  1. Glad that you found the problem . If it happens again , you will know where to look first . In other words , there might be more junk in the tank .
  2. Just make sure that they have grease , that is all .
  3. Just bend those small tabs that are holding the faceplate with a pocket knife and turn it around . Carefully . When you are ready to re-attach the face plate you can bend the tabs back where they should be by pushing against the tabs on a sharp , square corner of a bench . Carefully .
  4. Doug and Rob , The shipping might not be too much on that bell housing . I shipped a differential to the east coast from California and it was very reasonable , ship it USPS using basic shipping . It has been a few years so I don't remember the exact cost but I think it was around $ 50 for that heavy item . USPS has a page on their site where you put in the weight and size and it gives you the shipping cost .
  5. Yes , that is true , If it didn't have an impact wrench , I would hammer on my wrench a couple of blows to get the job done . I don't always go by the book . I try to use what I have with out buying more stuff . Guilty as charged . Does anyone else use a screwdriver to scrape with on occasion ? That is a no-no too . Does anyone use a pipe wrench sideways ? Does anyone use a cheater bar ? I am guilty again . I admit it .
  6. Be aware that if you bring your voltage regulator to a shop for testing / adjustment , they probably will want to test it WITH your generator .
  7. Good job Joe , It is always a pleasure when things work as they should . It makes me want to get out for a drive too .
  8. I will venture to say that there are many of us who would consider it just a number , and we would keep the attorneys out of it . We could also remove the original number on the old block . We would know in our hearts that nothing has been stolen .
  9. Instead of putting the old engine back in the car , can you remove the new number from the new engine and then stamp in the old number ?
  10. After siting all winter are some of the valves stuck open ? You might pull the valve covers for a look , or perhaps it is easier to do a compression check .
  11. I wonder why that Ford flathead V-8 only has three exhaust ports on the drivers side ?
  12. MMO advertises that when added to the oil , it prevents valve sticking and clatter . I don't usually go for ' miracle in a can ' products but I will give this a try . My truck also sits for long periods of time . It sells for $22/ gal. or $6.20/ qt . EDIT ; Walmart has it at $15.87/ gal . I had thought that I was flooding my engine when starting it after a long time sitting , but it makes sense that a valve or two have been hanging up .
  13. Bruce , Good work on searching that one out . I don't need one of these myself , but you might post the vendor contact information for those who need it . Or did I miss it ? Nice job .
  14. If nothing else , you can buy a NOS engine head with the " hump " from Vintage Power Wagons . In their 2011-2012 catalog they are priced at $135 . Their part number for the 230 head w/hump is CC1320139 phone 1-641-472-4665 dodge @vintagepowerwagons.com I bought one of their NOS heads without the hump several years ago and am happy with it . It came packed in cosmoline and I didn't have to have it milled flat .
  15. On that hand brake band that might need adjustment ; when all else fails , bend the band to prevent it from touching . My shop manual calls for removing the band and hitting it with a hammer to get the curve right . I just did one of those and cheated by just prying on the band with a large screwdriver . As I did this I was hoping that I wouldn't crack the lining . My new band touches just a little too , but I think that it will be OK .
  16. It is nice when the infants can communicate even before they can talk . Hungry , drink , more , and so on .
  17. You might contact Classic Tube and ask if others have had this problem .
  18. If you can spare the $ , an extra new pump in the trunk for break downs can come in handy . I have had a few fail , but not since I put an extra one under the seat .
  19. It looks like new ! Perhaps better than new .
  20. I found a castle nut like that at the hardware store . The private junk yard would be a good place to look too .
  21. Wouldn't that hose from a Mazda pickup have metric threads ? I spent half a day going from shop to shop looking where they make hydraulic lines and there wasn't anyplace that could or would make one . I ended up buying one off ebay .
  22. My engine runs at 160 degrees with the new style thermostat .
  23. I lost a hubcap once , then I read about glueing your hub caps on ! Just a few spots of clear silicone around the edge and no more lost caps . I sounds crude but it works .
  24. Yes , the last Plymouth truck was a 1941 . Then they started up again in the 1970's .
  25. From a 1938 Dodge truck shop manual ; Under Engine Temperature , In instances where the service of the truck requires frequent stops such as door to door delivery , it is recommended that the engine be operated at a higher temperature . This may be accomplished by using a thermostat which opens at a higher temperature or by using a partial cover over the radiator grill , in order to reduce condensation in the crankcase sufficiently . And in a prior paragraph it mentions the forward travel of the truck drawing fresh air into the breather pipe and out of the ventilator pipe . It also lists three types of anti freeze , denatured alcohol , methanol , and ethylene glycol .
