with bolts....one learns the very usefulness of the locating/hanging feature of the pin...it is not at all a hard job to prepare replacement wheels to make use of the pin and keep the feature intact....I advise against 'knocking' them off.

the search engine has changed from the original concept of the forum to the point that it is now to generalized and like google itself, returns too much fluff and not enough meat....quotes + and still return singles of the defined joined parameters...one has to have to almost know the specific thread to begin with to find it....I think we have taken a step backward with search feature.

post a photo...sounds as if there is something wrong with the breaker points or points plate setup in general...maybe a mismatch of a sort.

MO-PAR CITY IS CLOSING ITS DOORS
Plymouthy Adams replied to plymouthcranbrook's topic in Off Topic (OT)
all it takes is some big money to step in and move the lot to his place....it is only lost because no one stepped up....I hate to see this stuff go...but you cannot expect one guy to work forever....he deserves to retire just as the cars in his facility did years ago.....I bet he will not let it go at this time for what he will get for scrap later.....but then when the scrappers arrive...there is no overhead to pull, mark store, package and ship pieces...they kinda get lumped together and shipped bulk. -
these cars failed early and were not what one would call high quality to begin with and thus did not fair well in terms of survivability and thus availability at the wrecking yards made them a good source for snatch these racks...at this point and time I think locating them in the yards is a crap shoot....most of these have been recycled years ago....of the three yards in the area, I have seen but one of these cars cycle through of late and it had the look of being sitting in the field total in-op status for many years....these cars had no real model that was desirable and the Z24 was just a paint package...and the steering rack is placed found on GM cars....it is TRW designed and engineered. (front steer unit were also on Chrysler LHS platform cars)

I thought at first this was going to be an actual "car seat" thread....
-
never have need for a creeper, hate using them...you go to wrenching and you pushing yourself away long before the wrench turns the bolt/nut. I do have a couple of the stools on casters...they I find as handy as back pockets....the seat position does look a bit light in constructions....I could be wrong....

is the vacuum advance cannister the part not allowing for enough rotation.....could you be putting in place 180 out...

it is not the idea of the missing head bolts...I proposed that work around already....yes, I am 100% skeptical on the engine.....it defies too many mechanical principals BASED soled on the pictures shown and the line drawing. I would not say this was not a proposed idea...I just do not think the idea bore fruit of a magnitude that led to a working design much less limited testing production. I believe the head was designed based on the Thunderbolt engine for the intended use on that of flathead but the valve geometry was the fatal flaw. This development however worked better with a cam positioned centerline to the opposed cylinders as compared to the offside flathead 6, thus the success of the hemi V8. I will remain open to any other evidence to support this engine, the valve train however with push rods working offside to a centered position over the cylinder....the angles are just to acute... not here to argue with you but on your statements just a couple posts back you said there was evidence that these hemi head 6's were used in road tests and this was a most likely candidate as it would be a bolt for bolt swap to vehicle in current production...this I would agree with....if this was one of said engines being tested....but still have to wear the D. Thomas cap here...we seems to have lost our entry post numbering system again. I would like to think this engine bore fruit even if it were say nixed by the bean counters....but few bean counters controlled R&D...

if ever a running model I doubt it ever got further than Chrysler's proving grounds.....if and when such test donkeys when released to the public for general testing there is always a few that got away....while they did not breed and proliferate there would be evidence of this engine still in private hands I would suspect. They had some turbine cars get away that was by law destined for destruction on x drop dead date and these were in the neighborhood of 50 examples. Still way too much conflicting data on the internet in assuming this or that...that paper drawing shows a redesigned/machine block....Allpar states only a head mod...the cast head picture of the head bolts show they did not use but the two going into the exhaust port of the block....the cooling passages would have to be sealed...of the remaining 5 non used bolts...sealant is an easy work around on this...I can 'allow' you a prototype pass but not a OTR beast of burden powerplant Chrysler is famous for producing....I do not think if this was such a success Chrysler would not have phased it into production...V8 power in a inline six, continued casting of current blocks with no change in machining, would have set Ford and GM back a decade of R&D to catch up.....forgive me if I just accept a cup of coffee and slice of apple pie from this smorgasbord.

my daughter in Washington State already sent a message in here that it is 6 more weeks of winter and as we all know it is exactly 6 more weeks to spring.....BUT...I say that to say this....Phil was spotted on a surfboard on a beach in Hawaii shooting a curl and what we had was his rat bastard double, a rabid gopher out of Texas standing in for him. I knew that if he did not see his shadow, it was a certainty that he would see his breath.....even here we hit about 29 degree last night low....

line drawing does not an exhaust noise make....? I am not from Missouri but will have to take the Missouri stance on this topic IF this A161 was a success story and GIVEN that Chrysler ran the flathead in production till 1959 in cars...even later in commercial applications and military vehicles....why were there basically zero advances in design and engineering other than compression to allow for the better grade fuels in constant development and basically that tapered to no improvements after the development of the slant 6 the line drawing above and the head pictured that is supposedly the a161 head ...the vertical bored small pushrod holes would not work comparing the two if these supposedly represent the same engine....

if you look at that head you will see the geometry for the valve train would never work based on the location of the lifters. It was the aircraft hemi engine that chrylser was working on that evolved into the hemi for the automobile as I recall the development. I do not recall ever seeing a flathead hemi that was a running model.

is that an alloy hub...if so, odds are it may be Scarebird.....flash that name back to the owner and see if it joggles his memory. -
I agree...nothing wrong with putting a Ford or Chevy up front.....as long as it is mounted to the bumper ahead of my 318 so I can help prevent that little Mopar from pulling wheelies........

Best type of plastic tubing for oil canister lines?
Plymouthy Adams replied to '41 Fat Bottom Girl's topic in P15-D24 Forum
I agree Ed......never seen plastic on these at all, I have an original D19 also....my other D19 has cylinders left and right of the center line so does not apply. -
I use a more modern rear seal also....it sits between the transmission and is part of the retrofit V8..?

from day one of my messing with any engine, the use of Permatex has always been the go-to in all the shops I have ever been associated with. The best seal regardless of your favorite snake oil starts with the mating surfaces cleaned very well and assembled free of coolant weep.

the manual is pretty direct on the statement that 46-52 and the 53 up are NOT interchangeable.

front to rear 1-6 with one at the water pump end of the block double check that compression TDC number one...could be you 180 out...quick lift and rotate of dist. shaft will let you know right quick like.
