have complained about services from x regions of the US....I have experienced that myself. I got a Christmas card on the 9th that was mailed on 10 Dec. from this area.....this my friend is insane...!! Some companies are very slow to respond as it is anyway. Customer service has taken a nose dive in the last decade pretty much across all businesses. Not sure when or if it will return a semblance of normal.
